Beauty Sleep?

Hi Steve, I'm wondering if you've had your beauty sleep and are ready to share your brilliant insights/reference finds you mentioned in your last message to me? I'm very curious to know what you stumbled across. Thank you. 116.12.246.193 (talk) 06:32, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi, you do know that you weren't logged in when you left that message?
As for 'beauty sleep' - even if I slept for the next 100 years, I t wouldn't help - me and beauty ain't bosom buddies!
Anyway, I have looked at the article, tidied it up a bit, wikified it a bit, found a few citations and added a little bit more information.
I am still concerned that the conference would still not be counted as notable enough for Wikipedia. I had great difficulty finding sources of information which were not on the event's website (so, not an independent source of information) or which were not press releases (i.e. from the company, so again, not independent).
With the references that I found and added, they are all press releases (PR Newswire only do press releases from companies!).
If you are happy with how the article is now (I don't think I'll find any more sources of information), then I can move it to the main article space - let me know. I've done as much as I can at the moment - it would be enough to prevent it being speedily deleted, and if an editor tried to Propose for Deletion, I would object to that. Whether it would survive a Articles for Deletion discussion I don't know.
Let me know if you want me to move it to the main article space. I've also left a message at your registered account in case you remember to log in next time! Regards, -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 08:14, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Hi again. Thank you for the incredibly kind and unexpected support. I like what you've done with the article. Was it also you who flagged the article for improvement? WRT to publishing the article, the next event is coming up soon (November 16-20) and there will almost certainly be international media coverage on the event which we could include. In light of this, I'm tempted to wait for fear that the article will be deleted as is. If we did move to publish it now, and it got deleted, what implications will this have if we try again down the road?? BTW: how does the TalkBack function work? If I want to post something in response to what you've written on my page but flag it on yours, do I manually need to come over and post a talkback message? Tanyavansoest (talk) 09:33, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
I'm not sure who flagged it for improvement - that happened before it was userfied, so it doesn't show on the history. I have removed the "wikify" tag, as the article has been sufficiently wikified to not need that! However, I kept the notability tag, as I feel that more reliably sourced information is needed to prove its notability (as mentioned above).
Personally, I would put the article into the main article space. It is safe from immediate deletion - it could be discussed as an Article for Deletion (AfD), but even if that happened, the worst that could happen is that it is suggested that it be deleted - and we ask for it to be userfied again, and try again in November after the event has received the publicity you think it will.
If it was deleted, there is no reason why it could not be recreated at a future date if additional sources of information could be added from reliable sources. I have a backup on my computer if it's ever needed!
My thinking would be to go for it! If it gets put up for AfD, we'll deal with that as and when. However, it is your choice - but bear in mind that during the event, people may well look on Wikipedia for an article about it! Yes, there is a possibility of deletion. Yes, there is a possiblity of vandalism to the article - but there are plenty of editors who look out for vandalism using various tools (as I do), so I'm not overly worried about that. As a neutral editor, I'm happy to do what I can do, even though I do not know much about this event!
With regard to talkbacks... if you leave a message for an editor on your talk page (so that a conversation can be kept together), you have to manually add a talkback on their talk page. Make a note of the section title (e.g. for this section, the title is Beauty Sleep?) and then add on their talk page the following: {{talkback|your-user-name|section-title}}. The 5 tildes add the date/time stamp. Examples:
  • {{talkback|Phantomsteve|Beauty Sleep?}} gives
Hello, Phantomsteve. You have new messages at Phantomsteve's talk page.
Message added 10:00, 1 October 2009 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
  • {{talkback|Phantomsteve|Beauty Sleep?}} gives
Hello, Phantomsteve. You have new messages at Phantomsteve's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
When you have read the message indicated by the talkback, there are two options
  1. Just remove the talkback tag completely
  2. Change the tag to {{tld|talkback|....}} (e.g. in the above you would change it to {{tld|talkback|Phantomsteve|Beauty Sleep?|ts=~~~~~}}, which would give:
{{talkback|Phantomsteve|Beauty Sleep?}}
The latter is the one I use, so that the talkback is still seen on the page (and the archives), but without the links
Let me know what you want to do with the draft article - as I say, I'd put it onto main space, but it's your choice! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 10:00, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Hi Steve, thank you SO much for all your support and patience in explaining how things work and your position with regard to processes etc. It's very refreshing to have access to good council when first getting started here.
Having taken all your comments into consideration, I would like to take you up on your offer to publish the article. I will continue to keep my eyes open for additional references and be sure to update the article as they come in.
BTW, where does the article in its current "userfied" state sit if it's not on my user account? I don't get the whole "userfication" thing...oh yes, and thanks for the "talkback" explanation. Much appreciated.
I hope you have a great weekend. Oh, yes and could you please send me a quick message when the article goes live and then I will update the image as well which was removed? Thank you!! 116.12.246.193 (talk) 09:24, 2 October 2009 (UTC) Oops!! I was logged out! Tanyavansoest (talk) 09:26, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
I have moved it! see Singapore International Energy Week. It is on my watchlist, so I'll keep an eye on it! As regards "userfication", that just means that it is put in User page (i.e. User:xxxx) rather than in the main article space. When the article is in the main article space, it is no longer userfied. Have a good weekend. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 10:37, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Warnings...

