Awan[edit]

Hi, Rawalpindi Express. I apologize for not providing any references. While I right now I don't have any direct ref. for the meaning of Awan being cultivator (apart from the fact that in many parts of Khybat Pakhtunkhwa, the word is synonymous to Jat: Jat meaning cultivator), I do have references for Awan meaning Helper:

http://books.google.com/books?id=LPsvytmN3mUC&pg=PA26&lpg=PA26&dq=awan+glossary&source=bl&ots=fPBek9TmcA&sig=upzIhVQJ9v8W3NhxTgPQpGuafGQ&hl=en&ei=NAmdTIngEYH2tgPemaHVAQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CCYQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q&f=false

http://reference.findtarget.com/search/Awan%20(Pakistan)/

I think these references should atleast be also included. Thanks. Zima FocusZiva Focus (talk)

Re: Awan[edit]

Thanks for getting in touch, Ziva. However, reference to ‘Awan’ meaning helper has already been made in the article, vis-à-vis, H.A. Rose’s remarks and the definition cited from the Ferozsons Urdu-English Dictionary. Rawalpindi Express (talk) 15:54, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Awan (Pakistan)[edit]

With regard to your comment "Please see the certificate reproduced in the photo gallery, which clearly makes reference to Zafar Hussain being an Awan – Altaf Hussain and Safdar Hussain were his sons.", it is not reasonable to expect the layman reader to jump to a full size version of the image to double check references. If you feel this document is a suitable source (presumably you have reason to believe there is no other "Zafar Hussain" this might relate to) then please clearly footnote it as such. Thanks, (talk) 16:35, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

With respect, I have to disagree with you, as regards your assertion that, “it is not reasonable to expect the layman reader to jump to a full size version of the image to double check references” – it is a view based upon suppositions, especially those being made in relation to the “laymen reader.” Moreover, a reference was requested verifying the Awan origins of Zafar Hussain, and I believe it is reasonable enough to reproduce a document issued by a representative of the British Raj, in order to confirm that the individual in question did indeed belong to the Awan community. Furthermore, I have no reason to believe that said document refers to any other individual named “Zafar Hussain” as the document itself, is taken from the article relating to Khan Sahib Qazi Zafar Hussain. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Awan (Pakistan) . Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Palltrast (talk) 06:38, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Awan (Kashmiri tribe)[edit]

Dear Sir, I have added a proposed deletion tag on the article Awan (Kashmiri tribe), as there is already an existing main article on this subject, and according to the observation of the administrator User:AjaxSmack, the correct title is Awan (tribe) per WP:DAB since there is only one tribe of that name.See talkpage of Awan (tribe). A section may be added in the main article about this branch of tribe. Moreover the contents of the article are not really encyclopedic and are against the facts. The Awan tribe never rebelled against the Pakistan Army. The Awan tribe is perhaps the most heavily recruited tribe for the Pakistan Army.

Re your article[edit]

Dear User:Rawalpindi Express, further to my comments on the Awan (tribe) talk page, I would again please like to warn you to be non-combative and cooperative and courteous in your discussions on Wikipedia. Thank you. Khani100 (talk) 00:09, 31 March 2012 (UTC)Khani100[reply]

Khani100, I have responded accordingly to the remarks you left on the talk page, dealing with the article, Awan (tribe). I consider myself to be a perfectly civil individual, and if you have expressed an opinion that there are times when my interactions with other editors is a cause for concern (though I reject your accusations, as I am entitled to, and if anything, I have only ever taken issue with others who have either attacked me on a personal level, or repeatedly altered the article in such a manner that it constitutes vandalism), then I would like to stress that I consider your attitude towards me to be quite patronising; I'm expressing my opinion (just as you have, and I have a right to), in a perfectly acceptable manner, so please do not take undue offence.

Regards
