Template: Football player infobox could be used to obtain birth/death information

{{Football player infobox}} has entries called "dateofbirth" and "dateofdeath" which could be used to obtain birth/death information, like I did in this one. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:00, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

AWB would already find that info. Thanks Rjwilmsi 09:16, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
It should also catch this one. Template's original name is Ιnfobox Football biography. In the examples above AWB didn't add the birth cat. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:28, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
rev 5565 Done. Rjwilmsi 09:43, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. Any chance for releasing a new snapshot? :) -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:28, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
Reedy does the snapshots. Rjwilmsi 10:48, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
Done. Good job my system is rebuilt now ;) Reedy 00:20, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Any chance that AWB can handle these cases? Someone added tenths in this style i.e. commented out {{Birth date and age}} and {{Death date and age}} and added dates without commas. What is to be done: Add commas and add categories at the bottom. Only the latter would be ok for me as well. The articles I am discussing can be found in Category:Military personnel stubs. (sorry for the repeated messages). -- Magioladitis (talk) 08:59, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

That's the list of ones who now have a year of birth but no living status or date of death. I suppose they're dead, but I'll leave that to you to work out. There were no date comma fixes (based on that user's recent contribs). Rjwilmsi 09:41, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Cool. Thanks. List of last surviving World War I veterans by country gives us the answer if these people are still alive or dead. -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:14, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Yikes!

I appreciate the intent, but...yikes! AWB has been "fixing" references in the Olympic-Wallowa Lineament article in a manner I find quite distressing. Particularly, it finds what it thinks are duplicate references, then names one and replaces the other with a link (with the combined reference having the typical ^a b superscripts). While I agree there are some cases where this is a good idea, I must object to it here. Although I have a fair number of references which are identical in content, I deem the order and numbering to be of importance. If there is some deep-seated Wikipedia principle here I should like to hear about it. Otherwise, would you mind leaving the references alone? (Fixing the spelling is okay, as I leave plenty of lint to pick in that regard.) Thanks. - J. Johnson (JJ) (talk) 18:30, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

I second this comment. It is not helpful to switch to lettered instances when the article is already using shortened footnotes. Reverted changes to USRC Thomas Corwin (1876). Per WP policy please respect the choice of citation style employed by the first major contributor.Dankarl (talk) 20:22, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

The idea is simply to avoid duplication in the references list at the bottom of the article to aid readability. There's no change in 'citation style' (e.g. {{harv}} vs. {{cite book}}).Rjwilmsi 10:23, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Tropicana Las Vegas and Comedy Stop

Please be aware that I removed The Comedy Stop from the attractions section of the Tropicana Las Vegas InfoBox, this is due to the fact that The Comedy Stop was kicked out by Tropicana management over non-payment of rent. The Comedy Stop has since moved to a new location at the Sarhara Casino. Dancing is Forbidden (talk) 21:26, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

One more improvement for FixPeopleCategories

In this one, the birth date is stated in two places, but non is caught by AWB. -- Magioladitis (talk) 13:07, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Another type of publication typo

Some people have used "publication" when they meant "journal" rather than publisher. See this example. JackSchmidt (talk) 16:21, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

There's no "journal" field in {{cite web}}, whereas "publisher" exists in the majority of citation templates. Your edit was half a step backwards. Rjwilmsi 16:24, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing ibsn

It seems I had a typo in the template copy, which I propagated to numerous articles. Thanks for noticing and fixing. Dicklyon (talk) 19:57, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Stephano Sabetti Orphan page status

Hello Rjwilnsi!

As the creator editor of the Stephano Sabetti article, I recently saw your addition of the Orphan status to the article. I could use your assistance. I hesitate to insinuate myself into the articles others have created, for example, on Ramana Maharshi, by adding text and possibly upsetting the authors. How would you suggest I proceed? Maharshi, Krishnamurti, Lowen, Pierrakos, et al. were influences on his teachings, but though Sabetti has a following and has written much, he hasn't gained the household status of some of these others. Please advise. By the way, thanks for your editing corrections.

Thanks much (LEMspare (talk) 13:19, 6 November 2009 (UTC))

The Original Barnstar
For as long as I've been a Wikipedian, I've seen your name pop in in my watchlist on an regular basis, fixing typos, broken links, correcting cats, etc, etc. Today, I finally decided to give you a small token of my appreciation for your hundreds of thousands of conributions. Thank you and happy editing. Tiamuttalk 11:34, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Citation bot

The citation bot is buggy, and is deleting names of coauthors randomly. For instance, I believe you run the bot on this page [1] and it removed the names of Linial and Widgerson. --Robin (talk) 00:50, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Bug has already been fixed by bot's author here. Better to go directly to the bot owner on such issues. Rjwilmsi 08:35, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
I thought I'd just inform you of the bug in case you didn't know, since you've been running it on several pages. --Robin (talk) 15:11, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Your AWB edits