Greetings Phantomsteve. As you left two warning templates over at the user's talk page, warnings which were worded in such a way as to suggest you are an admin., I just popped in here to request you to block User talk:87.36.4.7. Seeing that that is not the case, am now slightly concerned that such strongly worded warnings could be interpreted as "empty" and have the effect of challenging users intent on vandalising articles to seeing how quickly they will get blocked. Am off to request a block elsewhere, but would appreciate feedback on this one. Cheers!--Technopat (talk) 13:22, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

I should point out that I am not admin - the warning left is a standard one. A final warning was given at 11:22, 22 September 2009 (UTC), but then no further disruptive edits occurred in the followign 24 hours, so no further action was taken. When the next disruptive edit was made at 13:24, 1 October 2009 (UTC) (just before your message was left here), the IP was blocked for 1 week by an admin.
In this case, as soon as further disruptive editing was made, a report was made, and a block in force within 16 minutes. However, should no further disruptive edits have been made after the final warning, then there is no reason to block a school IP such as this, as this might affect legitimate editors using the school's computers. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 14:22, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Greetings Phantomsteve - Thanks for your reply. Please don't think I was having a "go" at you - I was just "voicing" my concern and needed some feedback on it. I realise that it's a standard warning (Huggle, if I remember correctly), but it worries me that such a stern warning may be perceived as meaningless by a user intent on continuing to be disruptive/vandalise if not followed up by an actual block, however short.
In the present case, a block was made by an admin at my request, not because the page was being monitored, so that 16-minutes admin response time becomes a meaningless statistic. I've come across several cases of multiple vandal edits being made in a much shorter space of time before being knocked on the head.
Bona fide users wishing to edit from a school or other multiple IP address can get around blocks by registering, so I don't see any real inconvenience in blocking disruptive users after a reasonable number of warnings. The 3R rule springs to mind here - Wikipedia is inflexible on this - and that's blocking registered editors. Cheers! --Technopat (talk) 17:15, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
The problem is that if someone gets their final warning, then unless they go on to do more disruptive editing within the next 24 hours, they'll probably not get blocked. If I see someone on a final warning, then using Huggle, the next one will automatically report it - whether the reviewing admin will block them is up to them. To be honest, I'm not sure what the solution is - vandalism patrol can only do so much! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 10:33, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks and would like to know ...

Just want you to know: 1. I read your last post on my talk page 2. Thanks for inviting questions (in general) from me. You will get questions as time passes. 3. I'm sorry to see you've been vandalized -- what is up with this? 4. Is there a method of communicating that does not require use of Wikipedia talk pages? (They are too slow and threads aren't as easy to follow as in other methods, like email). Kernel.package (talk) 17:22, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

It is possible to use e-mail if the account is set up for it, but I tend not to use it myself for Wikipedia. The confusion caused by having some messages no one talk page, and responses on another is why I tend to keep the discussion on one page! As for vandalism, I've been doing a lot of vandalism patrol, so you come to expect retaliation! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 17:29, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks :) I didn't notice that. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 13:18, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Diamond film

Original section heading: Diamond film can be a Dutch film award or a film made of diamonds, which actaully exists, and perhaps other things.

