RjwilmsiBot

What criteria is RjwilmsiBot using to decide whether an article needs to have Persondata added? (My question is inspired by this edit in which the bot adds persondata to an article that is not about a person.) — Paul A (talk) 05:45, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

I believe the criteria is listed at the AWB general fixes page, and that your fix to add the required |background= parameter to {{Infobox musical artist}} will prevent the bot from adding Persondata in the future. GoingBatty (talk) 23:09, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
It was indeed the incorrect placement of the group_or_band value. Thanks Rjwilmsi 07:48, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
I also went through Category:Infobox musical artist with missing or invalid Background field and added the proper |background= value for all bands and ensembles. GoingBatty (talk) 01:02, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, it has been a few weeks since I cleaned up articles in the tracking category. Rjwilmsi 07:51, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

RjwilmsiBot request

Hello, I was just wondering, please could you run your RjwilmsiBot on the Bat'leth page? It's just that I've added a number of sources without CiteComplete and I think it would be a great help if you could run the bot on it. Thanks. The C of E. God Save The Queen! (talk) 19:39, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Done. Rjwilmsi 09:24, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. The C of E. God Save The Queen! (talk) 11:27, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

Greetings Rj, I notice that the list of Template redirects relating to talk pages is growing steady and I seem to recall a discussion that this functionality doesn't work with talk pages. I tested a few pages for some of the redirects that appear and it in fact does not seem to work if it is supposed too. Before I go deleting a chunk of template redirects off the page though I wanted to verify with you that its true. Thanks in advance for the help. Kumioko (talk) 17:08, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

Template redirects only run when article genfixes run, i.e. not on talk pages. It's explained in the template redirects overview at the top of the page. Rjwilmsi 17:43, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Got it. I didn't notice it was tied to Genfixes so thats good to know too. Thanks for the clarification. Kumioko (talk) 17:58, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

Cerberus Capital Management

I thought since you had worked on the article previously, you may be interested in protecting the page. User has disclosed a COI as an employee of the company and appears to be making a good-faith effort to make a decent article, however in the process they removed a substantial portion of well-cited controversial/negative information. PMC and PMID codes

Thanks for the changes made here. Most of those fixed the PMC ids and/or added missing PMIDs, which has really helped. A couple of things did seem to get broken, though, and I was wondering if you'd be willing to discuss how to fix things (I may need to cite things differently)?

  • (1) One of the changes replaced this url http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2345217/?page=3 with one automatically generated by the ID added to the template (producing this http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2345217/?tool=pmcentrez instead). Is there (a) a way to point to a specific page within a range of cited text (in this case page '3'), and (b) alert AWB users when they are making this sort of change (which they shouldn't really be doing unless they are aware of it). THe problem is probably with my citation style being wrong, but I'd prefer it if AWB users fixed or pointed that out, rather than stripping out the more specific URL, which was used for a reason.
  • (2) Some (at least one) of the changes involved introducing PMC ids for pdf documents (generally referred to as 'covers and back matter' within journals), and those links don't work. An example is this, which your edit introduced. So now, instead of a link to the PDF, the reader gets taken to a midway page where they can link onwards to the PDF, but that's not really ideal. Can you think of a way to fix that, and also to prevent that sort of 'fix' being made again?

Hope that's all clear and it can be sorted fairly simply. Thanks. Carcharoth (talk) 21:39, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Pages one is simple, I will add |pmc= but not remove |url= when a page parameter is present in the pubmed URL, I already keep |url= for |pmc= PDF links. 'Covers and back matter' is an unusual one: in that instance the title link is to the PDF from the |url=, the |pmc= is to the midway page as you say. I'll ask about this on the {{cite journal}} talk page to see what the pubmed experts think. Thanks Rjwilmsi 07:56, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. It would be nice to be able to distinguish between those who copied in an unnecessary page reference (sometimes by incorrect copying of the URL they were looking at at the time), and those who deliberately point to a specific page (as I was doing). I suspect the 'correct' solution is to have the page reference link being separate to the link to the citation (as generated by the PMC and/or PMID). Usually by using a page link parameter (if such exists). For the other matter, I'll join the discussion you started, as such 'covers and back matters' are generally bundles of small items and the correct way to reference an item within such bundles is another question I had. AWB changes

