Hey Polly I noticed you edited the parameters of fair use for my book cover. Can the cover now legitimately stay on Wikipedia? Thanks a lot for the edit; my page was simply a project for my English class at UCLA but now I've grown quite fond of learning the ropes of Wikipedia editing. Thanks again! Deleting Account-Talk Page[edit]

  • Very little chance of that, why do you want to? Polly (Parrot) 00:14, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

I did not make any vandalism remarks on the article Tim Duncan. I found them to be very educational cause kids need to know that he is very sexually active. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.6.45.156 (talk) 00:41, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem[edit]

Thanks for the reminder. Problem corrected. -- House of Scandal (talk) 18:00, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Cohen's The Theatre cover[edit]

I'm not certain how to procede, responding to your note about the copyright for the cover of this book. I have, in fact, received permission from Robert Cohen, holder of the copyright for the book and who owns the photos in that book, to use the cover on the Wiki page about him. Weimar03 (talk) 19:59, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

P.s., The above mentioned page is Robert Cohen (acting theorist) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Weimar03 (talkcontribs) 19:59, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • You'd need to contact a WP:OTRS volunteer and most likely email them some proof of the permission. In the meantime I can add a fairuse rationale and licensing which would also prevent deletion. Polly (Parrot) 20:13, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Kindred Spirit Hybrid Oak[edit]

Objecting to the proposed deletion of Kindred Spirit Hybrid Oak. Forgive I don't understand Wikipedia since I am not much online - I am a gardener. I came to Wiki looking for an oak that was columnar. Using wiki's easy format to my surprise I found something very suitable in Kindred Spirit Hybrid Oak. I am loathe to think that the page is threatened with deletion. I can't think of a more useful place to look for an unusual /rare/ unique specimen plant than wiki. Why should the page be earmarked for deletion. It has been so useful to me. I shall order such an unusual plant from suppliers in the UK. But I wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't for wiki. Please don't delete the page.

Polly... These are very kind words. I also wish they would remove the proposed deletion of this page. I built it so that users like yourself and my current students could use this page as a resource. The Kindred Spirit Hybrid Oak page was not made out of malicious intent of discrediting Wiki. Sorry to inform you that this cultivar is currently only available in the US, this should change in the near future. Please stay in touch. Joshnadler

Fair Use Subsections[edit]

Thank you for the reminder, I have been placing fair use sections in each of the uploaded images. I certainly wish to comply with the rules and restrictions placed on copyright media and their use on this site.

Regards,

Baron

  • You might find it easier to add the fair use rationale at the same time as you upload. Polly (Parrot) 22:32, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think I have it figured out now, thanks. I'm just beginning to get used to the tools for wiki. ~Baron —Preceding unsigned comment added by BaronTaltos (talkcontribs) 22:39, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Message[edit]

Listen buddy, this is weeditstuff talking and im not happy as u took my information of the miniature golf page. Now i understand you've got some issues, wanna fight about it. I challenge you to a duel.

Mary Hood[edit]

Thanks Polly for your earlier post. I corrected the copyright.

Question, and maybe you don't know, but I'm curious. Any reason as to why in the last week I could type in "Mary Hood" or "Mary Hood wikipedia" and Yahoo would bring me to the wiki page, but now, it no longer does that? Is there some type of tag to put on wiki to make the search engines pick up articles, or is it just a whim... something that yahoo and google do? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Carsonmc (talkcontribs) 06:31, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I really haven't got a clue about that one, Google and Yahoo's workings are a mystery to me. Polly (Parrot) 20:13, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help[edit]

Hey it looks like you know how to use wikipedia. How do u customise your page like you have? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Superbus1 (talkcontribs) 01:42, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Try having a look at a few User pages, the ones you like click on the "edit this page" tab and you'll see the coding. You could copy and paste the bits you like onto your User page and personalise them to your taste. This page Wikipedia:Userboxes#Gallery will give you links to all the userboxes availiable, try adding some to your User Page for starters.Polly (Parrot) 01:49, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Ok i see what you meen. I will try finishing it tomorrow one last question. Is there any restrictions on copying and pasting things from other wiki pages onto your homepage? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Superbus1 (talkcontribs) 01:56, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Copying and pasting Wikipedia articles onto your User page would be frowned upon, misrepresenting yourself as an Admin or suchlike would also be a big no no. Have a look here Wikipedia:User page for more info. Oh and try to remember to sign your name after messages, just click on the 4 wavy lines below the editing box. Deleting talk page[edit]