Perhaps there is a better way to handle the multiple meanings I was just moving Diamond Film to Diamond Film (award). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Geo8rge (talkcontribs) 14:17, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

A film made of diamonds - at the moment, there's no article about that - and if it was to be mentioned anywhere, it would be a minor mention in the Diamond article - at the moment, the only mention there is in the titles of some of the references. At the moment, there is no need for Diamond Film (award) as the current Diamond Film article will suffice. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 14:25, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
I have redirected the Diamond Film (award) article to Diamond Film, If anyone creates an article about the film made of diamonds, then they can sort out what happens, but I don't think there's enough information to make an article about that. I have removed the warning from your talk page, as I misunderstood what you were trying to do, and thought it was vandalism. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 14:30, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Stupid Steve :(

hello sir

i just was editing Princes Risborough to say that i was a notable resident, you can take a look at my web site www.stupidsteve.co.uk and i was the british shin kicking champion, so maybe if im not a notable person from good old risborough maybe i could put myself some where else on the page as there isn't much in princes risborough at the moment, and its a lovely place

cheers

Steve —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smellbridge (talkcontribs) 15:07, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately, unless you can provide evidence that you are notable according to the criteria that Wikipedia uses (and not from your own website, but from reliable, independent, sources), then you cannot be added as a notable resident. As it stands, I do not see that Shin Kicking is notable enough for inclusion (although there is a picture of it on the Cotswold Games article, and a couple of links at the bottom of that article). I'm afraid that at the moment, The Bulldog does not qualify for inclusion! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:15, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Shin Kicking and more

That picture is me, I put it there my mate took it, who also lives in Princes Risborough, if you watch the videos on my site you can see me winning :D I have put a link to the videos on the costwold site too as it says next the the claim that i won that a Citation needed

I got dragged across the english channel as well on an inflateable banana, thats on

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_channel

hehehe but fair enough if thats not worthy then ill just have to do some more stupid things until im allows on the risborough site

cheers

To find out what would make you notable enough to warrant an entry on Wikipedia, rad Wikipedia's general guidelines on notability and Wikipedia's guidelines for the notability of people. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:32, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

question

Thanks for your response to my question. You are correct on the user name, I used it because I didn't want my name to appear in the title of the article. I will change it, but wonder how the pages Department of Energy, FEMA, TEEX, and others have as a user name as they are partners with us. Does the user name appear with the title of the articule? NNSA CTOS (talk) 15:27, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

The user name does not appear on the title of the article. However, editors may feel that you have a conflict of interest going by your user name. All edits are shown on the history of the article (if you click on the history tag you will see this), so although your user name doesn't show on the title of the article, it will show in the history. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:59, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your input. There isn't any copyright infringement since I work for the Department of Energy and the agency supporting the article. I will work on rewriting the article, I was really following the same content flow as others I have seen on Wikipedia which we are partners with for training first responders. 192.100.51.131 (talk) 15:36, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

I'm assuming that you are connected with the user above (did you accidently log out?) I didn't raise the point of copyright, someone else on the Help Desk raised that point. As they said, as the text is lifted from this website, and the disclaimer page clearly shows that the CTOS NNSA website is directly connected to the Dept of Energy, so there would probably be no copyright problems - the fact that you work for them is neither here nor there!
Just in case you are not the same user as that above, I am leaving you a welcome message on your talk page with some useful links - I would suggest that you read them, as they'll give guidance on what is and is not acceptable on a Wikipedia entry. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:59, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Tech draw tools

Hello, and thanks for a warm receive.

I'm going to translate the whole article (if no-one else happens to step in to help), and I'm willing to translate the possible image captions from Finnish, too. I'm not any expert on the exact subject of this article, but using my common knowledge. The final English text needs naturally to be checked by someone (also the comments in.. hmm, "code"!), but I hope my contribution is worth of smth.

I could master English much better, but I'm confident that some native speaker (you?) is able to make it to a nice article :-).

