Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:25, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

Famitsu review

I have been expanding the article The King of Fighters '99 and been wondering if you have issues from its Famitsu review. It's an old game so I doubt it though. The article's reception sections seems to be lacking reviews in regards to the quality of each port since the arcade game was ported to three consoles (Neo Geo, PlayStation 1 and Dreamcast) during its initial release. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 19:31, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

@Tintor2: I don't actually have any issues as such. I looked. The only review (and only partial I'm afraid) kept by Famitsu is the PlayStation version. It could be that this is the only version reviewed. --ProtoDrake (talk) 20:11, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
I see. While I don't understand the article, it looks like it lacks the four opinions for the final score. Nevertheless, thanks for helping me. While '99 was released in North America, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 were only released as part of compilations so was kinda hard to find specific reviews until Nintendo licensed some of them.Tintor2 (talk) 20:17, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
By any chance do understand if any of this mentions something about the character I previously asked you about, K'? It's supposed be a big comment by artist Hiroaki.Tintor2 (talk) 01:03, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
It says that the illustrator'a first work on the series was KOF 2000, and while not finding illustrating men or women easy he found K' very easy to draw from the beginning. --ProtoDrake (talk) 07:20, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks.Tintor2 (talk) 13:15, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
I see. Thanks still.Tintor2 (talk) 17:09, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
Found something about The King of Fighters XI here but I don't know if it's just trivial commentary of the gameplay or actually creation info. Could you give it a look if you have the time? Thanks.Tintor2 (talk) 16:24, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
@Tintor2: I've gone through it. It's all "commentary of the gameplay". --ProtoDrake (talk) 16:59, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

One of the character designers from the series, Falcoon, often posts tweets about the cast. I was interested in this one since it appears to be talking about Kyo Kusanagi and this because it appears to be about K'. By any chance do you understand them?Tintor2 (talk) 20:41, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

One Piece Plot Section

Hey, I noticed you've reviewed One Piece. A plot section is being proposed (plot is at timestamp 17:57, 19 December 2018) which changes a substantial amount of text. Project Sakura Wars

Hello. First of all, excellent work on the Sakura Wars video game series. Second, I'm thinking about spinning off the latest Sakura Wars game (Project Sakura Wars) into a separate article. Should we wait a couple of weeks to create it? Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 20:27, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

@Sjones23: Soubds good. I'd wait a week or two. There are detailed interviews coming. As to the main series article, I've just got the reception and media sections to put together and it'll be effectively complete. I've also got sources enough for a variety of other things related to Sakura Wars (the OVA series that can its own single article under a proper name, and there's sources for the media list). I'm surprised how little there was about the series given its footprint in Japan. --ProtoDrake (talk) 21:20, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
Oh and of course I did discover some discrepancies with the sources and the actual ending credits regarding the staff and I’ve corrected them. For example, Oji Hiroi is actually listed in the credits as General Producer (総合プロデューサー) for all of the games up to now. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 22:05, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, that can be a problem working with little to no English sources. Thanks. As long as other text is adjusted and sources added where needed to go with the corrections. --ProtoDrake (talk) 22:16, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
No problem. I’m willing to help, given my familiarity with the Japanese language. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 23:49, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Also, maybe Nihonjoe (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA), an uninvolved user and administrator, may be able to help out with the Japanese sources for the series. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 01:18, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

Regarding WP:FILMPLOT

Hello again. As you may know, WP:FILMPLOT states that summaries should be between 400 to 700 words. Also, there's a relevant quote in the guideline that says "Since films are primary sources in their articles, basic descriptions of their plots are acceptable without reference to an outside source." So, do you think it's necessary to remove the sources from the plot summary? And given my expertise on some film articles like Summer Wars (which was made into a GA), we may need to expand on some plot elements in Sakura Wars: The Movie to fit the word count and add some other plotlines including the Rose Division and Kayama's involvement.

