En dashes in University articles

I saw that you recently went through and changed a large number of university articles that had been using hyphens in the article names to en or em dashes. While I am normally a stickler for typographical accuracy, in these cases, using dashes instead of hyphens virtually guarantees that nearly every editor who creates a link to those articles will (unless he or she is in the very small minority who actually checks for such things) be linking to a redirect page instead. It is my opinion that, in this case, the tradeoff between the absolute accuracy approach and the "close but imperfect" approach to naming articles should be in favor of the latter. – Swid ^{(talk | edits)} 05:41, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Milwaukee

RJN, What source do you have for not including the Combined Statistical Area data when such data is present. Have you ever been to the Milwaukee area? Racine is part of the metro area, since residents commute both ways, and since Racine taxpayers are paying for Miller Park. Take a drive from Downtown Racine to Downtown Milwaukee, (a distance of only 26 miles), and you never leave the urbanized area. I realize that the Census Bureau changed their definitions in 2000, but they included the CSA for instances where two or more metros make up one larger metro. deleted links to voxproperty.com

I posted some links to voxproperty.com on Houston neighborhood pages and found that they were all removed. I was not logged in as me, but as an IP (70.248.253.108). In reference to the request to add actual content to wikipedia, I agree, but voxproperty is a dynamically-updated site of property values. a) it's difficult and somewhat inappropriate to put detailed statistics on a wikipedia page, although that information may very well be interesting to wikipedia readers. Thus a reference with an external link seems appropriate. b) As properties sell and market values change, it is impossible to keep that information updated if it is entered manually on wikipedia. c) The statistics provided by voxproperty are unique to that site in my experience.

Hello RJN. I'm very sorry if I caused you any inconvenience over the antics of a user you know who I'm talking about. And I appreciate your boldness in reverting his edits. I hope I have done nothing wrong, and I don't intend any harm. I was just trying to defend Wikipedia's spirit of openness and discussion, and trying to revert any major changes that came without consensus. Again, I repeat, I don't believe I did anything wrong, and I hope you agree with me.

I have opened an inquiry on Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets, and I hope you can comment on them, if you please. Posting the message "A is a sockpuppet of B" will not get administrators' attention, I don't think.

I may be wrong, but I googled the "theory" of El paso being the largest bi-national metropolitain area in the world. Can you please show me a list or something that tells me the largest bi-national metropolitain area in the world? Multi-country metropolitan areas

There is a List of metropolitan areas that overlap multiple countries but does not have population statistics. The metropolitan areas list of World Gazetteer does include metro areas spanning multiple countries but I don't know how authoritative the site's metro area definitions are. Uptown

I think millions of Americans, real estate agents (commerical and residential), and local Houstonians use the term "Galleria" still, to describe the Post Oak area. "Uptown" is still very new. As in: "I live/work near the Galleria" is more common than "I live/work in Uptown". Don't you think the combined name helps clarify this? Historically, the term "Galleria" has been used. Uptown is newer and it seems like a term that's being promoted by the City moreso these days. ThanksYukirat 19:18, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Making useless edits after moves

You made some edits with the summary "Made second edit in order to prevent further move over redirect". Could you please not do that? It's a stupid kludge that exploits a shortcoming of the MediaWiki software in a futile attempt to enforce your new title, and it forces people to turn to admins for moves that should be trivial.
