File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Woodward cabildo.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Woodward cabildo.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 04:52, 19 January 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 04:52, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You need to go back to File:Woodward cabildo.jpg and enter the missing copyright info. If, as you claim it is, the picture is yours, you need to note that on the info with the picture. Toddst1 (talk) 21:42, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I see you've created a new page, William Woodward 1859-1939 (Preservationist, Artist). Unfortunately, we already have a page on that individual at William Woodward (artist) which more closely matches our naming conventions. Perhaps you could merge the content you created into that article? Best regards, Toddst1 (talk) 21:24, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The name of the article should be William Woodward (artist), per our naming conventions. You should merge your content into that article. When your done, let me know and I'll delete William Woodward 1859-1939 (Preservationist, Artist). If there's any confusion, that's what we have WP:DAB pages for and {{otheruses}} templates on articles.
However the name of the image, File:Woodward cabildo.jpg seems fine, you just need to add the copyright info to it. If you don't add the copyright info to it quickly, saying you own the image, it will be deleted. All images have to have that info attached. Good luck. File:File:Woodward pic of woodward.png listed for deletion[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, File:Woodward pic of woodward.png, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Hi. The above image might or might not be public domain or free licensed for some reason, but I rather doubt you are the copyright holder of this work -- if you are, some information explaining how that came to be might be in order.

It looks like you've gotten off to a bit of a rough start here unfortunately, but I hope this won't discourage you. You seem to have started an article on New Orleans artist William Woodward under a different title than the existing article which I'd started. Great to see someone else interested in the subject, but these different articles on the same subject need to be merged. Take some time to look over the links at the top of the page about Wikipedia guidelines, policies and practices. If you have questions you can't find the answer to, feel free to ask. Thanks! Similarly File:Woodward pic biloxi oyster warf.jpg the information you put on the image description has you, not the late William Woodward, as the author, and the date this painting was created as 2010. Your claim to be the copyright holder of the image looks to be questionable as well. If you put wrong information, please correct it. Thanks. Infrogmation (talk) 03:42, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. If you see this message, can you let me know what museum has the Woodward paintings you uploaded? As far as a license goes, even if you photograph/scan them it will be permissions of the underlying painting that matter. In Woodward's case, because he died 70 years ago, the paintings are in the public domain. The best bet, if you're uploading an image and aren't sure, is to as at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions first. Or you can ask me, but I'm more likely to be wrong.
