Reliable sources[edit]

Hello. I wanted to explain why I reverted your edit to House of Wax (2005 film). On Wikipedia, contentious statements, such as awards and nominations, need to be cited to a reliable source. Random websites, especially ones that source their content from Wikipedia, are not reliable. If you look at the bottom of the page that you cited, it says that it gets its content from Wikipedia. Per our policy on sourcing, we can't cite this source. A reliable source has editorial control, a history of fact-checking, and employs professional journalists. The first thing you should do before you cite a source is look for an "about us" page and see if it lists an editor-in-chief. If it doesn't, it's probably self-published. One generally safe way to avoid citing self-published websites is to stick to newspapers and magazines, such as the Los Angeles Times and Variety. WikiProject Film has a list of vetted sources that it considers reliable; please note that the IMDb is specifically considered unreliable. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 19:05, 5 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