Hey. Please modify your AWB settings so that you won't be changing the interwiki sorting order from standard to non-standard (see Help:Interlanguage links#Sorting). Thanks, Prolog (talk) 19:19, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Can you explain further (example diff)? AWB is sorting those, which is supposed to be in compliance to the guidelines you cite. Thanks Rjwilmsi 20:50, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
I see what you mean. It seems I had a build error on my local SVN build of AWB. I'll go through my recent contribs to correct any errors (probably not more than 30 or so pages affected). Rjwilmsi 22:25, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
That was quick. Thanks for fixing it, Prolog (talk) 23:50, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Accessdate in pt.wiki

Hi. Check [2] and tell me what you think. Should we stop changing accessdate for pt.wiki or advice them to use it differently or..? -- Magioladitis (talk) 19:04, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

rev 5671 Restrict those changes to en-wiki. Rjwilmsi 22:25, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Remove spaces between references

Do we already implement this? I saw two suggestions. Rule: Delete white-space between references Replace: (<ref>|<ref )([^<]*)(</ref>|/>)\s(<ref>|</ref )([^<]*)(</ref>|/>) With: $1$2$3$4$5$6 # Remove spaces between references text = re.sub(r'(</ref>|<ref [^>]+?/>)[ ]+(<ref)', r'\1\2', text)

-- Magioladitis (talk) 23:31, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

We've currently got this. Rjwilmsi 10:54, 25 November 2009 (UTC):
    • remove any spaces between consecutive references -- WP:REFPUNC
    • ensure a space between a reference and text (reference within a paragraph) -- WP:REFPUNC
    • remove spaces between punctuation and references -- WP:REFPUNC

Delinking dates

I think we should resume delinking of dates in AWB as part of the GF. User:Full-date unlinking bot is already dealing with it and SmackBot will probably start doing the same. Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/SmackBot XXII. -- Magioladitis (talk) 00:58, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Let's get AWB 5.0 out the door first. Rjwilmsi 10:20, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
I concur, FWIW. I see near-zero resistance to de-linking of dates any longer, now that the initial poopstorm of knee-jerk reactions to any and all change has died down. Bots and AWB runs are changing articles en masse with no one freaking out about it any longer, so far as I've seen. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 18:20, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Redo AWB run

You may want to redo this AWB run. I had to revert the article back to a form that it was in in August, as the page had been mangled so badly by a vandal or utter cluebie that it couldn't really be practicably repaired manually. Your AWB edit was between the mangling and the reversion. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 18:20, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Wasn't talk header supposed to be move on the top?

Category:Cite web templates using unusual accessdate parameters

Are you the one fixing articles in Category:Cite web templates using unusual accessdate parameters? Debresser (talk) 20:26, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Rich Farnborough also. Rjwilmsi 08:50, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Rich told me he is not really active on it, so it is mainly you, I guess. I am the one who pushed the deprecation of these parameters. I was hoping for User:Happy-melon to use his bot, but he is otherwise occupied. Any hard cases that remain I'll take care of afterwards. Debresser (talk) 10:06, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
I have done some more of these, although I was asking for bot approval, it seems to take forever - there are mostly more complex ones now too. I have also started moving the category to Category:Pages containing cite templates with deprecated parameters. Rich Farmbrough, 15:08, 30 November 2009 (UTC).

citation fixes - pp.

When you are "fixing" citations with AWB you are removing pp. from the pages field in Cite journal. Cite Journal, unlike cite book etc does not automatically add pp. or p, to the pages field, so your edits are merely making the references harder to read. Please reconsider.Nigel Ish (talk) 23:35, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

That was news to me. Rather inconsistent template design. Never mind – rev 5698 don't apply "page=pp." to {{cite journal}}. Rjwilmsi 08:16, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
But see {{Page_numbers}} which handles adding p. or pp. or not as appropriate. Rich Farmbrough, 15:05, 30 November 2009 (UTC).

And actually

At = {{
          #if: {{{journal|{{{periodical|{{{magazine|{{{work|}}}}}}}}}}}}
          |{{{pages|{{{page|{{{at|}}}}}}}}}
          |{{
             #if: {{{page|}}}
             |p. {{{page}}}
             |{{
                #if: {{{pages|}}}
                |pp. {{{pages}}}
                |{{{at|}}}
              }}
           }}
        }}

Is from cite journal. Rich Farmbrough, 16:20, 30 November 2009 (UTC).

Fact

Concerning [4]. Since all redirects of Fact change to citation missing, what's the reason of that? We just need to implement it for citation missing or not? -- Magioladitis (talk) 19:47, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

The result will be the same either way. Rjwilmsi 20:33, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