Nice autumn from Finland --J. Sketter (talk) 18:51, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the work you are doing! It's on the list of articles for further translation work, so hopefully others will look at it too! I think your use of comments on the article was useful! I'm going to look at the images on the Finnish Wikipedia, and see which ones can be put on this one (I've got to check out copyrights etc). Regards, -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 20:15, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
I checked and found that all the images were on Commons, so can be used directly! I have now added them to the article. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 21:10, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
Very good. I think that I've done all I can for the article now. There are notes if someone is really interested in those few uncertain terms. You could consider replacing the template with some "clean-up | language" -type one.

How do I create my page in the main content and not on a subpage. I rewrote the pager per your previous email, but now am unsure where to put it. NNSA CTOS (talk) 19:12, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

It needs to be 'moved' - but as you are not yet autoconfirmed you cannot do it at the moment. I have taken this as a request to move it, so have done so. Julius Zimmerman

Hi there. Thanks for the input regarding the User:Matt Deres/Zimmerman article. I had planned on doing some deep searches for good sources, but just haven't had the time due to that pesky real-life thing intruding on valuable wiki-time. Although it's userfied and in some vague sense more "mine" than a normal article, please feel free to work on it should you have the time/inclination. Porn-related topics are difficult to write about on WP; on the one hand, it seems easy enough for a porn starlet to meet the notability criteria (it's not like the movies take a long time to produce ;-), yet it's hard to write proper articles for stuff that you "know" to be important based on experience. Should Mr Zimmerman's article ever make it back into the fold, maybe I'll try "Meriday in the Morning" next; easily the most famous, most widely disseminated, ASCII porn ever made, but there's not a lot to say about it in a referenced article. Anyway, thanks for the note and the help! Matt Deres (talk) 00:44, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

  • If you can find a reliable source of information confirming the fact, then feel free to re-add it. However, when I did a quick search I didn't find anything to confirm it. As a rule, on biographical articles such as this, unsourced information is removed until reliable sources can be found, even for minor items like this. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 17:09, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism to Hinder wiki

I was dropping by the Hinder wiki to check some things only to find it's been vandalized by some apparently zealous Cannibal Corpse fans. Not sure who the admin is for this page, but noticed you'd had several posts in its history, and thought you might be someone to notify.

W1LDC4l2D (talk) 15:00, 15 October 2009 (UTC)W1LDC4l2D

Pages don't have admins responsible for them - admins watch over any pages they come across or subjects that they are interested in! In the same way, many non-admins revert vandalism, as they patrol pages looking for vandalism. My only contribution to the Hinder article was to revert two instances of vandalism, using a tool called Huggle which makes this easier. I see that the vandalism which has recently occurred has been reverted. Looking at the history of the article, it is not of a sufficiently high level to mean that the page needs to be protected. Most vandalism on Wikipedia gets caught - some within seconds, some within hours, some within days - I've come across some subtle vandalism which has taken weeks to discover - but most gets caught reasonably quickly.
Incidently, it's not the Hinder wiki - it's the Hinder article, on the English Wikipedia. A wiki is any website that uses Wiki software, of which Wikipedia is an example.
As Wikipedia is the encyclopedia that anyone can edit, you can edit the article yourself to remove any incorrect information or vandalism. Please note that the two are not the same! Also, note that if a piece of information in an article has a source which is reliable which the source confirms, it should not be removed. If the information is not sourced and is incorrect, it can be removed. If the information is sourced, but the source does not verify the information (I've seen that happen), then it can be removed.
Two bits of advice though:
  1. Before adding/removing anything major or potentially controversial, check the article's Talk Page - there may be mention there about it. Also, if you are going to do a major change, it is polite to leave a message on the talk page and let the regular editors of the article know what you plan on doing - and give them time to respond!
  2. If there is persistent vandalism by the same editor (you can see who has edited by clicking on the History tab), this can be reported at WP:AIV.
Hope this helps! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 16:28, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