There are two feature requests that involve {{Wikify}} that I was hoping to bring to your attention. The second and newest request is entirely uncontroversial, and should assist the editors at Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikify. It can be found at Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Feature requests#Provide a reason parameter when tagging an article with Wikify The second request is a bit more controversial, but I would like to see your input. It can be found at Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Feature requests#Request to change rules to add/remove Wikify tag. Thanks for your assistance, Ryan Vesey Review me! 17:50, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

ClueBot NG / Obama birther vandalism

Hi. Would it be feasible to have ClueBot NG watch pages like Natural-born-citizen clause and Barack Obama citizenship conspiracy theories for people who change the text to say that Barack Obama was born in Kenya? (For example, this and this recent activity.) If so, how would I go about bringing it to the right people's attention? — Richwales 22:59, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I don't operate the excellent ClueBot NG, so I suggest you start off on the bot's talk page. Thanks Rjwilmsi 06:07, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Actually, I did go to the bot's talk page, and also its user page, but I couldn't find any link there to a way to request new filters (including not finding anything about this on the FAQ page). I decided to ask you because you were listed on the bot's "ReviewInterface/Stats" page as one of the main users. Sorry for disturbing you needlessly; I guess I'll try posting my question on the bot's talk page. — Richwales 06:37, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Cite URLs

Hi there. I noticed that you removed the URL from a journal citation in List of Vegetable Oils. Given that the link appears to be valid, could I ask why you removed it? Is there some policy or guideline that I'm unaware of? Waitak (talk) 23:41, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

It's standard practice to give the pubmed number using |pmid= rather than |url= directly, as already done in refs 50, 59, 71, 81 for example on that article. The objective is to only link the title to a free full text source if available identifiers don't provide that. Thanks Rjwilmsi 06:10, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification. Waitak (talk) 12:38, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

infobox newspaper

In the article Miami Herald you changed the paramater "website" to "work"? Why did you do this? GroveGuy (talk) 22:51, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Unclosed cite template in the line above caused the problem, now fixed. Rjwilmsi 04:54, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Tropical plants

Hello, How are you? I need your help. I thank you your help in the articles. I ask you: Can you find more people willing writing in tropical trees, genera and families? I ask you if you could enlarge some articles making better known this group of trees in Wikipedia, adding links to genera and families and writing information and asking people if they are interested in writing about topics as tropical trees articles, tropical forest articles or botanical or biodiversity articles. Do you know Wikipedia forums that could be interested about these type of articles? They are welcome too. I thank you very much.

I am from Spain and my mother language is not English language. Many country side areas, and Natural areas and Living beings are in Countries where population cannot collaborate with Wikipedia, but their Natural World and its highly economically valuable species are very important too in the human knowledge and developtment of the mankind. People should have information because these matters are important, not just a curiosity only. This unknow world is from Poles to ecuator, in unoccupied oceanic areas closely to Europe, in Deserts as Sahara, or whatever. But to me the main aim is to gather the abundant information disperse about living communities and living beings that have existed for millions of years because they are disappearing and in 20 years they will are not longer exist. Bad bot edit

[1]

Not sure what the bot was trying to do, but I'm pretty sure that it was not supposed to blank redirects. - TexasAndroid (talk) 21:23, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. It worked the second time. There seems to be a very occasional AWB or MediaWiki API problem that causes page blanking. Rjwilmsi 21:46, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
I put an additional check in HPB before it saves, and it has not recurred. Still not sure that solves it, but I am certain there is a MediaWiki bug, since the same problem occurs with completely different code, and non-reproducibly. If it does not, the only option (apart from saying it's extremely rare) is to check the edit afterwards and unwind it if it's blanking. Rich Farmbrough, 23:55, 31 May 2012 (UTC).
