I call it a mistake, I was messing around with that page that I came across. It isn't linked to anything and serves no purpose as it's redundant compared to the other Philmont Scout Ranch pages on this site. I must have accidently hit the wrong buttons, as my computer was lagging behind for a moment before I closed the page. It should probably be up for deletion anyway, perhaps I'll tag it soon. Beer cats

It has been suggested by User:BrianSmithson and supported by User:Syrthiss that the Beer and brewery categories should be renamed. This proposal has been supported and expanded by myself. The notion is that the regional categories should follow the format of "Beer and breweries in Africa" /Europe/Asia/North America/South America/Oceania. "Brewers and breweries" could also be renamed "Beer and breweries by region". And all the countries should also be renamed (and merged if needed) as, for example, "Beer and breweries of Germany", "Beer and breweries of Britain", "Beer and breweries of Poland". The word in each case would be beer rather than beers to allow for general articles on beer culture in each region as well as individual beers.

Merge Vote on Ultraviolet map

Hi I was thinking about taking this whole merge discussion in an entirely different direction. Instead of merging the info on the poorly named Ultraviolet map into the unfocused The DHARMA Initiative. How about we expand on Silentplanet's idea and create sub sections on known Hatches?

Remember the "The DHARMA Initiative" article is supposed to focus on what it is. Adding more information to "the Swan" only shows that this hatch should be expanded upon in another article. The title of this article after all is not "The DHARMA Hatches." To me it looks like we should put in some information about what exactly the DHARMA Initiative is. We should give some history on it maybe include the information on the film and then some brief information about the hatches and what they are. Hatches that we know more about like "The Swan" should have its own page that would then contain information such as "the Map", "The Timer", etc... I think that this is a more reasonable solution and would also make it a more logical solution as an encyclopedia article. Please let me know what you think (in your talk page)! Scouting article work

If you are getting this, it is because you do or did work on Scouting articles (see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Scouting#Participants_and_primary_areas_of_interest).

The DHARMA Initiative Split vote

I hope you don't mind a general reply to what most if not all of those opposed to the split on The DHARMA Initiative have said "we don't really have enough information on just the stations to justify an entire article just for the stations." I would like to point out that it is exactly the opposite, there is very little information about "The DHARMA Initiative" since everything seams to be about the stations. I decided that I'd see exactly how much of the article actually talked about the Initiative compared to the Stations. So I grabbed the sections that talk specifically about those subjects and I used the word counter found inside of MS Word to judge the content. Here is what I found:

Initiative focus on the page : These sections were the "intro" "History and purpose" & "Dr. Marvin Candle"

• Pages - 1
• Words - 242
• Characters (no spaces) - 1,309
• Characters (with spaces) - 1,544
• Paragraphs - 7
• Lines - 23

Stations focus on the page : Everything not in the Initiative focus, except for "Trivia" "References" & "External links" were included in the Stations.

• Pages - 4
• Words - 1,476
• Characters (no spaces) - 7,143
• Characters (with spaces) - 8,574
• Paragraphs - 46
• Lines - 132

The judgment that this page doesn't have a lot of info about the stations seams to be incorrect... the problem is that going by word count only (and almost exactly) 1/7th of the page actually talks about the Initiative while the rest of that 6/7th talks about the stations... This page is heavily focused on the stations and it should be acknowledged as such. So we have a choice to create a new article about the stations or re-name this article to reflect its focus!

The Long Con

Hi Radagast83,

The implications I'm referring to are the veiled references the creators of the show make to the possible overall plot. The idea of everything being a hallucination is a fairly common theory, and this reference should probably be included as a point of interest, since the book's inclusion in the shot was almost certainly purposeful. It's trivial, to be sure, but then that's why it's in the trivia section. :)

I do agree, though, that noting the similarities to The Third Policeman is unnecessary and could be removed without losing anything interesting. Dbratton 17:27, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Babylon 5

