Hi, as you may well have noticed, the article is currently nominated for GA. A few of us have been working on it recently, and we noted that you too have worked on it before. It will be great if you can help take a look at it and brush it up where necessary. Thanks, Chensiyuan 17:32, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi there! Thanks for your help in improving the article by removing POV and adding cats and tags. Cheers —Lesfer (t/c/@) 14:47, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, regarding the image, I seem to remember getting it from one of the Leeds united fan site's out there that I visited at some point, however obviously due to the fact I was born in 84 and it was taken in 73 I did not take the picture, apologies for adding the incorrect copyright at the time of adding. I presume it's more of a Creative Commons than anything else, but I don't know so tag it as requires.

Arsenal Tube Station

Last night you reverted the deletion of a paragraph of the Arsenal Tube Station stating that it was 'unexplained'. I had in fact started a discussion about the said paragraph and nobody answered so I went ahead and deleted it. The paragraph in question is outdated and of little value to the article. I would be gald to talk about it in greater detail on the Arsenal Tube Station discussion site. Cheers. (HighburyVanguard 23:20, 9 May 2007 (UTC))

Thanks for re-organising the page. It makes a lot more sense now. Also, if any of you (wikipedia) Arsenal fans need any photos of the Emirates or (even better) the old Arsenal stadium please let me know as I literally live next door to the ruins of what was once a great stadium ;) Also there is local opposition to Robert McAlpine's most recent bid to increase the number of 'units' being built at Highbury. Don't know if any of this is worth mentioning on the Highbury Stadium page...please advise. Cheers. (HighburyVanguard 01:06, 12 May 2007 (UTC))

Ainslee Wood F.C.

Last night you deleted the article on Ainslee Wood F.C. which i had been working on for 2days and it was near completion.

Why was this deleted. We are a ameatur football team based in London, England hoping to be entered into the Low Leagues of the English Game for the 2007/08 season.

I know we are a small club but that is no reason for deleting us from wikipedia. Please undelete us as soon as you can Thank you.

If it was copyright enfingmet that you have deleted us for then you have your facts all wrong as i have created everyimage on the site, and the arial view of our Pitch was taken from streetmap.com which is a public site for maps so i can remove that if necessary and add out own picture of the pitch.

From Everyone here at Ainslee Wood Footbal Club Thank you for taking time to read our views and we hope to see our article back on the main site soon

Articles on youth players

Dear Qwghlm. I strongly disagree with the criteria for notability of youth players as defined on the talk page of Gavin Hoyte and defended by you. I would suggest that:

1. Being a member of a youth international team (such as G. Hoyte, Fran Mérida and Nacer Barazite) merits notability in it's own right, or at least under under the criteria of athlete notability p2: "Competitors who have played or competed at the highest level in amateur sports" (or in analogy thereof).

2. Prominent members of important youth academies merits notability in the same way as above.

3. Very promising players can be notable because of their talent, regardless of if their talent has been realised or not. Even if their talent isn´t realised they still can be notable as "the talent that never delivered".

It can´t seriously be argued that a player who has made a couple of appearences for a League 2 team is more notable than a player such as Bojan Krkic, Giovani dos Santos, Fran Mérida etc wich most probably will be playing first team football (if not already be big stars) in just a couple of years. Look at the attention G. dos Santos' selection of national team or proposed transfer has attracted in the football community. Or look at Theo Walcott who was included in the english WC squad without having played for the Arsenal first team. He never played during the WC, so before his first team debut at Arsenal, was it only his appearences for Southampton in the Championship that merited an article about him? Surely not!

If the criteria for notability just is appearence for (any) first team then the criteria surely must be changed!

Please see the discussion page of Nacer Barazite or my talk page for further argumentation.

I'm not an experienced Wikipedia contributor so if any of my contributions have been unorthodox, no malice have been intended. With utmost respect / Sebisthlm 23:38, 14 May 2007 (UTC) ]]

Fran Merida

Hello - I think you shouldn't have deleted this page. First of all, it doesn't really satisfy G4 - quoting the policy, "A copy, by any title, of a page that was deleted via Articles for deletion or another XfD process, provided that the copy is substantially identical to the deleted version and that any revisions made clearly do not address the reasons for which the page was deleted."

But at any rate, I also argue that the player is notable. From Wikipedia:Notability (people): "A person is generably notable if they meet any of the following standards." I argue that he satisfies many of the criteria, including:

  • The person has been the subject of published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject. (the UEFA website)
  • The person has received significant recognized awards or honors. (he won the UEFA U-17 championship with Spain)
  • The person has demonstrable wide name recognition (I suppose this is disputable)
  • The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in their specific field. (again, we have an article aboue the UEFA U-17 Championship, and I should think winning the title is suitably notable)

So I see that you argue he does not satisfy "Competitors who have played in a fully professional league, or a competition of equivalent standing in a non-league sport such as swimming and tennis". However, my question is this - do you truly believe he is more notable than somebody who has made 1 appearance for a relegation battling club in League Two or the Conference National? For example, using only that one criterion, Adam Fry is notable, yet I argue that playing for the Spain U-17 side and for Arsenal Reserves is more notable than making 3 league appearances in the Isthmian Premier Division and the British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division. ugen64 06:47, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Arsenal page

1 If you mention the quadruple in the Ladies section, you should have mentioned all four trophies, which you didn't in the first edit. I'll admit that the current version is better than my initial entry, but the entry is now complete. I agree that most of the information about the ALFC ahould be on their own page.

2 The Arsenal page isn't yours and yours alone and I'll edit and add to it, along with the rest of the world if I want to!!

