Help me![edit]

Please help me with what to do with clippings from newspapers that cannot be located online. Can they be included somehow as pdf maybe?

Rayneet (talk) 01:45, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and welcome! Newspaper clippings are fine, please do not upload them as they are almost always copyrighted. Just include the article title, newspaper name, date and author and leave the url field blank. Then anyone who wants to check can look it up in a library or archive. It is less convenient, but we do understand that not everything is digitized. Happy editing! Happy Squirrel (talk) 02:12, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Lawrence Pitchko photo.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Lawrence Pitchko photo.jpg, which you've attributed to Lawrence Pitcko. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Diannaa (talk) 00:59, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help me![edit]

Please help me with 1)ideal number of pixels in a jpeg.

                   2) How do I put {{OTRS pending}} on an already uploaded file?

Rayneet (talk) 23:22, 3 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  1. That would depend on the specific image. If the image has been released under a free license, there's no reason to upload less than the full original resolution. If you want to create a new image, say by scanning a freely-licensed photo, I'd also opt for the highest resolution possible; the people over at the Graphics Lab may have more specific advice. Non-free images should be low-resolution, however, with no more than 100,000 pixels in total.
  2. I assume that's about File:Lawrence Pitchko photo.jpg. You can edit the file page just like any other page on Wikipedia via the "Edit" link at the top and add the template code in the "licensing" section. Huon (talk) 23:52, 3 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help me![edit]

Please help me with choice of free license for Lawrence Pitchko's phot. I want to explain to him why that choice.

Rayneet (talk) 18:05, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I assume that's File:Lawrence Pitchko photo.jpg? According to the information provided on that page, the photo has been released into the public domain by Lawrence Pitcko, and an email with evidence has been sent. If that's correct (and if Pitchko is indeed the copyright holder, which I'd consider rather surprising since the copyright would more likely be owned by either the photographer or the publisher of that concert programme, which probably wasn't Pitchko himself), then Pitchko already has made his choice and the image may now be re-used by everybody without any copyright-related restrictions whatsoever; no further licensing would serve any purpose.
If that statement is incorrect, it should be removed from the image page immediately. Wikipedia requires images of living persons to have been released under a free license that allows everybody to re-use and modify the image for any purpose, including commercial purposes. The license most commonly used is the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License which requires users of the image to attribute the author or licensor, and to publish derivative works under a similar license. Alternative licensing options are available, generally less restrictive than CC-BY-SA 3.0. But again, that would only be of any relevance if the information you provided on the file page is untrue. Hi Rayneet. If you are asking to have the image deleted while you consult him further, you can go to the file page, click the "edit" button at the top, and place the following code on the page to request that it be deleted: {{db-self}}. --Nick—Contact/Contribs 22:01, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please help me with...

Lawrence Pitchko file.jpg.

Hi,

I uploaded a jpg of Lawrence in June. Then I requested it to be removed while I consulted with him re license. Then we re-submitted the jpg on June 12 with the appropriate letter from Wiki Commons on Lawrence Pitchko's computer to say that he was the sole owner.

Is the jpg still accessible and how do I connect it to the article: Lawrence Pitchko?

Rayneet (talk) 16:35, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That would depend on what you mean by "re-submitted". Have you sent an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with the letter and the image? Have you received a reply, and if so, what did it say? For all I can tell the image hasn't been uploaded to the Commons. The deleted image on Wikipedia could be undeleted if permission is received, but since freely licensed images should be hosted on the Commons anyway, that's probably not what those dealing with the permission email will choose to do. The Picture Tutorial explains how to display the image in the article once it's uploaded (either to Wikipedia or the Commons; that doesn't make a difference). Huon (talk) 17:00, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) The image was located at File:Lawrence Pitchko photo.jpg but was subsequently deleted on July 11. I have access to the OTRS system and found the ticket number. I have placed the image at File:Lawrence Pitchko.jpg . Regards, Mkdwtalk 17:02, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