Also, on the subject of that film, we may need some Japanese sources for the reception and expand on the reviews, using film articles like Skyfall (a GA) and Spectre as a point of reference. Thoughts? Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 03:04, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

Manual for the Sakura Wars gameplay sections

Regarding the gameplay for the Sakura Wars articles in general, I'm thinking we should reference the pages from the manuals, using the Crash Bandicoot and Final Fantasy articles as references and move the manuals to the bibliography. We should include the health status bars and the conditions where the game ends (i.e. Ogami or Taiga's unit gets destroyed, failing to achieve certain conditions, etc.). Can you please let me know what your thoughts are about this? Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 18:31, 16 April 2019 (UTC)

If I had the manual scans or in my hands, and/or had a better understanding of Japanese, I'd agree with that. As to the second, it's probably a good idea. That'll be in the manual too. There's always a game over status thing in manuals for games like that. --ProtoDrake (talk) 20:42, 16 April 2019 (UTC)
Of course. I've been scouring the manuals and given my extensive knowledge of the Japanese language, I could try to translate parts of it into English so we might expand on the gameplay as a whole. Let's hope this works. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 20:52, 16 April 2019 (UTC)

Regarding the music

I've contacted PresN (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) for his thoughts on the potential Music of the Sakura Wars articles, which can be found here, here, here, and here. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 16:20, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time right now for those articles, and I never played any Sakura Wars titles. I do see a ton of releases listed on vgmdb (not an rs, but useful to find info), and a bunch of reviews at RPGFan and VGMOnline, though nothing on OriginalSoundVersion. --PresN 16:34, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

I'm merging our two sandbox versions into this. Please note that you're free to edit that page as well; I will redirect it to my sandbox page when it's ready to be moved. Sakura Wars FA discussion

So, I've been thinking about getting the first Sakura Wars game up to FA status with the goal of putting it up on TFA on September 27, 2019 (the 23rd anniversary of the game; hint: it's also two days before my birthday). Also, I'm thinking that Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love may become an FA with the goal of doing the same thing on TFA for July 7, 2019 (the 14th anniversary of the game). Thoughts? Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 05:06, 21 April 2019 (UTC)

I'm fine with that.... And I'm going to nominate Sakura Wars now. I was going to last year, but a quality dip in my editing forced me to put such things on hold until I could get myself back on track. Maybe you could tale So Long, My Love? (oh by the way, I don't know who or how, but during copyedits several sources were removed to leave only the manual, which was kind of a shock given the size of the paragraph, and there was also an uncited statement that didn't have anything to do with the gameplay which I've removed). --ProtoDrake (talk) 14:24, 21 April 2019 (UTC)
I had to include the instruction manual pages in the sources, using the Crash Bandicoot (video game) and Final Fantasy XII articles as models. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 15:23, 21 April 2019 (UTC)
@Sjones23: understood. I've actually rewritten it slightly. I found a PDF scan of the original Saturn manual on Wayback, and managed to cite things down to the page number. It's all sorted. --ProtoDrake (talk) 15:27, 21 April 2019 (UTC)
I'm also thinking about using game guide books as sources for the gameplay section of the Sakura Wars articles in general. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 15:40, 21 April 2019 (UTC)

Oerba Yun Fang

I was about to create the Oerba Yun Fang article, but then I realized there was a good topic for Final Fantasy XIII, so I wanted to contact the people most involved in it, namely you and @PresN:. Wanted to know if either of you would be interested in helping work on the article so as to avoid affecting the GT. - Bryn (talk) (contributions) 11:58, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

@Abryn: Before the article's created, I'd ask whether the character's notability. There was an attempt a while ago to create an article for XV's Gladiolus Amicitia, but that was stopped because the character hasn't got enough information or notability to support a standalone article. If Fang's notable enough, then if the article's well-written enough (which I'm happy to help with depending on how things go), then it can be nominated for GA and keep the general XIII topic from being delisted. --ProtoDrake (talk) 13:25, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
I believe that it is a notable subject. The biggest issue is, I have never actually played Final Fantasy XIII; I just really like Fang. I can certainly tweak her in terms of her development and reception, but as far as in-universe stuff goes, I'm certainly limited. - Bryn (talk) (contributions) 18:52, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Yakuza Kiwami

Hi there. I have been aiming to work in the article Yakuza Kiwami but I found almost nothing in regards to the game's making despite Sega often commenting about most of their titles. A user found these vids but sadly it's all in Japanese. Could you check to see if there is something worthwhile? Anyway, cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 02:29, 17 June 2019 (UTC)

@Tintor2: I already looked for English sources when I saw the original post on the VG WikiProject. Looking round for Japanese sources, I found an interview with series producer and writer Masayoshi Yokoyama and Kiwami director Koji Yoshida on PlayStation Blog.jp, and a different interview with Yokoyama on Inside Games. Does that help? --ProtoDrake (talk) 07:46, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll if somebody can translate them.Tintor2 (talk) 16:20, 17 June 2019 (UTC)

Welcome back to the Editing newsletter.