--Hydeblake 08:14, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

I agree - it IS for everyone and I agree that what is there now is better than my first edit. However, both uis us have improved what was there before. What I object to is being told not to edit something!--Hydeblake 08:45, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for your valuable input re the above article. I have made changes which I believe answer the concerns expressed and have therefore removed the tag you added. The only casualty was the bit about the personalised number plates, which will not flow with the rest of the article (I'm not a fan of elite reg numbers anyway, so it can stay out).

Thanks once again - if you see any further scope for improvement, make the change.

By the way, I don't assume ownership of articles as such - if you take a look at my user page, you'll see my philosophy ("I've started, so someone else can finish"). The vast majority of editor user pages list articles they have started, I am not new in doing this. If I thought articles were "mine", I'd probably have reverted your changes indignantly!

I do make the standard declaration on the talk page of any article I submit, though - whether you see it as advisable I don't know, but I want those who might decide to send it to AfD for whatever reason to know that I am serious about my contributions and not in the least frivolous. You have misinterpreted, so I will look at the wording of the declaration. Feedback on this point would also be beneficial. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 20:43, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I have amended my declaration for future use:

"I have followed all known conventions in submitting this article. I do not own the article of course, but I would be appreciative if you would notify me here or here, explaining rationale if you carry out extensive modification, or indeed if you nominate it for deletion."

Thanks very much for your time, and the flattery (I just write how I was taught at school - too many years ago now though!). Best wishes. Ref (chew)(do) 13:16, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Liverpool v Arsenal

I agree completely. God knows I've supported Arsenal in enough title races against Man U, so it's not in the same league as Liverpool's main rivalries. It deserves to be AfD'd. ArtVandelay13 20:10, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Derry City F.C.

Thanks for your help with the article. Unfortunately, I have exams within the next few days and will have to forget about any major editing for a short while. However, I'll be back at the start of June to take up where I left off. Cheers. Danny InvincibleTalk|Edits 14:25, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Did you really want to merge those templates? Perhaps they still render okay in Firefox but they look decidedly dodgy on IE7 now! The Rambling Man 15:09, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Agreed, they look terrible on my PC in IE7 but your adjustments were fine under Firefox on Mac OSX. Oh well, bless Microsoft. The Rambling Man 15:41, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Whooops, forgot to do a heading lol!

Hi Chris,

My name is Lucy and I am a free lance journalist living in Brighton and I have just uploaded my first Wiki article about a University football team which was unfortunately deleted by you! :( I'm sure I've done something silly to mean its not good enough, could you please tell me so I can correct it please, it took me hours to write!

Thanks,

Lucy xx.

P.s. Is it because there was no F.C. on the name? I was unsure whether to put it up or not. Whoops!

Articles that need watching

I didn't intend to open a discussion there. I misused the word "point". I should have used "suggestion". Also, I understood your point, it's just necessary a simple link to the Talk.

The Wembley Wizards

Hi Chris,
Sorry for this instrusion. You recently took part in a FAC review of the Scotland national football team article. You reckoned that a sentence about the Wembley Wizards read awkwardly. I added that sentence and I would hate to be responsible for spoiling the FA chances of an article that others have worked hard on for a long time. Better that the reference should be deleted.
I have put in a new, less abrupt version of the sentence. Could you see your way to taking another look at the article to see if it now scans better? And, if you do, can you leave your comment on the review page?
Also, I have added a new nickname in the infobox. I did this because another user had announced their intention to do so on the Discussion Page and I thought we had better do it quick so that FAC reviewers could evaluate that as well.
Cheers, and sorry to trouble you

I forgot!

Hi Chris,
Sorry to trouble you again. I forgot to mention in my previous post that if you find the sources given for The Bravehearts nickname unsatisfactory, another user has provided a selection of alternative sources on the Scotland team Discussion Page. I am pretty sure that others can also be found for The Tartan Army nickname if the ones cited are not strong enough. No need for you to reply to this post.

Programme cover fair use

Hi. As per a comment on the Middlesbrough F.C. peer review, it was suggested I ask you about the "validity of the fair use rationale on the image of the programme" on the Middlesbrough F.C. article. Is the use of this image acceptable? --Simmo676 10:13, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Scotland International Team Article

Hi Chris,
I wondered if there had been any progress with FAC review on this article? Whether it qualifies for Featured status or not seems to be hanging in the balance at the moment. As a fairly new WP user, I am especially concerned about this because one of my additions came as an issue up during the review. I am anxious to see whether the changes that I made are satisfactory.
Cheers, Conval 19:50, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Just a quick question about this article; are the top scorers listed in this article the club's top scorers in the league or in all competitions? - PeeJay 19:35, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

List of England international footballers (alphabetical)

Following discussions on Wikipedia:WikiProject Football it was decided to convert List of England international footballers (alphabetical) into a sortable table. I have started to build the table, but seem to have hit a limit on the number of templates that can be included. If the whole list was to be included in the table, there would be 1150+ entries in the list, each of which will have three columns sorted by date using the {{Dts}} template plus the subject's names being sorted using the {{sortname}} template.

I have read the article Wikipedia:Template limits but I must confess that most of it went straight over the top of my head! Am I attempting the impossible or can the limit be changed? If not do you have any suggestions?

I would appreciate any help or advice you can give. Thanks and best wishes. Daemonic Kangaroo 06:11, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I felt that the article has a base mininum of notability, so I declined the Speedy Delete on it. You may want to take the article to a full-fledged Articles for Deletion. SirFozzie 14:24, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

The source you cited is incorrect, as the date of the incident was 16 March 1976, not the 18th. The page did state this originally, but it got erroneously changed to the 14th earlier this year. Nick Cooper 22:10, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello! I hope you are feeling great. I totally agree with you that we should use British English for English related articles. However, I am having a minor disagreement with User:PeeJay2K3 over the use of British English. For example, the Manchester United F.C. article uses the term is instead of are in the opening sentence.