MFDs

I've contacted the closing admins and movers of the AFDs in question (or those who are still active). It's actually common for AFDs to be deleted if they are about BLPs since the AFD's often contain negative comments which might be damaging or hurtful in real life. Usually they are simply deleted by a senior admin as a courtesy deletion. Senatrix (talk) 17:23, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your comment, and for contacting the relevant editors/admins. I disagree on two on them that there are BLP concerns (the fact that people say that a living person is not notable enough for inclusion is not a BLP concern - it is not saying that the person is not notable, just not notable by the criteria used by Wikipedia). The other one has more potential to have BLP issues: I'll read it more carefully before making my !vote on the AfD (when I will also cast my !vote on the other two, after re-reading those AfDs as well). Incidently, did you used to edit under another name before you started using Senatrix? I've not often seen editors with 43 days experience starting MfDs, let alone ones that concern AfDs which are 2 and 4 years old! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 17:57, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shane Ruttle Martinez

I think you're mistaken; the history shows no further edits after I closed it. Steve Smith (talk) 12:08, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

The blanking was to the AfD the MfD was about - see this diff. The discussion didn't say that it should be blanked, and the blanking was done as a 'favour' - I believe that as the MfD didn't agree to blank the AfD, it should be reverted to the version before the blanking. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:30, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

i think you made a mistake: never been on the article for collective nouns of birds. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.129.151.136 (talk) 12:56, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

You personally may not have edited the List of collective nouns for birds page, but someone on the IP you are currently using (which is a BT Broadband IP) did at 12:03, 22 September 2009 (UTC). As the IP you are using is one of the ones that BT Broadband assign to any of their users, someone else using BT Broadband was obviously using it at the time. To prevent future occurences, I would suggest that you create an account, which has a number of benefits, one of which is that your user name is associated with any edits you make, rather than the IP, preventing such confusion!
The edit in question is the only edit made using that IP (other than the message you left above) - unless any other contributions were deleted, which would not show on the user contributions for 86.129.151.136 list.
Sorry for any confusion this may have caused -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:21, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello Phantomsteve,

Hope you are doing well. We have been contributing to wikipedia with reliable information for the past year. Nia Lyte is a new internet TV Talk Show host and one of the top web talk show hosts. How ever per her request she will like to delete her name from Wikipedia inmediately for two reasons:

1. The fact to question in public that her information is not true or false is an embarassement for her fan web site of 500,000 viewers. She does not have press agents at this time so everything is in the internet. She has a career as a host and the information published about her is true you can see this in her show. Live Video or Live Universe is owned by Brad Greenspan here s the proof for this, perhaps the team in Wikepedia did not do the proper research on internet hosts. She is the co-Founder of Shin Koyamada Foundation is in the official web site and she helps a lot of children around the world and raises money for different causes. How ever this deletion process and questioning of Nia's information can potentially damage her image and causes. For this reason we as to please delete ASAP this page and article of deletion until we have more press on her, magazine interviews. Maybe was too soon to add her to Wikepedia. But she is indeed a respectable and amazing human being and web talk show host.

Here are some links and articles for you to see that Live Universe/Live Video is founded and CEO by Brad Greenspan: http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/02/02/was-anyone-still-in-doubt-over-liveuniverses-demise/ http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2009/02/liveuniverse-an.html

Here is the link to her internet show wee it says comments from her fans and you can see the proof there is over 500,000 audience in this internet show. http://www.livevideo.com/liveshow/InternationalBeauty

You can also see in the home page she is always in the top 5 web shows every day.

2. It is very damaging to imply she did not tell the truth about her education as she did intern in the US Congress and published her first book at age 19. How ever all the press for this is in newspaper articles collected as proof.

So please understand why we will like to delete this page and she wants it delete it right away. People and fans google her name and then in wikepedia it appears is not true what she is saying when it is true. Also accusing of vandalism is a mayor offense knowing that all that we publish is correct if you see the track record.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Shinca (talkcontribs) 18:09, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. The Nia Lyte is currently being discussed for possible deletion (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nia Lyte, where you are welcome to make a comment for keeping/deletion). However, removing the AfD information is counted as an act of vandalism, hence my warning on your talk page.
A couple of specific comments about what you wrote above:
  1. No one is saying that the information is false - merely that there is no veriable sources confirming the information given - the citations given in the article at the moment do not verify the information. Wikipedia requires verifiable information from reliable sources, which at the moment has not been given.
  2. LiveVideo may have been founded by Greenspan, but my understanding of it is that anyone can upload videos to it - so this would no more make Nia notable than if she was on YouTube. Also, when I looked at the home page, she's not listed in the top 5's I could see there - she's not on the first page of the most view "Today", "This Week", "This Month" or "All Time". The [5] link you gave above shows that she has 1797 subscribers; the 8 videos she has have a total of 422 views between them.
  3. I can't see where it says anything to do with It is very damaging to imply she did not tell the truth about her education as she did intern in the US Congress and published her first book at age 19. - the article doesn't appear to say that she has lied about her education or internship - again, the references given in the article 'do not mention lyte - or there is a very minor mention - that is why there is a note that the information is not in the citation given.
Please note that a citation needed note does not mean that the information is false (or believed to be false) - merely that we need some kind of evidence from a reliable source.