This account was created for an experiment. I don't plan on ever using it again, so I might as well delete it, right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eronara (talkcontribs) 21:43, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • You can try placing {{db-author}} on your Talk page with a brief explanation why you want it deleted, but it might well be refused. Polly (Parrot) 21:48, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copywright Reminder[edit]

Thanks for the head up on the walther/gemtech picture. I overlooked it during the upload. I corrected it but an individual who enjoys such things deleted it from the article anyway. Sic transit gloria munde. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcumpston (talkcontribs) 00:41, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • No problem, you could always add it back to the article if you think it enhances it. Polly (Parrot) 00:49, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No biggie. The picture does illustrate a popular accessory for that item but the guy who deleted it enjoys prolonged disputes and I like to be selective about my battles. --Mcumpston (talk) 01:48, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work![edit]

Nice work catching the image copyvios of Stewbob (talk · contribs). Perhaps I am assuming too much good faith, but I only blocked him for 12 hours under the hope that will make him realize we are serious about copyright law. If he disregards the warnings, let me know and I will make it permanent. Thanks again for your hard work! --Kralizec! (talk) 03:56, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hopefully the 12 hour break will give him pause for thought. Polly (Parrot) 03:59, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry[edit]

Sorry but I dont know what to do, how can I upload pics? what do I need to do? what pics should I put?

Beatlesnicole (talk) 03:58, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • You were uploading screenshots from a TV show, these are copyrighted. Copyrighted images need the correct license and a fair use rationale for them to be acceptable for use in articles. Non-free images like screenshots or DVD covers etc cannot be added to User space even with a fair use rationale. Polly (Parrot) 04:06, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Here's an example of a screenshot with licensing and fair use rationale [1]. Polly (Parrot) 04:10, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright[edit]

I uploaded an image ([[Image:Revamped Flareon.png|Cute, eh?]]). It's a sprite from video game that I've modified, so I don't know what copyright type I should use. Can you help me? --EinsteiNewton 17:28, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • You could try this one {{Non-free game screenshot}} with a fair use rationale, but remember it could only be used in article space not user space as it's non-free. Even though you've modified it the original copyright owners rights would, most likely still hold. Polly (Parrot) 17:36, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dawson (porn star) page[edit]

---Regarding Dawson (porn star) page - The picture that was uploaded had a complete VALID copyright. I own the picture. I took the picture. I granted Wilipedia the license to use the picture. What could be any clearer than that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cainebj (talkcontribs) 21:05, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • In order for it to be compliant you need to add a license, please peruse this section Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/All#Free licenses and add one of them to the image page. You may then remove the tag I added to the image page and it should be safe from deletion. I hope this answers your question. Polly (Parrot) 21:11, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

edit undo[edit]

Hi again, I am checking with you for advice, I am having trouble again with my edits being undone by Kitchen knife. I do not know what this guy (or lass) problem is but I am working on something and he scrubs it. I am not perfect if i get something wrong I accept critisism. I do not know why this character is so abrupt. Dmcm2008 (talk) 21:46, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • The centre of the dispute appears to be Maghull, can't it be described as both a town and suburb of Liverpool, as both seem accurate? Polly (Parrot) 21:54, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your quick reply, I would agree. However I am a little disappointed in the manner the other user is going about his work. Dmcm2008 (talk) 22:03, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've added both descriptions into the article, that seems fair. If Kitchen Knife still keeps reverting you could refer to the WP:Mediation Committee. Polly (Parrot) 22:11, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you check the edit history you will find that this is not the first time that you have made this edit. It is very rude to ignore the previous discussion.--Kitchen Knife (talk) 22:26, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • That time I reverted an edit from a suburb to town description. Now it's described as both, which seems accurate and a reasonable compromise. Polly (Parrot) 22:32, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image question[edit]