You seem to be removing large sections of the Babylon 5 article. While I thing that your work on citing the article is excellent, I would request that you please refrain from deleting such substantial passages without at least some discussion. I have discussed this. Look no further than Talk:Babylon_5#Theme_section_needs_major_overhaul. Others have pointed out the same problems. Most of the material that was removed IS Original Research. Over the last few days I've attempted to source anything from a reliable source that would give creedence to any of the information that exists on the World Wide Web. All of the material I've removed was either very unencylopedic (it may have been true, but has no place in the article), or was blatant Original Research. The IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED FOR WP:GA on the Talk page clearly states what needs to be done to "fix" the article so that it can return to the Good Article status. Sorry I missed the discussion, I'll check it out. However, I disagree strongly that elements such as accents and ethnicity have nothing to do with the show. Ivanova has a strong sub-plot that spans several episodes involving her Russian and Jewish heritage. This is a major element of the first season. Garibaldi is not as strongly ethnic, and I'd have little or no problem with shortening the reference to his ethnicity, but it's still a part of the show. Then there are the characters. Clearly the Mimbari and Centauri accents are diverse. This is of interest to the most casual observer, and is widely discussed in public forums with the show's creator, so why would we NOT mention it? Then there is the matter of the near-universal use of English by aliens. This is a central issue. It's a human station, and while B5 is a "neutral outpost", it is important to note that aliens feel the need to conduct most of their business (even amongst each other) in English.

You even removed the section on religion! Nothing plays a more central role in the show. Let me cite a few examples:

• Minbari religion which is displayed throughout the seasons (Delenn is a member of the religious caste, which comprises a third of their population) eventually dove-tails with the fate of the station's original commander and the primary conflicts of the third and fourth seasons as well as a civil war on Minbar.
• The entire episode of "The Parliament of Dreams" is about the religions of the various races, and spends the closing dealing with the diversity of human religions.
• There are at least three episodes that deal with the religious implications of medicine
• An entire human relgion is invented as back-story for the show (Foundationism).
• The aforementioned sub-plot with Ivonova is centered around her Jewish heritage.
• The commander in the first season discusses his upbringing by Jesuits several times.
• The Markab die as a race because of their religious beliefs.
• The Vorolons appear to every race as a quasi-deific figure from their own mythology, implying that they may be the origin of some human mythology.
• In the 5th season, a religious observance results in several characters meeting with the dead.

You are far better off marking sections that need citations or finding citations yourself than removing entire sections because you don't think they're central enough to the show. Doing so will improve the article, and require far less interference by authors who wish to retain the lost text. -Harmil 18:44, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

• Ivanova's heritage (outside the PSI Corps) was only notable in the first few episodes of the first season. As it is, it's more about her character development, and thusly better off in her own article (of which almost all that information appears).
• About Garabaldi: His ethnicity doesn't play a part at all, and thusly should not appear in the article (it is already included in his character's article). You're all but advocating the inclusion of any information of any character just because it "still a part of the show".
• "Clearly the Mimbari and Centauri accents are diverse." No, the point is it ISN'T clear to someone who isn't a fan of the show (no citations). That's the whole point.
• The "religion" section in question was part of some "truth seeker" section. Perhaps I should have put it in a different section, but mind you, since it was under "Love..." and didn't fit. I deleted it. Since you seem to have a grasp on the section, fix the section so it's verifiable, notable, and encylopedic.

Ok, that said, I want to thank you. Jeff Q's comments on Talk:Babylon 5 really made me appreciate the time and effort you've put into this page. In contrast to his "delete it and let someone who cares sort it out," attitude, yours is refreshing ;)

However, a few notes: there are four episodes that deal with Ivanova's ethnicity in the first season. The most critical come toward the end of the season (TKO and one other... name is on the B5 talk page if you want to check). Also, I'd agree when it comes ot Garibaldi. At most, we would just include a note along with the background blurb for each character (Sinclair was raised by Jesuits, Ivanova is from a Russian Jewish family, Garibaldi is from a Boston Italian family, etc.) but that might be on a characters sub-page where the characters are really the focus.

If you're going to complain that I'm not sourcing my talk page comments with respect to the Minbari, then I'm sorry, but I have limited time to dedicate to Wikipedia, and that's over the top.

