Marian and Holy Trinity columns[edit]

Hello Chris, I am sorry to have erased the sentence about the column topped with a Virgin Mary dating back to the 10th century in Clermont-Ferrand, I should have talked about it before. But as mentioned right above, encyclopedic content must be verifiable. I cannot see any source for this statement. I have searched the list of religious monuments in Clermont-Ferrand and couldn't find any column with the Virgin Mary. But in the french wikipedia, in a subject about the cathedral of Clermont-Ferrand (paragraph statue de la Vierge) there is a sentence about a statue of the Vierge Marie en Majesté (Maestà) "C’est au Xe siècle à Clermont qu’apparut la toute première statue d’une vierge en majesté." translated as : The very first Maestà appeared in Clermont in the 10th century. that statue was to decorate the altar of the cathedral. It was destroyed during the french Revolution. I thought that Maestà was mistaken for a Marian columm.

I can't prove that there was no Marian column in Clermont-Ferrand in the 10th century, even if in France there are not many such things. I have only found a plague column in Marseilles, built after the plague outburst in 1720.

But can you prove there is or was one in Clermont- Ferrand ? best regards --Pimprenel (talk) 19:06, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am totally fine with you removing unsourced content. (Most of that article is unsourced and probably ought to be deleted.) My issue is that your edit summary said in part: "big mistake, the 10th century statue of The Virgin Mary in Clermont Ferrand was meant to sit on the altar of the church" asserting you know better. If you're making a positive assertion you need to provide a reliable source. I'd also remind you of WP:CIRCULAR, you can't use other Wikipedia articles as sources. Removing unsourced content only requires you provide an edit summary explaining such. Chris Troutman (talk) 19:18, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