Since the last newsletter, the team has released two new features for the mobile visual editor and has started developing three more. All of this work is part of the team's goal to make editing on mobile web simpler.

Before talking about the team's recent releases, we have a question for you:

Are you willing to try a new way to add and change links?

If you are interested, we would value your input! You can try this new link tool in the mobile visual editor on a separate wiki.

Follow these instructions and share your experience:

Recent releases

The mobile visual editor is a simpler editing tool, for smartphones and tablets using the mobile site. The Editing team has recently launched two new features to improve the mobile visual editor:

  1. Section editing
    • The purpose is to help contributors focus on their edits.
    • The team studied this with an A/B test. This test showed that contributors who could use section editing were 1% more likely to publish the edits they started than people with only full-page editing.
  2. Loading overlay
    • The purpose is to smooth the transition between reading and editing.

Section editing and the new loading overlay are now available to everyone using the mobile visual editor.

New and active projects

This is a list of our most active projects. Watch these pages to learn about project updates and to share your input on new designs, prototypes and research findings.

  • Edit cards: This is a clearer way to add and edit links, citations, images, templates, etc. in articles. You can try this feature now. Go here to see how: 📲Try Edit Cards.
  • Mobile toolbar refresh: This project will learn if contributors are more successful when the editing tools are easier to recognize.
  • Mobile visual editor availability: This A/B test asks: Are newer contributors more successful if they use the mobile visual editor? We are collaborating with 20 Wikipedias to answer this question.
  • Usability improvements: This project will make the mobile visual editor easier to use.  The goal is to let contributors stay focused on editing and to feel more confident in the editing tools.

Looking ahead

  • Wikimania: Several members of the Editing Team will be attending Wikimania in August 2019. They will lead a session about mobile editing in the Community Growth space. Talk to them about how editing can be improved.
  • Talk Pages: In the coming months, the Editing Team will begin improving talk pages and communication on the wikis.

Learning more

The VisualEditor on mobile is a good place to learn more about the projects we are working on. The team wants to talk with you about anything related to editing. If you have something to say or ask, please leave a message at Talk:VisualEditor on mobile.

Shinya Kogami

Hi there. In case you don't know I have been trying to expand articles related to the anime series Psycho-Pass. However, I couldn't find too much about the original design centered on the protagonist Shinya Kogami. He was designed by mangaka Akira Amano and from what I get when checking this site in romaji Amano talks about her work. I also found this site that from what I get from Amano is that she compares him with Judge Dredd. Am I correct? Sorry, I don't Japanese so I have no idea how expand the creation section since the designer barely talks about her other works like Reborn! (whose character Kyoya Hibari happens to be based on Kogami). Kogami's series, Psycho-Pass, is an anime original so there are multiple authors behind the characters. Thank you for improving the article! It really reads well and is expanded in all fronts. Not sure I like the fact you removed reliable non video games websites references like [2] and [3] and left it unexplained. I appreciate the rewrite a lot, but things like that...nope. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Space Channel 5, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Arcade (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Help needed with finding creation sources

I have been aiming to create an article for the Yakuza character Goro Majima (真島 吾朗) who is quite popular (won a character of the year award, won a poll from the series and has been a playable character in possibly the most popular game). However, I seem be unable to find creation sources from Sega. I managed to find creation but about how his character radically changed for the prequel but nothing about his origins. Since I couldn't come up with anything I instead created the latest protagonist Takayuki Yagami since Sega offered a lot of talk online about him. If possibly, could you give it a look. Still, good work with your articles. Nice to see the Shadow Hearts articles going GA (sadly I never finished any of those games due to issues with my old PS2). Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 01:14, 1 October 2019 (UTC)

Editing News #2 – Mobile editing and talk pages – October 2019

Read this in another languageSubscription list for this multilingual newsletter

Inside this newsletter, the Editing team talks about their work on the mobile visual editor, on the new talk pages project, and at Wikimania 2019.

