Hyman's Handbook of Indianapolis describes the Indianapolis Saks and Company store, having been installed in the city since 1897. The parent store was in Washington DC and the only other store was in NYC in the "country-wide famous seven story building in busy Herold Square." Herold Square is on 34th street between 5th and 6th Ave. Saks was described as a clothier for men and boys only. They manufactured their own clothing to sell.
