License tagging for Image:Playingwithmedievilcannons.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Playingwithmedievilcannons.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:06, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Playingwithmedievilcannons.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Playingwithmedievilcannons.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. new page[edit]

A tag has been placed on Cortex Command, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because it is an article about a certain website, blog, forum, or other web content that does not assert the importance or significance of that web location. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles, as well as notability guidelines for websites. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on Talk:Cortex Command. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Thanks. Xiahou 01:42, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do not remove the speedy tag by yourself. Thank you. bibliomaniac15 01:56, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I had no idea that I had, I was currently working on it and just saved it to the present state.

Eggishorn 18:27, 2 May 2007 (UTC) However, this has already been said above, and I still have no idea why my work is being constanly deleted, even though I put a hang on on the page and had a reason. It was a WIP, unless of course you're all too dense to realize what a WIP is.[reply]

An article that is in the procress of major reworking or in the process of creation is not unusual. That is not why the article was deleted. Games in a beta phase generally do not meet the notability guidelines for inclusion. You may want to read the general notability policy or the web content notability policy if you haven't already. It is up to the author(s) of an article to establish a claim of notability. As a further note, it is generally frowned upon to continually recreate deleted articles. There are options, however, to ensure that an article is not unjustly kept out. You can request the article or submit the article to deletion review. Eggishorn 20:31, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree Image:Balinor.JPG[edit]

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:Balinor.JPG, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. Please go to its page for more information if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Strangerer (Talk) 16:13, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to be too much of a hassle. In fact, our rule on Wikipedia is this: we allow copyrighted material, but only under very strict circumstances. If there can be any free equivalent, the fair use must be deleted. In fact, see this message from the founder Jimbo Wales: [1]. Hope that helps. However, I would encourage you to upload the file under {{Cc-by-2.5}} and to tag the file as such. Hope this helps. The Evil Spartan 00:00, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi, thanks for changing the license tag but could you also remove the statement "This picture is not allowed to be copied for one's use for any reason." which now contradicts the tag used. You might also want to remove you comment reacting to the PUI tagging as again it might confuse a user in future.. I've updated Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images to indicate that you've changed the license so the image shouldn't be deleted. Best wishes. Madmedea 14:55, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'll just get rid of that. Well, thanks.Ringwall 16:42, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed it from PUI and fixed the license properly, as you have now released the template under cc-by-2.5. The Evil Spartan 18:08, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orl Fane[edit]

I'm sorry but what right do you have do delete this page? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ringwall (talkcontribs).

I didn't delete the page. I redirected it to The Sword of Shannara. According to Wikipedia:Notability (fiction), minor characters should be covered in a list, and major characters could be covered in the main topic. The only situation in which a fictional character gets a separate article is when encyclopedic treatment of the character becomes too long for the main article. The Orl Fane article was not encyclopedic, as it consisted of solely in-universe information, a violation of Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction). Pagrashtak 20:45, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In my books, a redirect is essentially a deletion. If the article doesn't have the right standards for wikipedia, you edit it. A redirect is infernally pointless...if it's wrong fix it.Ringwall 21:14, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, in Wikipedia redirects and deletions are very different. Did you read Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) that I linked above? No amount of editing can create notability. It's not something that can be "fixed". Pagrashtak 21:27, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well then Why don't you fix the redirect and make a short comment in the sword of Shannara page? I shall chnage it (even though it contradicts with the rest of the sword of shannara page. Ringwall 19:46, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand what you mean by "fix the redirect". It seems to be working. Pagrashtak 21:03, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can't you change the redirect so that it jumps to a certain point on a page? I remember doing that with the elfstones redirects. Ringwall 18:13, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Stranded.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Stranded.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 20:52, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