Help

What talk page interactions do you remember? Is it a story about how someone helped you to learn something new? Is it a story about how someone helped you get involved in a group? Something else? Whatever your story is, we want to hear it!

Please tell us a story about how you used a talk page. Please share a link to a memorable discussion, or describe it on the talk page for this project. The team would value your examples. These examples will help everyone develop a shared understanding of what this project should support and encourage.

Talk Pages

The Talk Pages Consultation was a global consultation to define better tools for wiki communication. From February through June 2019, more than 500 volunteers on 20 wikis, across 15 languages and multiple projects, came together with members of the Foundation to create a product direction for a set of discussion tools. The Phase 2 Report of the Talk Page Consultation was published in August. It summarizes the product direction the team has started to work on, which you can read more about here: Talk Page Project project page.

The team needs and wants your help at this early stage. They are starting to develop the first idea. Please add your name to the "Getting involved" section of the project page, if you would like to hear about opportunities to participate.

Mobile visual editor

The Editing team is trying to make it simpler to edit on mobile devices. The team is changing the visual editor on mobile. If you have something to say about editing on a mobile device, please leave a message at Talk:VisualEditor on mobile.

Edit Cards

What happens when you click on a link. The new Edit Card is bigger and has more options for editing links.

Toolbar

The editing toolbar is changing in the mobile visual editor. The old system had two different toolbars. Now, all the buttons are together. Tell the team what you think about the new toolbar.
  • In September, the Editing team updated the mobile visual editor's editing toolbar. Anyone could see these changes in the mobile visual editor.
    • One toolbar: All of the editing tools are located in one toolbar. Previously, the toolbar changed when you clicked on different things.
    • New navigation: The buttons for moving forward and backward in the edit flow have changed.
    • Seamless switching: an improved workflow for switching between the visual and wikitext modes.
  • Feedback: You can try the refreshed toolbar by opening the mobile VisualEditor on a smartphone. Please post your feedback on the Toolbar feedback talk page.

Wikimania

The Editing Team attended Wikimania 2019 in Sweden. They led a session on the mobile visual editor and a session on the new talk pages project. They tested two new features in the mobile visual editor with contributors. You can read more about what the team did and learned in the team's report on Wikimania 2019.

Looking ahead

  • Talk Pages Project: The team is thinking about the first set of proposed changes. The team will be working with a few communities to pilot those changes. The best way to stay informed is by adding your username to the list on the project page: Getting involved.
  • Testing the mobile visual editor as the default: The Editing team plans to post results before the end of the calendar year. The best way to stay informed is by adding the project page to your watchlist: VisualEditor as mobile default project page.
  • Measuring the impact of Edit Cards: The Editing team hopes to share results in November. This study asks whether the project helped editors add links and citations. The best way to stay informed is by adding the project page to your watchlist: Edit Cards project page.

Space Channel 5

Are you interested at all in making SC5 a Good topic? I'm planning on making an article for the GBA game and for Ulala. - Bryn (talk) (contributions) 01:23, 25 October 2019 (UTC)

@Abryn: I took on the SC5 games due to a drive to improve Dreamcast titles and a casual interest. I haven't got a lot of interest in the series beyond that. But I will say this; Is there enough in terms of its actual development to justify an article on the GBA version? Otherwise it could be seen as lacking the standalone importance for its own article. --ProtoDrake (talk) 10:12, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
Hello, sorry for eavesdropping, but i'm personally interested in creating a Tetsuya Mizuguchi good topic in the future. If there's room for Space Channel 5 to be a good topic too, i'm willing to volunteer.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 15:49, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
Blue Pumpkin Pie, I wouldn't mind. I'm working on a new version of Rez in my sandbox at the moment after all. And if you like, I can hunt roundand find sources for other later games that aren't at GA yet. --ProtoDrake (talk) 16:34, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
That would be great, thank you for your hard work.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 18:13, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
