Our conflict of interest policy[edit]

Based on your user name and the article you have been editing

Information icon Hello, Pngreen. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:51, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Help me![edit]

Please help me with making the Philip Nevill Green article compliant. I work as Philip Green's assistant and was asked to set up a page on Wikipedia. There was previously a User page on Philip Green. This still appears when carrying out a search on google. The article Philip Nevill Green was written by myself rather than Mr Green. Can you please give some advice on how to edit the article in order to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. I have found references from secondary sources which I hope will help to meet Wikipedia's general notabilty guidelines. I am new to Wikipedia and am finding it quite difficult to navigate my way around and would appreciate any help with improving this article.

First: read the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. You should understand that Wikipedia is not LinkedIn and is not intended as a place for people to write about themselves, or to instruct their staff to do so, so that your edits will be under heavy scrutiny.
Second: as you are not Mr Green, you should not use his name as your username. Please request a change of username by going to WP:Changing username - read down to the bottom of that page, click on "Simple", and follow the instructions. Your username can be related to your real name or not, as you choose (see WP:REALNAME for some considerations), but it should not be the name of any group or organization, or of any other living person.
You have done absolutely the right thing in declaring your interest and asking for help. I will post a note at the WP:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard which will bring other editors to help and review the article.
The user-page at User:Philip Nevill Green is not an appropriate use for a user page - they are intended for contributors to the encyclopedia to say something about themselves and their Wikipedia work, if they choose, not for autobiographies. I will arrange for it to be deleted. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 16:22, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
