I'm possibly the last person to ask for help on avoiding the article's deletion, since I'm the one who has tried (twice) to get it deleted! The best I can do is explain why I've taken this course of action and see if you can possibly do anything to improve the article's chance of remaining.

First, you might take a look at WP:5P to see what Wikipedia is. Note carefully that Wikipedia is not a publisher of original ideas (see what is meant by Original Research, or "OR").

You appear to be trying to publish an article which is directly about something you've invented yourself, which counts as OR. Being OR is an absolute ban on something being included — if Wikipedia had been around when Einstein invented the special theory of relativity E=Mc2 would not have been published as an article, unless someone else had published it first. This has nothing to do with the merit of the idea itself, you see, Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thoughts, ideas or works.

Again, there's a lot on Wikipedia about Harry Potter. If J K Rowling had tried in 1994 to publish an article about Hogwarts, that would have been listed for deletion as OR at that time. Three years later (the first Harry Potter book was published in 1997) an article could have been accepted.

This doesn't mean Wikipedia "gets it wrong". Wikipedia is an encyclopædia. As such it reports what already has been reported. Absolute criteria for inclusion are: no original research and verifiability — the subject of an article must have been reported by reliable sources already. There are also guidelines on notability (for instance my shoe size and the name of next door's dog are verifiable, but not in the least notable). Unfortunately none of the criteria seem to apply to Throval.

Please feel free to defend the article at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Throval, and please don't assume that nomination for deletion is any reflection on the merit of your invented world in itself! If they ever are published I'll look forward to reading your works.

Oh, another quick point. Please sign your edits on talk pages (but not on articles) by putting ~~~~ at the end. Thanks. Tonywalton  | Talk 01:33, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome (again)[edit]

Richie, welcome again to wikipedia. I'm sorry your early experience with Throval turned out to be not what you might have hoped. Please don't fret and don't worry that you are new here. Sometimes the best way to learn is to make mistakes and learn from them. Let me know if you have any questions by posting a message here or to my talk page. I'm happy to help with any questions or concerns you might have about wikipedia. Cheers!--Kchase T 08:49, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here's an idea - I assume since you're interested in creating fantasy fiction you also read a fair amount of it (I read a fair amount of it but have no creative talent at all). You could take a look at this and see if any of the literary Wikiprojects might be of interest. Regards, Tonywalton  | Talk 12:06, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
