Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:13, 1 July 2018 (UTC)

GLAAD and Comics

Hi, I just wanted to thank you for the help with the GLAAD Award for Outstanding Comic Book. Got any suggestions on how to improve it? PanagiotisZois (talk) 16:40, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

My pleasure! I think you're doing a great job. It's a lot of work, and I'm grateful that you put it all together so well. Plus, I love it when we get more complete coverage of the GMAs. Have you found any sources that go into detail about the inclusion criteria or reasons that the committee nominated specific works? —Ringbang (talk) 17:18, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
Hmm. Well, you know, most of the sources I searched for were ones relating to the nominees and winners, and they didn't talk much about the process of nomination. I did however stumble upon one or two pages describing something along the lines of that; and I'm guessing that the same criteria exist for every medium (film, television, comics, etc.). PanagiotisZois (talk) 23:40, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
OK, I was able to find that article on GLAAD's website. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I transferred the information correctly. Could you give it a look when you're able? PanagiotisZois (talk) 14:39, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Request on 02:25:38, 13 August 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by ArenaOfKings

Hi, thanks for reviewing our page so quickly!

We would like to make all necessary changes on our article for approval (if that means reducing the amount of content on the page, so be it). We aren't sure which pieces of content requires sourcing compared to those that don't. Could you inform us on which pieces need to be removed due to invalid sourcing?

Thank you.

ArenaOfKings (talk) 02:25, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi!
Thanks for making your relationship to the game clear on your talk page. 👍 You scored points. For notability, the game must pass the general notability guideline. (Always remember WP:42.) Since the game is in early access, preliminary coverage will probably be insufficient per WP:SUSTAINED (WP:TOOSOON elaborates on this). Once the game has been out long enough to attract some reviews from reputable sources, cite those reviews in the article—even if they have negative things to say. Summarise reviews in a section called "Reception". We don't care if you get bad press, but we do care about how much press you have in total. The way to demonstrate notability is with reliable sources in inline citations, but please don't flood the page with low-quality references—it's counterproductive and it makes us sad.
The guidelines for articles about games are in item 3 of WP:NOTGUIDE (see also WP:NOTPROMO, item 5). The detailed descriptions of character classes should be removed, and the contents of the "Features" section should be a summary of maybe one or two paragraphs. (Write in encyclopedic tone.) The "Spells & Abilities" section and the first paragraph of the "Gameplay" section are the strongest in the article because they describe essential characteristics of the game in neutral language, and have an appropriate level of detail. Good job on those sections.
Good luck with the game,

Wiki Loves Pride 2018 at the Quatrefoil Library
Hello Ringbang!

We will be providing reference materials (including access to the EBSCO LGBT Life database), training for new editors, and refreshments. Check it out! = paul2520 (talk) 00:23, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
Hi Ringbang! We were sorry to miss you today. Hope to see you at future events. I would be very interested to continue our discussion on Wikipedian in Residence roles. = paul2520 (talk) 04:17, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
I was sorry to miss you guys, too, Paul! I looked forward to going ever since I first heard about it at the edit-a-thon at the Central Library, but I moved back west a little sooner than I'd previously planned. I want to help Quatrefoil however I can, and it would be great to talk with you about ways a WIR can benefit the library and the community. —Ringbang (talk) 20:24, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
Congrats on the move, but sorry to hear you're no longer based here! Yes, my thought would be to find/adapt a proposal for a WiR. Then we can figure out how to present it, and who might be a good fit. = paul2520 (talk) 14:25, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
I should have ended that with a call to action. So I read through this page on the Outreach Wiki. Seems like we could go for an unpaid, but formally recognized position. Unless you know of small grants that would fund something like this? Do you think we should develop a project proposal, and, once we've figured out who would be the [first] WiR candidate, I could propose it to our board?
I'm also thinking at some point, we might move this off talk pages and either into email or perhaps phone discussions. For now, this works. = paul2520 (talk) 18:32, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
That sounds great. I expect we would need two proposals: The first is for the board: it explains what a WiR is and how a WiR can benefit the Q specifically. It would also suggest events to bring people into the library. The second is a grant proposal to try to fund the position from outside sources. We can probably reuse a lot of material from the proposal to the board for the grant request.
I don't know how likely it is to secure a grant large enough to fund a full-time position for a year, but at the very least maybe we could garner enough to fund some events. As I see it, one of the most important reasons to fund this position is that Wikipedia is an important venue for teaching LGBTQIA history, and telling our stories. Obviously, Quatrefoil's research materials are invaluable here. (Have you seen the archive?) If the WiR is cast as historian and storyteller, there is so much potential for events that invite people to the library to hear these untold stories. As the WiR does their research, they're going to learn all kinds of interesting things, not all of which will make it into articles. Sometimes when I researched an LGBTQ topic for Wikipedia, I found a story behind the story that was not appropriate for the encyclopedia (because of WP:NOR and WP:NPOV), but which was really interesting and worth telling. —Ringbang (talk) 19:10, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

