Zhangjiang Tram[edit]

Zhangjiang Tram needs more work in the way of English grammar and syntax. I took a stab at it but I'm not entirely happy. Peter Horn User talk 22:52, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll see what I can do; thank you for the suggestion. Queenmomcat (talk) 00:17, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Abdurrahman Adbi Arnavut pasha[edit]

You are brave to try it, but you did good work on Abdurrahman Adbi Arnavut pasha, a hard article to improve. I have added to the talk page, and left a comment on the title. Pasha is a title or rank, and not a name, and probably should not be in the article title. --DThomsen8 (talk) 00:46, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you; there were more than a few moments in the editing work where I thought "How could I have thought I could finish this?" It does need attention from someone who knows more about the subject than I. Queenmomcat (talk)
It is not a copy editing task, but I never do a copy edit and leave the templates unattended. Every article should have at least one template. I learn a lot by looking at other articles to find out what templates I need. I did just enough GofCE work to qualify for a barnstar. --DThomsen8 (talk) 19:29, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE Drive wrap-up[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors January 2012 backlog elimination drive
GOCE January 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graph

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter.

Participation

45 people signed up for this drive this time; of these, 35 participated. This is similar to the number of editors who helped out in November. Thanks to all who participated! Barnstars will be distributed in the near future.

Progress report

Recent drives have been focusing on the oldest three months in the backlog. During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—July, August, and September 2010—from the queue, and there are less than 300 articles remaining from 2010. End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.

When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators.

Thank you for participating in the January 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy edit drive will be in March.

DAM[edit]

This painting is in the Delaware Art Museum, and I am a member of the Wikipedia:GLAM/Delaware Art Museum project, recruited by my friend User:Smallbones, who has accompanied me to two Wikipedia meet-ups in Manhattan. I am planning to go to Wikimania in Washington, DC, in July, perhaps with Peter (Smallbones). Can you consider that? Perhaps it might even be a networking way to look for work, if you are not yet employed, and in any case it will be fun.--DThomsen8 (talk) 16:50, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited List of Oz episodes, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ryan O'Reilly (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Please say hello to User talk:Ekroski, a librarian in Manhattan, and a newbie Wikipedia editor. We need more editors, especially female ones, and better yet, someone with both computer technical skills and librarian skills. She recently created an excellent article, which you can find through her contribs list. --DThomsen8 (talk) 16:34, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copy-edit help, Mithila (Nepal)[edit]

I have been working on Mithila (Nepal) during an AfD, doing copy-editing and other improvements, but it is hard work. If you could spend a few minutes doing some minor polishing, I would appreciate the help. --DThomsen8 (talk) 13:07, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to notify you that I have nominated this article for deletion, an article you recently edited and significantly changed. If you wish to participate with the discussion, click here. SwisterTwister talk 19:18, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ruefully, I have to agree. I'm not sure there's any way to save the article, nor am I convinced of its notability. Queenmomcat (talk) 20:33, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Did you copyedit this and forget to remove the CE tag? --Greenmaven (talk) 10:14, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

More that I started copyediting it and haven't come back for the final checkthrough to make sure it's done. (at least for now.) Thanks for the reminder. I'll finish it off today. Queenmomcat (talk)

Sussex County, New Jersey[edit]

After seeing what you needed to fix, it seems I have a problem with the word "official." Thanks for your help.--ColonelHenry (talk) 19:25, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(snorts of laughter) Don't feel bad; there are some words I canNOT spell correctly despite being aware of the problem--guarantee, tongue and bureau always look wrong to me. Queenmomcat (talk) 20:06, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rollover words[edit]

Hi Queenmomcat. I saw your question in the edit summary on the drive page. Yes, you got the rollover words right. Cheers, --Stfg (talk) 13:11, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Phew. Thank you; I figured it really was just that easy but wanted to make sure. Queenmomcat (talk) 13:15, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Longest article[edit]

Hi Queenmomcat. I saw your edit summary. Just confirming that you were right to swap out Lfstevens's 2nd one (actually we edit conflicted as I was doing it too). Hope you're enjoying the drive. --Stfg (talk) 20:35, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Phew again (though sorry about the edit conflict!); I'm not trying to do Lfstevens out of any glory, mind, more trying to make sure that Ankit Maity got zir fair share too. (and yep: enjoying the drive.)

