Copy edit notes[edit]

Thanks for your copy edit of Chengara as part of the GOCE's June blitz. I think your changes were all generally good. I took things a bit further, particularly with layout and tone. You can see my changes in this diff. Here are some notes:

  • Names with multiple initials should have the initials separated by a non-breaking space: N.N. Rajappan → N. N. Rajappan (MOS:INITIALS)
  • As this is an international encyclopedia, distances and other measurements should be given in metric and imperial units; this can be accomplished using Template:Convert.
  • The village enjoys a tropical climate and The best weather is from October to February are subjective, with tone issues for an encylopedia. We should just state the facts. Change enjoys → has and rephrase the second. I ended up rewriting that paragraph for cohesion.
  • Watch the acronyms, and expand them when possible.
  • Loanwords not common in non-specialized English (e.g.: panchayat) get italics (MOS:FOREIGNITALIC).
  • mid is not a complete word and needs to by hyphenated: mid summer vacation → mid-summer vacation. Note that this differs from midsummer, which is marked by the summer solstice.
  • The article lacked cohesion with 12 different L2 headers in the body; I tweaked the layout a bit and organized some of these as L3 headers.
  • There was redundancy with a list of worship centres under "Institutions" repeated in the prose under "Religion"; I removed the former
  • Keep in mind that section headers get sentence case: Tribal Agitations → Tribal agitations
  • The major service providers are [...] among others Major ... and others is generally redundant. For an encyclopedic summary just list the major points. By saying they are "major" indicates it is not an exhaustive list, and unnecessary to tag on "among others".
  • private buses satisfy the transportation needs to say they "satisfy" the needs is an opinion and needs a citation. However, because this is something that could be outdated anyways, better to rephrase so that it is a neutral statement without implying the buses are adequate or inadequate to the village's transportation needs.
  • Attachakal-Malayalapuzha road and Attachakal-Kumblampoika road if these are roads connecting Attachakal to Malayalapuzha and to Kumblampoika, then they should have an en dash in the name instead of a hyphen; the en dash indicates separation, as in a from/to relationship.
  • The tribal agitations section mostly describes past events and so needed to be in past tense. I tagged it for updating.

Extra stuff:

  • For the infobox, it's recommended to not use flags unless the subject has a strong national connection, as the graphic can give undue emphasis and violate neutrality (MOS:INFOBOXFLAG).
  • The infobox should only state the most important key information about the subject (MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE). I removed the zero km coastline as irrelevant.
  • The lead could be expanded to reflect the content of the article, but it probably isn't worthwhile when so much of the body is unsourced.

I think you did a really good job considering the quality of the article. Try to watch for some of the things I mentioned in your next copy edits. Pay attention to the details and you'll get the hang of it. – Reidgreg (talk) 16:27, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your advice! Some of those points I never realised, and about the tone and opinions, I guess I wasn't being bold enough to correct them. – RaincoatDance (talk) 16:57, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Reality shifting has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The article heavily relies on anecdotal evidence and social media trends as a basis for its claims. The fact that reality shifting gained popularity on platforms like TikTok does not inherently validate its legitimacy or make it worthy of an encyclopedic article. Without substantial scientific research or scholarly consensus supporting the existence or efficacy of reality shifting, the article lacks the necessary foundation to provide readers with accurate and reliable information. Also, the inclusion of outdated studies, such as the CIA's research on altered states of consciousness in the 1950s, does not contribute to the credibility of the topic in its present context. Neuroscience has made significant advancements since then, and it is crucial to prioritize contemporary research when discussing such topics.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