DYK for Mindy Alper

On 18 August 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mindy Alper, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Mindy Alper, the visual artist featured in Heaven Is a Traffic Jam on the 405, helped Mary Stuart Masterson prepare for her role as a mentally ill woman in the 1993 film Benny & Joon? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Mindy Alper. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Mindy Alper), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Alex Shih (talk) 00:02, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Why did these people steal our content?

We wrote this section https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Arena_of_Kings#Gameplay .. and then someone from Arena of Valor (a different game, in China) copied our text AND our art asset and listed it in their wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arena_of_Valor#Gameplay. What the hell? — Preceding unsigned comment added by IversonBLC (talkcontribs) 12:38, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

I see that an anonymous editor copied the "Gameplay" section from Draft:Arena of Kings, and that the same account made some other questionable edits around the same time. I deleted the copied section since the description is of a different game. However, copying with Wikipedia is permitted if the source is credited (WP:CWW describes how that works). The Creative Commons license you used when you published the image on Wikimedia Commons also allows reuse and modification. Use of images published with a fair-use rationale may be restricted to specific Wikipedia articles. Such images can be uploaded to Wikipedia, but any image submitted to Wikimedia Commons must have a free license. —Ringbang (talk) 17:56, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Aspera on Cloud Draft Publication

Hello Ringbang, hope all is well. My username is Ddvandestreek and I found your profile overviewing users that have made edits to Fast and Secure Protocol. I drafted an article titled Aspera on Cloud. Wikipedia is not publishing the article on grounds of G11, or appearing too promotional. I have extensively rewritten the article and still have not been approved to publish. I contacted the user who deleted the post and he recommended having a more established editor publish the article. If I were to send you the article, would you be able to do so? Thank you for your time.

Changes to Le_Bernardin

Hi There,

Not sure what the deal was, but I just reversed/edited out a (what seems to me to be...) a pretty big factual error in Le_Bernardin. La Liste is not a product of the French Foreign Ministry nor can I find any information that it ever was... Not sure where that fact came from (when I read that I was flabbergasted that a Government agency would publish or promote a list a ranking of world *anything*...)

I just wanted to bring it to your attention - not trying to ruffle feathers, but I did want to mention it in the spirit of Wikimedianess (I think that's a word I just invented, ha) since you seem to be a pretty active and beneficial editor :)

Here's the diff link - I sure hope I'm reading it right :)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. LA to FA 2022

LA to FA 2022

Dear Ringbang,

You're invited to a zoom call, taking place on February 11, with the goal of improving the article on Los Angeles to Featured article status! I often find it daunting to approach the Big Subjects on my own—so if you, like me, want a time to sit down with fellow dedicated editors and tackle something important and complex, this is the zoom for you! I, unfortunately, have no way to transmit snacks over zoom; but I trust you to exercise good judgement and discretion in selecting snacks of your own. Hope to see you there—if you're interested, add your name here!
