Well... thank you. Pophop (talk) 22:33, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} (What is the rule on using the Wiktionary to define terms within a Wikipedia article?)

Wiktionary is not considered to be a reliable source, so it is not appropriate to use it as a reference. neuro(talk) 14:05, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help request[edit]

{{helpme}}

I want to create a link between "SPI" - or sensitive personal information and "PII" or "personally identifiable information" for which a Wikipedia article already exists. They are essentially the same thing. SPI is growing in use: http://iraa.trinity.edu/iraa/x561.xml and http://www.lbo.state.oh.us/fiscal/fiscalnotes/127ga/HB0648EN.htm Excerpt: "Confidential personal information (referred to as sensitive personal information (SPI) in the Governor's November 20, 2008 Management Directive) includes social security numbers, federal tax identification numbers, financial information, and so forth."

How to do that?

Possibly a separate article is needed.... SPI can include financial information that while not associated with an individual can be considered "sensitive personal information" in the sense of "company" being a person.

Hi there. I have just made a WP:REDIRECT called Sensitive personal information, which now links to the article on PII. You can see the actual page that I created by clicking this special link. It is a page, just like any other, but it contains this line;
#REDIRECT [[Personally identifiable information]]
That means, if anyone puts "Sensitive personal information" into the search box now, they will be taken to the PII article.
I also edited SPI, which lists all uses of the term, and added "Sensitive personal information" at the end of the "Technology" section.
If you wish to create an article about SPI, that would be great (with appropriate sources, etc) - and the article could simply be put over the top of that redirect. However, it is usually best to develop an article in your own userspace before making it "live", so that you can check it is all OK (or ask others to check it). For example, you could make a page called user:Pophop/SPI - that will be a redlink right now, because it doesn't yet exist, but you can click on it and make it.
I will add my own 'welcome' message below, which should help you further. But the best thing would be, come and get help online, with this or this.
Best of luck,  Chzz  ►  01:06, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome and introduction[edit]

Hi, Pophop. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person. You can talk to me right now. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  01:06, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ようこそ
  • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
  • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
  • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
  • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!