Furhter, on your last point, the section was not about a "truth seeker", but "True Seekers", which is a phrase used repeatedly throughout the series by the Minbari to refer, not to LOVE per se, but to matters of the heart (which to the Minbari includes religion, philosophy, prophesy and this concept of true seeker, which can encompass certain kinds of love, but not typically purely romantic love). This is covered in seasons 1, 2 and 3 extensively. Just as a matter of reference, see "Grail" and "The War Prayer". The phrase was used out of context, however, and wasn't worth sourcing. Good point. Many of the articles say the same things in "so many words." I will go back and add any information that I may have mistakenly gone overboard with no merging. Sorry. Chaperonins and chaperones

Hello, I've reverted your merger of Chaperone into chaperonin. In my experience, chaperonins are a subset of the chaperones—the two terms are not synonymous. (Chaperonins are the chaperones which form multimeric complexes that encapsulate nascent proteins; not all chaperones do this.)

Be cautious if you want to do a bulk search and replace when you merge text, as well. Particularly when dealing with footnotes and references, you don't want to change the titles of documents in the article's references.

Finally, unless you're certain that the merge is appropriate – again, extra caution is called for in techical topics – make certain that both the subject and the target articles have had the appropriate tag ({{mergefrom}} or {{mergeto}} to give subject matter experts an opportunity to correct any problems. merge deletions

You seem to be deleting a lot of merge tags, including Strong cryptography and Cryptographically strong, with no explanations. The two i cited were even marked as minor edits. Can you explain what you are trying to do?--agr 18:48, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

The merge tags I've been removing are on articles that have either already been merged, or have (in the talk pages) conclusions that warrant an oppose to the merge (some from 3+ months prior). I'm trying to go through the backlog of proposed merge articles to figure out what still is in need of debate on the issue of merging, ones that have concluded against merging, and ones that have already been merged and the tags just haven't been removed. Unfortunately some articles don't seem to have much in terms of debate (with one or two people total chiming in on an article, but as already stated most seem to have stopped the discussion sometime in the summer, some with no further edits since before August, so in most respects the debate is done), others have already been completed months ago and no one bothered to remove the tags. I'll try to remmember to note this in the edit summary for the articles from now on. Radagast83 19:41, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Been trying to build the theme in fiction section using the Brain implant page rather than BCI because there's a hugh amount of overlap and the BCI page is already longer that wikipedia guidelines suggest is good. When making a brief article into a redirect, it is normal practice to enter into the remaining article any text that will be effectively deleted. If Erytheia as an island of Gades seems irrelevant to you in the context of the article Hesperides, that might have been a signal that turning an article with interwikis in three other languages into a redirect was a less-than-perfect idea. --Wetman 10:40, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

The information that currently resides here is a better version of what existed beforehand (if that can be believed). You caught me before I could go back and fix the text (which probably only got thrown into a translator from whatever language it was originally in to begin with) to actually make sense. Merging overall isn't that fun of a task, but it's gotta be done. Some are extremely easy, some are impossibly difficult without knowing what the heck the article is talking about. What I'm shocked about are some merge tags have been on articles for over a year. I just have been going through every article listed on the September month merge backlog one by one to see what to do (I got up to 'H' before I decided to go back and work on 'A','B', and 'C' in more detail). Laser scanning merge

I have restored an old version of the 3D scanner page that you have recently merged, destroing in this way your work. Sorry for that but your laudable merging action was done over a very vandalized version of the 3d scanner page, that removed 90% of the original content. Catholic Youth Work Article

Hello, I have to respectfully say that I disagree with your moves to merge together the Articles on Catholic Youth Work and Catholic Residential Youth Work. Catholic youth work is a wide area which involves millions of people worldwide and is worthy of its own article. Catholic Residential Youth Work is also a massive area which is very distinct within Catholic youth work and worthy of a separate article. It is a key area which differs significantly from other areas and is a profession upon which many practitioners of youth work solely concentrate.

There are a great many other areas of far narrower fields than Catholic Youth Work which merit their own articles. It's not as if Wiki is short of space!

May I ask, what your reasons for wanting to merge the articles are? May I ask what experience you have of Catholic Youth Work and specifically of Catholic residential youth work?

If such an inappropriate redirect is established again, I will instantly remove it and report the abuse to Wikipedia.