Nia Lyte/Wikipedia

Hello Phantomsteve,

Hope you are doing Well. I am contacting you regarding Wikipedia/Nia Lyte. Our company has been adding constructive material and articles to Wikipedia with verifiable information for the past year like for example Shin Koyamada, Paul Heller you can verify this. I am a new internet host with a show over 500,000 viewers and co-founder of the Shin Koyamada Foundation. The team decided to add me to Wikipedia but I will like to be removed ASAP for 2 reasons:

To imply in public in front of my fans, business clients that my information is not true is not right and is not good for my career or image. The information is true but there is not enough press on me or press releases. But you can see that have a show with over half a million viewers and also that Live Universe is indeed founded and CEO Brad Greenspan: you can also see I am the Co-Founder of The Shin Koyamada Foundation and I am a top internet host. All these was in question in public and my fans and business clients started to ask me what was happening.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2009/02/liveuniverse-an.html

http://www.livevideo.com/liveshow/InternationalBeauty Www.nialyte.com <http://Www.nialyte.com>

To verify this you can go to the most viewed shows under entertainment, you saw the most viewed shows under people, they have different categories you need to click entertainment and you see my show there. To verify the views of my live show not videos as you saw you can go to my liveshow page and see under the archives there is 519,268 viewers so far. I was hired by Live Video to host a professional talk show to launch the web site how ever yes anyone can create shows or videos there but not everyone is a feature show and my show is. Perhaps we should wait to be in Wikipedia once there is more press releases and my TV Talk Show goes on air.

www.shinca.net

2. I deal in our company Shinca Productions in partnership with Paul Heller ( Producer of Enter the Dragon) & movie star Shin Koyamada ( The Last Samurai) also verifiable with high profile actors and business men. Also we do a lot of events with children and helping them through our foundation so to have this in wikipedia is unacceptable. Yes I did intern for the US Congress and yes I donate 15,000 books we have all this documented on news papers clips but again there is not enough press or reliable sources like you mentioned. And no is not vandalism either so please remove this from Wikipedia as is not right. I am a respectable career woman and negative comments or press can hinder my career and enterprises as well as those of my business partners. Perhaps was too soon to add me to Wikipedia.

http://koyamada.org/en/who/staff.html

I am sure you may have had people who did altered the truth but not our team so I think your team made a mistake on this one and that is ok. We will wait until there is more press releases and more fame in order to be in Wikipedia. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or my lawyers. I will like my name deleted from Wikipedia and any banners that this article is considered for deletion for truth misconception by Monday please. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Nia Lyte President Shinca Corporation Email: <email address removed> www.shinca.net <http://www.shinca.net> —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shinca (talkcontribs) 18:51, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