Hi, Polly! Just a quick question - you marked Image:Whittle.jpg with {{db-imgcopyvio}}, though the image is marked {{pd-self}}. Help me understand? I don't know a lot about the image deletion policies, and am fairly new with the mop, so just trying to educate myself :) Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 02:24, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello? -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 21:15, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry didn't see your message. OK here goes, the image is a screenshot from the TV series Whittle (UK game show), so cannot be placed in the public domain. The uploader has added several copyrighted images from this TV show and labelled them all public domain, a blatant breach of copyright. Polly (Parrot) 21:21, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. From a newbie-admin perspective, the {{db-i9}} banner says "the uploader does not assert public domain, fair use, or a free license", which, in this case he did. Does the template need to be more explicit? Or is this just a really noob thing that I need to learn and get over? :) -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 21:35, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • If you read the whole text of the db-i9 [2] you'll see that handy little bit in brackets and the uploader does not assert (other than through image tags) that it is public domain, freely licensed, fair use, or used with permission. which doesn't appear in the template. I guess this was added to deal with blatant false license tags being used. Polly (Parrot) 21:41, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Saw that. I'm going to make the template match the I9 so it's a little less confusing to us noobs. And delete the imagess :D -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 22:15, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Update: Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion/Templates (images). -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 22:17, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Excellent idea, that should make things clearer for everybody. Polly (Parrot) 22:19, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

another image question[edit]

Hello Polly!, I may have inadverdently loaded two of the same image. You pasted a speedy deletion notice on my talk page, so, help me out here. If you delete one, will they both be deleted? How do I keep the one being used and delete the one not used? Many thanks, new to the game and learning as I get kicked. Canis Pugnax (talk) 03:10, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello to you, not sure how relevant this is now, but no only one of the images should get deleted. It should be the one with the deletion template on it. If the worst happens and the one you are using is deleted then you can always reupload it, just make sure it has the right license and fair use rationale if required. Polly (Parrot) 18:27, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My images[edit]

I have already submitted the images for their articles. User:Tarja Lawless —Preceding comment was added at 19:07, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • If you object to the deletion then please follow the instructions on the template. Using pictures of actors in character to illustrate their articles is a breach of the policy section of WP:non-free images. Polly (Parrot) 19:18, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SnoBladerCAN blocked[edit]

I originally slapped a 3-day block on that guy for his bad uploads--but after seeing that he was uploading copies of the same copyrighted image, I extended it to indef. Good grief, what a mess ... Blueboy96 20:44, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yes a very strange user, possibly being pointy for some reason or other.Polly (Parrot) 20:47, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Location of Asia[edit]

Hi, it seems that User:LEITBE has uploaded another version at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Location_of_Asia.png. Could you look into it if you can? Ryalev (talk) 02:26, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Looking at his logs he's only ever uploaded the image twice, the first one was deleted as being redundant due to being an exact copy of the second one. That image seems to be correctly licensed so there is no reason to delete it. Polly (Parrot) 02:37, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Oh, I meant that both seem to be a copy of [3]. Also sorry about posting the entire image on your page before, only meant to post a link to it. Ryalev (talk) 07:02, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • OK now I understand, he re-uploaded a Commons image under a different license, I've now tagged it for speedy deletion. Polly (Parrot) 15:41, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

End of the temporary injunction[edit]

Pictures[edit]

I'm not allowed to upload pictures for articles that I've taken myself? Is it because it is of a book cover? Then the articles The Magic Finger, The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, etc. need to have their pictures removed as well. kkarma (talk) 04:50, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Littleminx.tv[edit]

Polly, I've been working for Littleminx.tv and are working to provide them with a source on the web. Not meant to be promotional but rather informative, the Little Minx entry is endorsed by the company. I am having difficulties with copyright procedures and hope you can help, rather than simply tagging my images. Thank you! EKlein428 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 16:37, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • As a commercial image you'd really need to prove you have permission by going through WP:OTRS and emailing them some evidence. Also as you are working for a company and editing an article on them you have a conflict of interest. You could use the images under a copyright license and fair use rationale as an alternative. Polly (Parrot) 16:45, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I work on behalf of them, but not directly for them. I am not putting up promotional content we are merely providing information on an entry that had not existed. How do I put a notification of "a copyright license and fair use rationale" on the image. I've had difficulty with this. Can you please direct me to the proper location for more information. I greatly appreciate it.Again, sorry for the confusion.--Eklein428 (talk) 16:48, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help Polly! I am adding the applicable information to each image now! Thanks! --Eklein428 (talk) 17:00, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