The reasons are clear enough, perhaps reading up on merging articles may be in order if you are unfamiliar with the process, it was an unopposed merge. No one objected and the tags were there for weeks (and I assume months). Accusing me of vandalism (in the edit history comments) is not very civil at all. What's with this edit? It appears you have "merged" two articles by redirecting MetroMedia Radio to Metromedia, but you did not incorporate any of the info from the redirected article into the existing article! Only when there isn't anything useful to merge. In regards to this article, the entire paragraph describing the history of the network exists as a multi-paragraph section in the article I merged it to. As far as I can tell it contains everything that existed in that article and has a greater level of detail. It appears the only thing I did miss (which I appologize for) is the external link. Your surprise merge on Flat Earth

I was quite surprised to see the merger of some material on Muslim discussions of the Flat Earth into the present Flat Earth discussion. Normally such mergers are preceded by a notice on both pages being considered for the merger, and a full discussion of the merger proposal.

There was already a discussion on Could you fill me in on where this material came from, as it dilutes the focus of an article which had reached "Good Article" status by defining itself around a historical issue of the debate over belief in the Flat Earth in medieval Europe.

I would prefer not to simply delete the material, but feel it does not belong in the present aricle and should be returned to its original source.

It shouldn't be quite a supprise, although it does seem to be that there may not have been a tag on one of the two pages. With that said, there was a debate which was ongoing from all the way back in August on the subject of merging (Talk:Muslim_flat-earth_theories#merge).

You're right about the European point-of-view of the article, and perhaps the article title should be renamed to be more accurate to the article's contents, or the article should include all forms of flat earth theories (worldview expansion). Radagast83 00:23, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Roman Cement

I notice you set this to redirect to "Cement" on 31st Dec. I suppose this is OK, since it is described (sketchily) in the Cement article. However, this produces a circularity, since many articles, including "Cement", currently wikilink to "Roman Cement" or "Roman cement". Either all these links need to be modified, or the separate article needs to be reinstated. Since there is controversy about the meaning of the term that doesn't really admit discussion in the general "Cement" article, there is some justification for keeping the separate title. I would have a go at writing this to a better standard than the previous article, if there were some hope of its staying put. What should we do? . . . . Please fill in edit summary field whenever possible

Hi Radagast83, I was looking at the history of the page International Movement Writing Alphabet, where I noticed that you made some edits without filling in the edit summary. I've been working on evaluating articles that have recently had templates or categories deleted, which may be caused by vandalism, but could also be well-meaning edits. The use of edit summaries, even if it's just one or two words, really help in determining whether a category deletion was made in good faith and if it should be reverted. In the future, please be sure to fill out the edit summary; for me, it was helpful to turn on the "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" option under User Preferences, Editing. Hey you recently removed some links for the digital poetry page...which were not spam but legitimate resources for digital poetry......so please readd those!

WABAC

I just noticed that at the end of last year you had merged the WABAC article into Mister Peabody. I recently noticed that the article for way back machine was redirected to internet archive which did not seem quite right; that rather misses the mark, IMHO. So I started to sketch an article on the wayback machine: User:Bdushaw/wayback, which is meant to discuss the WABAC machine, the use of the term in popular culture, and also as the internet archive machine. The plan is to replace way back machine with this article, then change the redirects for WABAC, wayback machine, etc. to aim at the new article. Seems to me there are plenty of references around, although I am working on the popular culture angle - the term is frequently used, of course, but where to find a decent reference for it... My concern with the redirect was that the meaning of the way back machine was being replaced by the internet archive tool. Anyways, I am writing for your opinion, advice, I hope the plan is o.k., etc. From the discusson of the merge in WABAC the problem seemed to have been apathy, rather than controversy. And it just occurred to me that, unlike the tardis (Mr. Dr. Who fan :) ), the WABAC machine can only travel back in time, and then back to the present. No travel to the future. It was an extremely simple fix, adding the references tag at the bottom of the article. Be careful how you use the word "my" in reference to articles, it's not your article: WP:OWN. In the future I'll triple check that there are actually ref tags in the article and include a corresponding reference tag before merging. Radagast83 02:41, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
