Naturalization Act of 1790[edit]
People of African descent born in the U.S. were entitled to citizenship status based on the 14th Amendment of 1868 and the earlier Civil Rights Act of 1866. The Naturalization Act of 1870 only extended naturalization laws to people of African descent, and had nothing to do with existing jus soli laws.
