I am now an admin!!!

I was and still am very flattered by all the kind comments that I recieved, I will also take into account the comments about how I could improve. I guarantee I will try my best to further assist Wikipedia with the mop. Feel free to drop in and say hi or if you need anything. Again, thank you so much! Yanksox 04:05, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Moody[edit]

Congrats on your RFA, as I only just found out about it. Also congrats on your Birthday, for which I date I have no idea. I'm just a bit moody cause you're gonna be an admin after only a short while, & here I am 3 FA's later & just cause I'm a grumpy editor, I get nothing. You deserve your nomination, but I just don't think I'll become one cause I'm such a grump around here. If I got nominated, there'd be all my history of grumpiness brought up. I don't know why I'm telling you all this. As I said, I guess I'm just a grump. Spawn Man 01:24, 30 July 2006 (UTC). :([reply]

Happy Birthday West Pacific style[edit]

  • Ok, its finally your birthday out on the far fringes of the Pacific. (OK, it has been for a while now, but I've been busy). Therefore, as the sun sets on your birthday, I hope it has been a fun-filled occasion, and I wish you many more such days of joy for the future. Johntex\talk 02:02, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image questions from your RfA[edit]

Hello, I'm checking into some image tags and I have a recommendation:

  • Image:OklahomaCityPolice.jpg I think should be tagged as {{Non-free fair use in}} for the Oklahoma City Police Department article. Photos of 2 dimensional works can be used under fair use. You would want to specify the name of the article and write out the fair use justification on the image page. Also, I think you need to remove it from your gallery or linkimage it there. Fair use images are not allowed in the User space. (I've had to remove several from my own gallery). Johntex\talk 02:32, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm confident that you'll put in the time to brushing up on image policy issues, and frankly I was unhappy about opposing. Please don't be shy about asking for help -- this is supposed to be a collaborative effort, after all, and it would be nice if my time doing image cleanup was useful to other editors. Jkelly 19:10, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Happy late birthday![edit]

Wow, I am late. But it's still July 29 here in California! (And in Oklahoma as I write this, anyway). And so…hmmm, what is there to give you? Snopake gave you gingerbread, a rock, etc., but—I know! I can sure give you a hug! (And many more…) ;) So then, many hugs from Cliff, and more to come tomorrow since tomorrow is my birthday! The one and only Cliff 03:25, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Amazing User Page[edit]

Hey, Happy Birthday! Thanks for all your contributions, really helpful when i want to 'immerse myself in knowledge'. Nice user page too! TheCyrus

Several things[edit]

Hello Phaedrial: First thing, happy birthday! And also, congratulations on your overwhelming support for the post of administrator. While I don't feel quite qualified to participate in it, being away from Wikipedia so long, I wish you good luck in whatever tasks you may encounter in the future with your forthcoming mop.

I had one quick comment about something I spotted on your user page, specifically your list of "Being Indian in the XXI". While I can't comment on the majority of the list, not having experienced or being knowledgeable about most of those matters, I do wish to point out one little theological point. You say:

It is having a Christian missionary tell you it is wrong to believe in more than one Divine Being, then listen to him tell you about God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost, the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, St. Patrick, St. Christopher, St. Francis, etc.

In the Catholic tradition (where the various saints come from), there is only one Divine Being, that being God. Jesus Christ is also said to be the same God, being one of the Three Persons in One Nature. The Virgin Mary is not said to be a Divine Being, but rather a created being, as are the saints and (in fact) the rest of creation. So, if a Christian missionary was speaking of God and the other characters, he would still only be speaking of one Divine Being, and other created beings.

Peace, Bratschetalk 05:31, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Dear Ambuj[edit]

Hi,

Saw your note. I have waiting for a long time to ask these questions in an RfA, and never got any big opportunity. Either there were tense times in the RfA, or there were too few people involved, for the questions to make an impact. Since there wasn't any problem with your RfA, I went ahead. BTW, Question No. 2 was tailer-made for you. I see your talk page is protected. Daniel, is it? Anyways, about the portal, I am personally not happy. The community thinks otherwise, so there's no reason to argue just to make a POINT. It may be because my expectations are higher than that set by the community, but since I am not convinced they are, I am not removing my oppose. Probably it won't matter much and the portal looks all set to get featured. It is all because of your hard work, something undeniable. Best of luck. Regards, — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 14:47, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.: Oh and thank you (again?) for your suggestions as to what I should do on Wikipedia! :)

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for the nice comments. ^^ In all honesty, though, you're probably a far nicer individual around here than myself. I tend to feel that our mission of producing a quality encyclopedia that doesn't sway from its foundations for any reason is the most important thing for us to do here (and, really, that's a huge courtesy to people in and of itself, right?), but that often gets me in trouble with people when we're butting heads over whether or not a certain measure of courtesy (such as spoiler tags) should be included. If I feel like it gets in the way of a policy or something, I'm pretty hardheaded and unyielding, even while I respect the opposing sentiments and would agree with them wholeheartedly were we anywhere else on the internet.

Not that I doubt you'd defend the encyclopedia's purpose strongly, but you just seem really... sweet. XD I don't know, you just come across as a really nice person and I doubt that I'd be counted among that same pedigree when I'm trying to conduct myself as an editor. Strangely, though, I find it easier to respect the compassionate heart who won't give ground even on the basis of encyclopedic principle than I do myself when I strive to ensure recognition of the mission. I kind of find myself saying on a mental level "You know what you're here to do, so keep to it" while on an emotional level I say "I'd like to agree with these guys who are probably hating me right now". You've earned my respect with the kind manner you present yourself in. I know it's caused you to catch some flack from some people who think that affection is icky and offensive, but to hell with them.

I don't want to get too long-winded here, but as I was telling my buddy Tyler when he was suggesting that he maybe nominate me for adminiship, I don't think someone like myself would be suited for it, despite my dedication to the project's principles. I think that someone like he or you, who expresses a lot of patience and overwhelming kindness (for example, he usually takes a neutral route in the kinds of disputes I get in) is better suited. I told him I could agree to follow whatever rules went with the position, but I'd personally not want to show any mercy to vandals. XD That's probably not the best thing.

Being here has kind of made me behave differently from how I normally would. In all other respects of my life, I believe compassion for others is the absolute most important thing. But given that the project here in principle demands that we not always put it first (such as the non-censorship policy), I found myself caught between how I'd normally be and what the project asked for there for a while. I finally accepted that since I wanted the project to be the apex of what it intended itself to be, I'd do whatever it called for, but sometimes I find the decisions I make in that regardd distasteful.

I'm sorry for talking your ear off here (or eyes out, as the case may be), but after you got me to thinking about the subject, it seemed kind of easy to say such things to someone who I think could probably easily understand how discomforting that situation might become. Do you have any advice on the matter? In any event, I do readily and graciously accept the compliment about being sensible. ^^ I hope I am most of the time. Anyway, thanks for reading if you've read this far, and for the cake. I love cake. Ryu Kaze 02:49, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