Hi! I just wanted to say, as one of the past contributors to the article, thankyou so much for volunteering to clean up this article. It was a massive mess and your hard work has made the biggest difference. You're soo awesome :D--Coin945 (talk) 16:34, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! I'm not quite done... Queenmomcat (talk) 16:39, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Purple Mark[edit]

I tagged the article Purple Mark with the "Peacock" tag, and now I am being asked to point out where the adjectives used are not justified by the sources. Perhaps I am influenced by the colorful fashions and hair of Purple Mark to think that the language too colorful. I looking for a second opinion, and I would appreciate it if you respond right here, and not on my talk page. --DThomsen8 (talk) 00:49, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Let me go check it out...back soon...Queenmomcat (talk) 14:56, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. It's not so much the adjectives that bother me, but the qualifiers and the adverbs. (As you say, he is a colorful character in more ways than one!) "By his own account", his name derives from the time he was struck by lightning. He moved to Seattle "around" 1992. He "usually" dresses thus, and "attempts" to eat in corresponding colors. He worked at Bardahl until "at least" 2007 at what was "basically" an assembly line job. All that makes me think the original author, the one who's complaining, didn't have a lot of concrete background information upon which to base the article, and put in filler. As for the notability tag, while I suspect that I'm more lenient than most--Wikipedia is where I come to find out about just such footnote people as Purple Mark--this particular article seems a bit peripheral, even for Wikipedia. Are there many other articles about similar characters? Queenmomcat (talk) 16:00, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I gather from your reply that I am justified in tagging the article with "This article may contain wording that promotes the subject in a subjective manner without imparting real information." The peacock words could easily be qualifiers and adverbs. You have helped me get ideas on how to respond to the author complaining about the tag. I have expected a deletionist to seek speedy deletion or to do an AfD any time now. I will be patient, especially since I have plenty of more serious issues to work on, until the new year. I believe there was or is an article on the Emperor of America, an eccentric living in San Francisco, but beyond that, no, I don't think there are many eccentrics with articles on Wikipedia. Ah, but what is the category? Thanks for your help. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!--DThomsen8 (talk) 02:52, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the short version is "As an editor and as a user of Wikipedia, I believe the 'peacock' tag to be justified." And best of the season to you as well! Queenmomcat (talk) 17:05, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The author of this article has removed the "Peacock" tag, saying that I have not provided examples and therefore the tag is not justified. I could try again, but maybe I could impose on your good nature, asking you to do it instead. This is still a very gentle approach; I could be asking for the AfD efforts of some well known deletionists instead. --DThomsen8 (talk) 02:53, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WP:FOOD Needs You![edit]

Hi there Queenmomcat! I've noticed you have yourself listed as a member of the Food and Drink Wikiproject. Unfortunately it looks like the project has been slowly sliding into inactivity except for a couple of people. That makes me a sad potato, and nobody likes a sad potato amirite?

If you'd like to turn my frown upside down, can you do two small things?

First off, go here and add {{Tick}} (checkY) next to your name if you're still part of the project.

Second, go to the project talkpage and participate in a discussion about how to make the project more active, and how to go about making articles in our area of interest a lot better.

You don't want to make me cry, do you? Potatoes have a lot of eyes you know. So come on, join in! :)

Hi there. I wanted to drop you a note to see if you'd be interested in joining the Guild of Copy Editors July 2013 backlog elimination drive. In the past, you've been one of the biggest contributors to our drives, but I noticed you haven't participated recently. We've made lots of progress on the backlog, but have stalled out a bit recently. We need more help to keep pushing down the number of articles that still need copy editing. Guild of Copy Editors July 2013 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter
  • Participation: Out of 30 people who have signed up for this drive so far, 18 have participated. If you have signed up for the drive but have not yet participated, it isn't too late. If you haven't signed up for the drive, sign up now!
  • Progress report: Thus far we have reduced the number of May/June 2012 articles to just 124 articles, so we're on the right track. Unfortunately, for the first time in GOCE history, the number of articles in the backlog has actually gone up during this drive. While all participants are currently doing a fine job, we just don't have as many of them as we have had in the past. We have over 500 editors on our mailing list, but only 18 editors who have done a copy edit for the drive. If you're receiving this newsletter, it's because you have an interest in copy editing. Join the drive! Even if you only copy edit one article, it helps. Imagine how much progress we could make if everyone chipped in just one article.

GOCE December 2013 Blitz wrap-up and January Drive invitation[edit]

December Notes from the Guild of Copy Editors

The December blitz ran from December 8–14. The theme for this blitz was articles tied in some way to religion. Seven editors knocked out 20 articles over the course of the week. Our next blitz will be in February, with a theme to be determined. Feel free to make theme suggestions at the Guild talk page!

The January 2014 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in October and November 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2013. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in October and November 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there!

Coordinator election: Voting is open for candidates to serve as GOCE coordinators from 1 January through 30 June 2014. Voting will run until the end of December. For complete information, please have a look at the election page.
