.The article exists in French and Norwegian and Italian but shouldn't in English for some reasons?

Phonetic transcriptions in French[edit]

Bonjour! Please refer to Help:IPA/French regarding the transcription of stress in French phrases. It says: “French has no word-level stress so stress marks should not be used in transcribing French words.” I see where your position comes from (and I don't necessarily disagree). I have not invented this convention myself, but there are more than 40,000 articles with transcriptions that follow this convention. So it does not make sense to deviate from the convention in one single article. If you want, you can explain your thoughts at Help talk:IPA/French and see if you can gather enough support for changing the convention. I am not going to revert your edit on the Just Fontaine article because I hate edit wars, but I would like to ask you to remove the stress mark yourself. Merci d'avance et bon weekend!
