Your reference in the Rosa gymnocarpa article[edit]

Hi, RoenTree. Others beat me to answering your question at the Teahouse. I check user contributions so my answer can be as specific as possible. The reference you provided in your edit of Rosa gymnocarpa was what Wikipedians call a bare URL. Bare URLs are subject to link rot. Avoid using bare URLs by adding full citations.

There's lots of detail about citing sources available including a beginner's guide but the video at the right shows the easiest way. Use the RefTool and your citations will almost always be good. Before you view the video, hover your mouse over the thumbnail and click on full screen, then start it.

I'm among those who believes the cliche "Give a man a fish... Teach a man to fish" so I prefer to let you fix the reference even though I could have fixed it. When you go back to the Rosa gymnocarpa article, click the View history too. A wikiBot helped out, too. It's all part of learning about Wikipedia. Using the RefTool or citation templates will quickly become almost automatic.

Howdy, RoenTree. Experienced editor Pluma created a page of Fun Stuff(<=click on it) for his adoptees. He's too busy to take on adoptees right now but you can check out the page yourself. If you create a user page for yourself. your signature will turn from red to blue. To see how others' user pages look, click on their name in their signature. To see how they made their user page look that way, click the edit tab. It's generally impolite to edit another user's page but you can borrow any of the wikicode that they used to decorate your own page. Creating your own user page is good practice in wiki-editing, too.
