March 2024[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. 331dot (talk) 09:03, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You haven't "promoted" per se, but you do need to comply with the policies described here. You will also need to clarify the copyright of the image you uploaded, as you claim it as your own personal work, but it appears to be professionally taken. I have no problem unblocking you if you address these issues. 331dot (talk) 09:04, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to just be referring to your username; your username is only one small aspect of the block. Please see my message above. 331dot (talk) 12:47, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you for your comments. Since this is my first editing, I didn't expect copyright issue. Sorry.
By the way, I want to use portrait photo of this public site. https://engineering.purdue.edu/~djlove/
Is there a way to prove the copyright of this picture or should I get another picture? PurdueTASC (talk) 13:29, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My advice is that you not worry about pictures right now, other than to go to Commons and request deletion of the one you uploaded- as no copyright seems to be provided with the image; we must assume it is copyrighted without one. If Perdue owns the copyright and wants to release it, or already has, that needs to be shown, but again, that can wait.
The image is another aspect of the block, but the most important are WP:COI and WP:PAID. Please make a new unblock request where you discuss your understanding of these policies and tell what you will do differently. 331dot (talk) 15:14, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I'm unable to request assistance from my wikipedia mentor or undo due to being blocked by you. Instead, could you please make request deletion image for me? Additionally, I would appreciate it if you could restore my permissions. Thank you." PurdueTASC (talk) 16:38, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You should still have access to Commons, which is separate from Wikipedia. You may make a new unblock request for someone else to review in which you do as has been requested. 331dot (talk) 17:03, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I affirm that I have not received any compensation for my edits, and I fully understand the Wikipedia policies on Conflict of Interest (WP:COI) and Paid Contributions (WP:PAID). Moving forward, I commit to only uploading content with clear copyright status and ensuring full compliance with Wikipedia's content policies.

So you don't work for Purdue or Dr. Love? 331dot (talk) 08:37, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are you asking of private information? PurdueTASC (talk) 13:18, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't need private details, but if you work for him or Purdue, the Terms of Use require that fact to be disclosed, see WP:PAID. 331dot (talk) 13:20, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
PurdueTASC (talk) 13:31, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Someone else will review your request, but I would suggest that you explain to the reviewer how you will comply with the conflict of interest policy. 331dot (talk) 13:35, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Here is my explain about the COI policy in advance. "Hi, I do not receive payment for Wikipedia editing. I just started editing Wikipedia out of a desire and curiosity to correct the information of renowned engineers worldwide.I hope that this unblock request, which has stalled since my first edit, is resolved quickly." PurdueTASC (talk) 13:44, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Someone will review your request, please be patient. 331dot (talk) 15:17, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do not discuss blocks via email as a matter of policy unless the most sensitive personal information is involved. I can remove a block I placed, but I haven't seen a reason to yet. You haven't said how you will edit consistent with the conflict of interest policy. Your paragraph above just explains your purpose here. 331dot (talk) 14:55, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here is my revised sentence: I have disclosed my status as a Purdue student and my lack of financial compensation on the relevant Wikipedia talk page to ensure transparency and comply with the conflict of interest guidelines. I have not received any payments for writing about individuals or events related to Purdue, ensuring my edits are unbiased. I will continue to adhere to Wikipedia's conflict of interest rules and ensure that I do not violate them in any of my future contributions.
The one thing that confuses me is that you requested personal information from me via email, then I disclosed my personal information here, after which you instructed me to wait, and now, two weeks later, you're issuing new instructions. This was the first instance of such editing, and the current pattern, repeated more than five times, feels inappropriate. If this pattern continues, it feels like a form of cyberbullying according to Wikipedia's definition. By blocking me completely, you've deprived me of the opportunity to seek advice even from my wikipedia mentor. PurdueTASC (talk) 15:36, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't recall sending you an email asking for personal information. I don't generally use email in Wikipedia matters like this. I specifically said I didn't need personal information on this page, but that you did need to comply with policy. I'm also confused, you declared as a paid editor, but now say you are not paid. Are you a student of Dr. Love? I don't recall giving new instructions; they are the same as they have been.
You are free to ask your mentor(which are assigned at random) about this matter on this page, you can attract their attention by typing {{u|Username of mentor}} at the start of your post. 331dot (talk) 17:20, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
