Help

A system filter won't let me archive the thread saying alert. Can you please help me out. Pkbwcgs (talk) 18:10, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

For all I can tell, the filter merely warns, it doesn't prohibit the edit (and if I understand the situation correctly, you're warned about adding the discretionary sanction alert to your archive, not about removing it from the user talk page). If you use some automated archiving tool that cannot deal with the edit filter's warning correctly, you may have to archive that thread manually. Huon (talk) 18:28, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Done I ignored the warning and just archived it. Seems to be a warning about duplicating the same discretionary sanction alert to the same user. Pkbwcgs (talk) 18:50, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
@Huon: However, it does tag the edit as 'discretionary sanctions alert' when I archived it at Special:Diff/823999048. Pkbwcgs (talk) 18:53, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
You technically did add the discretionary sanctions alert to the archive page, so the tag isn't wrong. I don't think there's a cause for concern. Huon (talk) 19:23, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Infobox ethnic group

Hi and thank you dealing with these template errors. However, it will really be a good idea to do them in batches over several days/weeks. There appear to be hundreds of articles, all in a single topic area, so this can flood the watchlists of regular editors. – Uanfala (talk) 20:16, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

@Uanfala: Thanks for your message. It is a big work to modify more than 2,000 articles as they haven't been updated for a long time. I have 799 pages to go before the task finishes. Would you like me to continue until the number reaches 0? Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:18, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
It's entirely up to you, but If I were you I'd try to minimise the impact on watchlists by stopping for now and then continuing again after a couple of days, doing the fixes not in one go, but spread over several days. – Uanfala (talk) 20:26, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
@Uanfala: Okay. I will stop for now and continue later. Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:28, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
@Uanfala: I made 250 more edits today and stopped. I am going to do this over a few days. Pkbwcgs (talk) 16:29, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
you should stop completely, so many mistakes ... at first, I thought it was just a simple mistake, but you continue after being reverted [1] [2] ... Frietjes (talk) 18:17, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
@Frietjes: I will stop now but what is the problem? I am simply doing what it said at Category:Articles using Template:Infobox ethnic group with deprecated parameters. Pkbwcgs (talk) 18:19, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
I am very sorry and I will completely stop. Pkbwcgs (talk) 18:21, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
However, what will happen to the pages in the category? It is deprecated. That is what it said but I will stop. I promise. Pkbwcgs (talk) 18:23, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
@Frietjes: Can you please forgive me and explain the problem. Pkbwcgs (talk) 18:27, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Just because it is deprecated doesn't mean it should automatically (and without thinking) be changed from |poptime= to |population=. In the examples above, you ended up having two |population= parameters, when instead they should have been replaced by |total= and |total_year=. Per the terms of the last time you got sent to ANI for this, I'm revoking your AWB access. This is just another instance in a series of events where you jump into something without fully understanding what you are doing. Primefac (talk) 18:27, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
@Primefac: You let me edit with AWB for deprecated templates when I had helpme. Pkbwcgs (talk) 18:28, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

I didn't "let" you do anything, you asked if it was a valid task and I said yes. If you had messed that one up as badly as you appear to have messed this one up, I probably would have pulled AWB from you as well. Primefac (talk) 18:39, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Palmdale, California

Hi. I just undid a whole bunch of original research at Palmdale, California, and want to let you know there may be collateral damage to the more recent edit you made there. If so, I'm sorry, but I'm finding it hard to identify from the diff everything that your edit changed. RivertorchFIREWATER 04:17, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

@Rivertorch: What is wrong with the edit? The edit I made looks fine. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:25, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
You seemed to have remove the square bracket I fixed. It might be because you reverted the whole thing but reverting the square bracket correction I put to Knight High School is not correct. I am going to put the square bracket back in as it is a formatting error. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:29, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
OK, it was a square bracket. I somehow couldn't find it in the diff. RivertorchFIREWATER 03:00, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Scripts

I want to make a script which makes fixing pages in Category:CS1 errors: dates easier. Can you please help me out. Thanks. Pkbwcgs (talk) 14:43, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

What kinds of date errors would you like to fix with a script? Most of the script-fixable errors are fixed once every month or two by BattyBot, operated by GoingBatty. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:16, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
@Jonesey95: I want to fix date errors in references that can be fixed easily. For example, inappropriate date formats etc.
Please give some specific examples, or link to fixes that you have already made that you think could be made with a script. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:24, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
Feel free to look at User:BattyBot/CS1_errors-dates for inspiration. GoingBatty (talk) 16:48, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
@Jonesey95: Sorry for the delayed reply. Something like [3]. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:31, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
In the case of that edit, how did you decide whether the correct date was 08, 18, or 28? How would a script decide? If the date was "-3", how would you decide among 03, 13, 30, and 31? – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:55, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
@Jonesey95: I checked the history. The reference was added here on 8 January 2018. So it was pretty clear that the access date must have been 8 January 2018 which is 2018-01-08 in the correct format. Pkbwcgs (talk) 19:13, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
So, if it was access-date, it would look at the history of when the edit has been made that added the reference. If it was date, it would look at the date the source was created that was added to the reference. Pkbwcgs (talk) 19:15, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
That sounds like good methodology. I do not know how to write a script that compares text in an article to the article's history to see when that text was added, or that compares a citation date in an article to a date that might be found in that source on-line. Maybe someone else can help with that. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:52, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Action Bronson filmography

Hello Pkbwcgs. I am just letting you know that I deleted Action Bronson filmography, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. ~ Amory (utc) 21:46, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

Travis County STAR Flight

Can you provide me with more specifics as to why the draft page was deleted? I’m new to this, and still learning how things are done.

Thanks,

@Ja42baker: Your page as deleted because you plagiarised the content from a website. This is not allowed. Read Wikipedia:Plagiarism.

May I recreate the article, if information is paraphrased? Ja42baker (talk) 20:38, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

@Ja42baker: You can as long as you don't copy it from online. However, close paraphrasing is not recommended. Please read WP:PARAPHRASE. Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:41, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Understood. I’ll put more time into it to it and try to diversify sources. Thanks for your help. Ja42baker (talk) 20:43, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Draft:Thangno

I see you've been active, working on copyright issues. Thanks.

However I'm puzzled by: Draft:Thangno

It looks to me like the whole thing is a copy from [this site], Which asserts full copyright. I see that you removed a portion and request revdel. Do you think I'm missing something? I'm tempted to nominator as G12.S Philbrick(Talk) 20:46, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

@Sphilbrick: Oh. I am using CopyPatrol and it only said a portion of it is copied. However, looking at it, it looks like a G12 for me. It is tagged and I would say please delete. Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:49, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
Welcome to copy patrol. I deleted it.S Philbrick(Talk) 20:53, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
