Online Ambassadors[edit]

I saw the quality of your contributions at DYK and clicked on over to your user page and was pretty impressed. Would you be interested in helping with the WP:Online_Ambassadors program? It's really a great opportunity to help university students become Wikipedia contributers. I hope you apply to become an ambassador, Sadads (talk) 02:35, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request for newspaper articles[edit]

Hi Poroubalous. I am looking for specific articles from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the St. Louis Globe-Democrat in the 1940–1985 range. The customary research databases do not include this time period for these newspapers. Since you are located in St. Louis, would you be willing to visit the Saint Louis Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where they have "St. Louis Globe Democrat, 1875-1986. AN.S2 G54y" and "St. Louis Post Dispatch, 1878 - current. AN.S2P6" on microfilm, and make copies of the articles for me? I'll list them here if you are willing to do this. Thanks, Goodvac (talk) 00:40, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Goodvac, I would love to go to the library for you. I would go to the Mercantile Library (it's lovely), but the St. Louis County Library is closer to me, and it has the collections you seek -- see http://www.slcl.org/branches/hq/sc/sc-news.htm. I have never used that particular library to get microfilm records, but if it's anything like what I've used elsewhere, I can print, scan and send them to you via email. I saw your partial list on the WikiProject page; if you would provide the full list here, that would be great. poroubalous (talk) 01:43, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, thank you! You're a lifesaver. I sure hope they let you make copies of the articles. Here's the full list:
  • Corrigan, Patricia. "The Triumph of the Arch: 1965-1986." St. Louis Post-Dispatch 27 Oct. 1985: 12F.
  • Dunlap, Robert. "Riverfront Arch Designed to Catch the Eye of the World." St. Louis Post-Dispatch 19 Jan. 1958: 12.
  • "The Gateway Arch—A Comparative View," St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Jan. 9, 1966
  • Hannon, Robert E. "Keeping Up with the Skyline." St. Louis Post-Dispatch 14 Jan. 1969.
  • John McGuire, "Gateway Arch Now Spanning 10 Years." St. Louis Post-Dispatch. October 27, 1975.
  • McCue, George. "The Emerging St. Louis Symbol." St. Louis Post-Dispatch 10 June 1962: 13G.
  • McCue, George. "The Emerging Saint Louis Symbol." St. Louis Post-Dispatch 10 June 1964: 8.
  • Saarinen, Eero. "Saarinen Tells How 'Gateway' was Conceived." St. Louis Post-Dispatch 7 March 1948.
  • Terry Dickson, "Big Builder's Biggest Challenge—The Arch." St. Louis Post-Dispatch 16 March 1962: 3D.
  • "Topping-Out Day," St. Louis Post-Dispatch, October 28, 1965
  • "Way Back in 1933 Schoolgirl Drew Picture of Arch in Yearbook." St. Louis Globe-Democrat 25-26 May 1968
  • Wood, Sue Ann. "The Gateway Arch." St. Louis Globe-Democrat 17-18 Feb. 1983.
Hope this isn't too much to ask! Goodvac (talk) 06:34, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you don't mind if I add just one more:
  • Lombard, John. "Gateway Arch: Catalyst to Downtown Revival." Saint Louis Business Journal 20-26 June 1983.
Goodvac (talk) 18:37, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I noticed that several of them have adjacent articles about the Arch that are not in your list. Would you like them? poroubalous (talk) 20:08, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely! I'd like to get all the info and news articles about the arch as I can. Thanks again! Goodvac (talk) 22:38, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I couldn't find the two George McCue articles -- June 10 1962 doesn't have a 13G, and it's not on 8A or any other 8 in June 10 1964. I didn't have time today before they closed to get the last three, but I'll go over tomorrow and get them. The files are TIFF images; how would you like me to get them to you? poroubalous (talk) 22:29, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, I'll recheck the dates for the McCue articles. I've just sent you an email through the wiki mail system, so you can reply to it with the TIFF files. Thank you! Goodvac (talk) 22:38, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I received your "part 1" images—good info there! Do you have the rest yet? Thanks again, Goodvac (talk) 23:19, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm such a slacker -- I got caught up in issues with Facebook and a new Missouri law relating to teachers. I am sending the second batch of ones I have tonight, and I'm headed back to the library tomorrow on my day off. poroubalous (talk) 04:33, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again for the second batch. I think you mentioned you were getting the last three? I really appreciate this. I'll get to work on the article by next week. Goodvac (talk) 22:43, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reviewing this at DYK, where things are going much more slowly than they were even a month ago. Moonraker (talk) 02:53, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

History of St. Louis promoted to GA[edit]

I have promoted the article to GA, per the review. Congratulations! I left it open for a few days, to allow more comments from Cmguy, but since none happened, I'm satisfied with the result. It's a great article, and I encourage you to keep at it for a future FA nomination. If you found the review helpful, consider doing a GA review in return. For example, I have an open nomination out on an article I have worked on: The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. ;-) Cheers, AstroCog (talk) 22:01, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I'll add the cites that Cmguy asked for, I just don't have a strong background in early Native American history so I'm hunting down a bibliography that might aid in that part. I'll certainly reciprocate a GA review when I get a little time to devote to it (a rarity these days for me). Thank you again for your hard work. poroubalous (talk) 22:03, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, congrats on the GA, this was a huge article! Just an FYI, History of St. Louis, Missouri (1866–1904) and History of St. Louis, Missouri (1981–present) are missing a bibliography, so the references don't really mean anything right now. Cheers, /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 01:57, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

History of Missouri[edit]

Great job on recent Missouri history! Rjensen (talk) 17:26, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not nearly done yet, but thanks for the encouragement! poroubalous (talk) 17:36, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, this is an even bigger task than the St. Louis history article! I bought a book for this article last year but never got around to reading it; it's Missouri: An Illustrated History, and I think it has a good deal of information. If you're looking for a source for something, this book might have relevant information, and feel free to ask me. It divides the history into eight sections: early history (starting from the Clovis culture), French and Spanish (1541–1803), territorial days (1804–1821), early statehood (1821–1854), pre-Civil War and Civil War era (1854–1865), Reconstruction and expansion (1865–1900), early 20th century (1900–1941), and modern era (1941–2006). It also has a good number of images, but I think there's a better database here, including a wealth of PD pics. Cheers, /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 02:25, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