No one is saying that the information is false - merely that there is no verification of the information, and indeed that the citations given do not show what the article says.
I would suggest that you read the links here: Verifiability and Reliable Sources. They show how the information in the article can have citations added that would be useful.
The tag [not in citation given] means precisely that: the reference given for the sentence/paragraph does not mention the information. It does not say [untrue].
The AfD "banner" makes no mention of the reason why it is being considered for deletion, but the AfD itself clearly states "Non-notable per WP:BIO, unreliable references per WP:RS which only mention subject in passing, can find nothing notable about subject in news search." as the reason for its nomination. Let me explain those:
  1. "Non-notable per WP:BIO" means that using the criteria used on Wikipedia (at WP:BIO), Nia Lyte is not notable enough for inclusion
  2. "unreliable references per WP:RS which only mention subject in passing" means that the references given do not confirm the information, or if they do mention the subject (i.e. Nia Lyte), it is a minor mention
  3. "can find nothing notable about subject in news search" means that searches of News organisation websites (including, but not necessarily limited to, Google News Search) had no significant mentions of Nia Lyte.
Nowhere has anyone said that the information given is false, merely that the links given do not verify the information (or even mention Nia Lyte).
Regarding I will like my name deleted from Wikipedia and any banners that this article is considered for deletion for truth misconception by Monday please. - as nowhere mentions deletion for 'truth misconception' (as no one has said the information is untrue, merely not verified) you have misunderstood. The AfD will remain open for 7 days - so will be closed at or after Saturday 20th October 10:39 (UTC). If the concensus is to delete, then the article will be deleted. If the concensus is to keep, it will be kept. Personally, I would say to delete it, not because you want it deleted, but going by the criteria used on Wikipedia, you are not notable enough for inclusion.
I will not be contacting you with further questions (I have spent some time here explaining the situation), and in any event neither myself not anyone else will contact your lawyers. I assume that you are not making a legal threat. I'm not an expert in law, but I think any decent lawyer would point out that saying that a citation does not verify information does not mean the same as the information being false. I would point out that WP:No legal threats states If you make legal threats or take legal action over a Wikipedia dispute, you may be blocked from editing so that the matter is not exacerbated through other channels. Users who make legal threats will typically be blocked from editing while legal threats are outstanding.. Should such a threat be made, I would need to report it - but as I say, I do not feel that the above message constitutes such a threat.
I am sorry that you have misunderstood what is happening. Be reassured, no one is saying that any of the information is untrue, merely that it has not been verified using a reliable source from an independent, third-party source - and that the references given do not actually back up the information. Again, this is not the same as saying the information is false.
As far as I am concerned, that is the end of the matter. If you have any questions on other subjects, feel free to ask me! (Incidently, may I also suggest that you read Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest Guidelines.) -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 19:17, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Uploading a logo to Wikipedia

I noticed that you answered a question regarding uploading a logo. I have searched all of the help files and cannot figure out how to upload a logo for my company. All I could find was that you have to be autoconfirmed to upload images but it didn't say how to become autoconfirmed either. Could you please tell me how to become autoconfirmed or how to upload the image to Wikipedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tgoforth (talkcontribs) 14:30, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

To be Autoconfirmed, your account has to have existed for more than 4 days (which yours has) and have at least 10 edits (which yours does not - it only has 3).
To upload an image to Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Uploading_images - but make sure that before you do any uploading, read the image use policy. It might also be useful to read Wikipedia:Logos as well. Logos fall under fair use - which means that they can be uploaded to Wikipedia, but not to Wikimedia Commons. The exception to this would be if your company specifically states on the website that the logo may be freely copied and used for any purpose whatsoever. Images on Wikipedia fall under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 and [[6]] licenses.
I hope this helps, but if you have further questions, feel free to contact me again. I may not be able to answer quickly at the moment - I'm in the middle of some family history research, and next week I'm away on holiday - but I will try to check my talk page several times a day this week, and hopefully from time to time next week. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:02, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Template parameters

Resolved

Hi,

Can you give mea example of how to set upa simple if statement for template and hwo to get teh parameters into the tmeplate and how to pass the ifnormation form the article to the template?--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 17:06, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

If you look at User:Phantomsteve/test-bed-template, I have set up a simple template which uses up to 3 named parameters (called first, second and third - simple names!)
To use it, I just use {{User:Phantomsteve/test-bed-template}} with parameters:
  • {{User:Phantomsteve/test-bed-template}} - no params given:

User:Phantomsteve/test-bed-template

  • {{User:Phantomsteve/test-bed-template|first=This is my template}} - first param only:

User:Phantomsteve/test-bed-template

  • {{User:Phantomsteve/test-bed-template|first=Once upon a time|second=there lived|third=a Wikipedia editor.}} - all three:

User:Phantomsteve/test-bed-template

  • {{User:Phantomsteve/test-bed-template|first=I wonder where the next param is?|third=Oh, here it is!}} - first and third only:

User:Phantomsteve/test-bed-template

  • {{User:Phantomsteve/test-bed-template|test=This param shouldn't show}} - using a param that isn't in the template:

