Question regarding AWB

Hi. I am currently seeking some help on using AWB (still learning =P) on a Wikia project. There seems to be many folks here who know a lot about it and you seem to be one of them. Do you know of a way to remove template coding from a page and leave no blank line behind? I've been using the normal find and replace function but I can't figure out a way to do this. Is there perhaps a regex fix for this? Thanks for any help forthcoming. AnnicAllus (Talk) 01:58, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Well, there are quick and dirty ways and proper ways. If the template doesn't itself nest other templates, then regex find {{[^{}]+}}\s* and replace with nothing should do it as a quick solution. Rjwilmsi 12:53, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

Very helpful, thanks--every little bit that makes a page loads faster is good. Drmies (talk) 17:22, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

No problem. You could also use the new "thank" link for such notices. Rjwilmsi 12:55, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

Hossam Mohammed Amin

Hi, recently edits claiming that WMD were found extensively in Iraq and the guilt of Hossam Mohammed Amin have been added to Hossam Mohammed Amin. Since I noticed you have edited this article in the past, perhaps you would be interested in helping to resolve the BLP issue.--I am One of Many (talk) 17:47, 6 June 2013 (UTC)

Dear stalker :-)

I got your point. But... have you got any alternative regex in mind? Or maybe a "group of regexes" that may accomplish to that job? I tried to think a bout it but I haven't got any brillant idea. I've thought that maybe the In template option of AWB may help (see the other messages of mine), but I don't know exactly how it works. Let me know, --Andyrom75 (talk) 17:49, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

So you want to move the quickbar family of templates to the top of the article? So why don't you skip the page if it starts with quickbar e.g. ^{{Quickbar and only apply the regex if it doesn't? This might solve your immediate problem, but in the bigger picture your regex applied over a long string is likely to backtrack a lot. A better approach would be to find all the matches, remove them from the text, then build the desired string back up again, so you'd need to write a Custom Module rather than just a set of find & replace regexes. This is a limitation of regexes rather than AWB. Rjwilmsi 12:46, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
I've already skipped the pages that "do not need to be touched". But the problem, as you have underlined, is on the backtrack. Could you make me a practial example of what you have said in the second part of your explanation? Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 21:23, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
See MoveDablinks for an example function to move a set of templates to the top of the article. Rjwilmsi 17:36, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
