Hello I must have another account under my real name Robert Kluijver (I once contributed a post about the Rabatak Inscription in Afghanistan) but I lost account information such as password. Still I would prefer to use my name RobertK Prods which indeed refers to my one-person registered company RobertK Productions, because I'm using this account to test how my students can post their articles online. Let me know if you rather have me do it under my previous Wiki ID. RobertK Prods (talk) 09:18, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Teahouse talkback: you've got messages![edit]

Hello, RobertK Prods. Your question has been answered at the Teahouse Q&A board. Feel free to reply there!
Please note that all old questions are archived after 2-3 days of inactivity. Message added by Yunshui  13:19, 21 February 2013 (UTC). (You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{teahouse talkback}} template).[reply]

Additionally...[edit]

I didn't mention this at the Teahouse becuase it's not universally relevant, but if you're part of the Wikipedia Education Project (and if you're teaching students through Wikipedia, you should be), you may also find Special:MyCourses useful; it will log student edits for any WEP courses you're signed up to. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ibrahim Quraishi's Family Portraits requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that your page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Mean as custard (talk) 14:39, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WEP, again[edit]

Robert, please give some serious though to running your course through the Education Program. Your recent deleted edits show that you clearly don't have a sufficient understanding of how Wikipedia works to be able to instruct others in its use, and any attempt you make to run such a project on your own is likely to end badly for all concerned - your students will end up making numerous mistakes, be frustrated by having their work deleted, and if they don't end up blocked, will give up because Wikipedia is "too hard". We'll waste time clearing up after them, and lose potentially valuable contributors because their first experiences here were negative. No-one wins. We are here to help - if you want to run a course here, please use the facilities available for doing so. I can't stress this enough: we want to help, but we can't if you don't let us. Yunshui  22:20, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yunshui, sorry first of all for not replying earlier. So many things came in between, and your comment made me aware of the fact I must still learn so much about Wikipedia first. True, the page I tried to upload was a pure test made with cut/paste of an almost random document I had, I did not intend to leave it online. The speedy deletion was no surprise, except that it was so speedy.
Anyhow, this week I will plunge into Wikipedia and its modalities, and very likely follow your advice of running it through the Education Program. Thank you for your guidance, I will certainly revert to you. RobertK Prods (talk) 14:00, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to hear you're giving the WEP some consideration. I'd recommend talking to User:Sage Ross (WMF) about it, since he's one of the program's most active co-ordinators. Let me know if I can be of any help. Yunshui  14:08, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of old accounts[edit]

Assuming that you are the same person that previously edited as User:Robert Kluijver, please could you link your accounts, per the instructions at WP:SOCK#NOTIFY. Regards, Yunshui  14:05, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

But this User page does not exist, apparently. Should I create it, to link it afterwards? Please advise RobertK Prods (talk) 10:16, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You could create it with some text like, "This is a previous/alternate account of User:RobertK Prods" (though I wouldn't recommend using it as an alt account unless you're very sure that you have a legitimate reason for doing so - if I were you I'd simply redirect the userpage and talkpage to your current userpage and talkpage, and leave it at that). Yunshui  10:36, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yunshui, would it be difficult to make my Robert KIuijver account my main one? So: move my UserPage and talk etc from RobertK Prods to Robert Kluijver? That account was almost empty anyhow, the only thing I did with it was write the article about the Rabatak inscription. In the future I rather operate within the WP community under my personal than under my company name.RobertK Prods (talk) 20:58, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Robert. I've added a notice to your userpage at this account User:RobertK Prods that it is an alternative account. You may now edit with your "main account" User:Robert Kluijver. To make it your "main account", you primarily edit with that account instead of this one. Cheers.Smallman12q (talk) 00:41, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
thanks, I will now make a fresh start from my "main account". By the way, where's a useful resource to understand why almost everyone in the Wiki-community seems to go under pseudonyms? I seem to be one of the only exceptions, can't really see why anybody would want to hide their real identity when contributing to Wikipedia.RobertK Prods (talk) 01:12, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Pseudonymity has to do with identity in cyberculture. Online (on the internet and prior networked computer systems), users often use pseudonyms (except for facebook) when making comments, posts, blogs, etc. As the wiki is online and its early users were very tech-oriented, this carried over. Pseudonyms provide a certain level of privacy so that users won't be harassed in real-life for editing certain articles or making certain comments promoting the online disinhibition effect. The use of pseudonyms lowers accountability in that it limits real-life repercussions/benefits, but also in that it levels the field in the sense the On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog. Also, why not be called whatever you want=P. Some people who do choose to put up their real life credentials use pseudonyms for these reasons. Citizendium is a somewhat similar project to Wikipedia where real life credentials were required. Relevant wiki policies, essays at WP:REALNAME, WP:ANONYMOUS, WP:PRIVACY. Hope that answers you question. Thanks for the barnstar. Cheers.Smallman12q (talk) 02:33, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
