This is for my college class in Evolution. It is an assignment for class, that is all. Please be nice about that.

Hi Phoebe, I'm sorry for the trouble, but the article as you have written it is not suitable for publication in Wikipedia. We are a functional encyclopedia first (one that is read by millions of people every day), and a component of course instruction way farther down the line. In a choice between not having unsuitable material live in mainspace, and enabling easy marking of student projects, the former always has priority.

The main problems with your material, as noted in the deletion discussion, are -

a) It's in essay style: you are making an argument ("it's an example of evolution") rather than just summarizing facts. Our articles don't do that.

b) Even apart from the style, the content has very little to do with Netsepoye hawesi, but rather is about its wider relatives, and even about extinction events in general. All this is already covered well in existing articles, and to reiterate it is superfluous. We deal with recaps of existing information by wikilinking to it, with a short summary if necessary. I'm afraid if one did that with your text, there would hardly be anything left of the article!

c) As a distant third, an article about Netsepoye hawesi already exists, and new material should be integrated into that rather than put into a new, duplicative article.

These are the points that are being evaluated at the deletion discussion. Note that even if the article ends up deleted, your teacher should be able to see in the page histories what you have written and what other students have said about it, so they can still assess and mark it. Phoebe, as you know, the consensus at the discussion about the article you created was that it was not suitable for Wikipedia, and should be deleted. Edgar181 emailed you a copy of it so that you could submit it for your class assignment, not so that you could post it back to Wikipedia; if he had thought that it was suitable to be restored as a user-space page then he would have restored it as a user-space page, not left it deleted and emailed a copy to you. Wikipedia policy is that when a page has been deleted as a result of consensus at a deletion discussion it must not be restored to any Wikipedia page, unless there have been significant changes in the circumstances which led to the deletion, which in this case is not so. Wikipedia user-space is not a place for storing material for use outside Wikipedia, including storing content which is being used for class assignments but is not considered suitable for the encyclopaedia. You seem not to have grasped an important point here about the nature of Wikipedia, so I will make one more attempt at clarifying it for you. I hope this helps. When you post anything to Wikipedia any other editor can comment on it or edit it. That is how Wikipedia works. If you are not willing for your work to be treated like that then you should not post it to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a project to build an encyclopaedia; it is not a web host to provide storage for material for other purposes. No content is privately owned by the person who posted it, and that person does not have the right to exclude the content from comment or editing by other editors. Progression of Netsepoye moved to draftspace[edit]

Phoebemcgowin, I'm very sorry, but this still isn't usable as an article. You have sorted out the essay format, but not the content. The problem is still that 90% of the material is only tangentially related to Netsepoye and already covered in existing articles - e.g., Chimaera, Evolution of fish, and Late Devonian Extinction. There is no need for and no benefit in repeating all this stuff in an article that is meant to provide material particular to one species. And the statement that Netsepoye and other species are the products of evolutionary processes is a basic fact that also does not need to be demonstrated for this species in particular. Realize that the exact same argument, with the same types of sources, could be made for any random animal you choose - and thus it needs to be made for none.

As I said before, you have material here for a fine university essay, but not for a Wikipedia article. Not all material is suitable for both purposes. What you have here just won't easily make the transition. Unless you manage to uncover a good deal more on Netsepoye in particular (e.g., what hypotheses have been made about its lifestyle and ecology? Can the anatomy be described in some detail? Is there some information about its specific ecosystem, i.e. what other species it may have interacted with?) rather than on these very broad topics, then I don't think this angle is going to yield an article.

I have moved the material to draft space, where articles under construction should be located. If you decide that you have enough Netsepoye-specific material to go give it another go, please do add that to the existing article Netsepoye rather than starting a separate one. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 20:32, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am perfectly willing to believe that at first you acted in good faith, unaware of Wikipedia's policies, but you have repeatedly re-created the deleted page after the situation has been explained to you.