User:Phantomsteve/test-bed-template

And that's it really! Without knowing exactly what is to be done, I can't do any more - but the code on my template shows how to create if statements to only show something if a parameter is present. Hope this helps -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 17:53, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
this should be enough for me ot get on with and hopefully workthe rest out. thanks for your help if i get stuck i will paste teh code itself--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 18:48, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

I'll be honest - it's late, I'm tired, and I'm going offline soon. However, the first=1 in the template doesn't look right! Have a look at the templates Template:Ifequal, Template:ifeqall, Template:ifeqany or Template:ifor. I'm not sure if any of those are useful, but they might be. If I get a chance to, I'll look at your code tomorrow. Sorry I can't be of more help -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 22:30, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

About your reply to me on the help page :

Thanks for your interest and reply (21th of oct.) on the help page. Since you will be away for a week, I will prefer to talk on this page. You state that you incline to agree with Tajik’s reasoning to revert my name edits , assuming that there is no reliable source. I assure you that there is no source problem. The problem is that Tajik seems to wrap all medieval Middle East cultural history into Persian history. While a great deal had been contributed by Persians, the Middle East history is not solely a Persian history. Although, he has reverted a number of my edits, the following are especially important. (as they appear in Wiki) : Mahmud al-Kashgari and Ali-Shir_Nava’i. You can check those articles. Taking the risk of being rather boring, I’ll summerize why these names should also be shown in Turkish.

Mahmud al-Kashgari, (Turkish: Kaşgarlı Mahmut) He was a Turk and was writing in Turkish. In 11th century he wrote the first Turkish Arabic dictionary claiming Turkish to be as powerful of Arabic.

Ali-Shir Nava'i: (Turkish: Ali Şir Nevai) He was a Turkish poet of 15th century and was writing mostly in Turkish. (But he was living in Afganistan) Barry Hoberman calls him Caucer of the Turks.[1] He is studied in Turkey in secondary schools as one of the forerunners of Turkish literature.

I don’t try to change the names of the articles. I only want to add the Turkish names in parentesis by the template (Turkish: ...) I have the right to do so. But Tajik always reverts the editions an act which I feel is nothing but a loss of energy both for me and Tajik himself. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 12:27, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

You've caught me just before I go offline! If there are sources available for the alternative spellings of the names, then you need to cite them (I'll leave a reference about how to do this on your talk page). Incidently, the issue isn't whether these individuals are notable enough for inclusion in Wikipedia - the issue is that you have added information without sources! I know nothing about this area, so I am unable to help out - but if sources are indeed available to show the alternative naming, then if these are cited there should be no problem with the information being added to the article. Regards, -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 12:50, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for changing the speedy delete tag on Year Two Dunman High Inter Class 2009; I wasn't aware of the db-club tag. Pdcook (talk) 14:12, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

You're very welcome! {{db-club}} is one of the A7 - No indication of importance (individuals, animals, organisations, web content) categories, which I felt was more appropriate in this case. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 14:14, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for working with me on LinkedNow

Phantomsteve,

I really appreciate your feedback on LinkedNow's article :) The irony is that I sincerely understand your motivation and enjoy working with energetic and passionate editors like yourself. Please also understand my frustration. One editor said that it maybe ok to keep the article 3 months ago, and now this issue is re-opened, again. What makes it worse is that I strongly feel that the article 'somewhat' meets the definition of notability.

Yet, our argument seems to span around these three issues: a) how recent is the news, b) how many unique sources, or c) how useful the site's business is. All, except 2 points seem to be irrelevant to the discussion of the notability. In fact, wikipedia does not discuss a + b anywhwere. However, it provides us with some general guidance for (c). Multiple as if "having or involving or consisting of more than one entity or individual"

Once again, Phantomsteve, thank you for your help and I am looking forward to working with you again :)

Cheers, Suzan —Preceding unsigned comment added by Suzan.nguyen (talkcontribs) 21:49, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Template again

Hello,

I have had to modify the template to a ifequal statement, similar to the episodelist subliust workings. however i think because it has a table in it with {| it is causing confussing to the if statement, if there anyway to get it to disregard the code and treat it like characters?

thanks for yours help :)--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 21:58, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
