Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer be able to have them marked as minor by default. For more information on what a minor edit is, see WP:MINOR or feel to get in touch.

Carbonic acid

Hi there

I saw your comment. Carbonic acid and carbonates (as well as cyanides and HCN, but not carbon monoxide complexes) are traditionally considered inorganic. I think you were going for "contain C-H bonds" rather than simply containing C & H. But that definition excludes things like carbon tetrachloride or oxalic acid (both of which are usually considered organic). Defining organic and inorganic compounds by strict definitions is difficult, and to many chemists, it's a case of "I know it when I see it". KClO₄

Oftentimes, salts are referred to as the following format: acid, cation. For example, potassium perchlorate can be referred to as "perchloric acid, potassium salt". Oftentimes, various industries or applications use unusual terms for chemical compounds. For example, in the pharmaceutical world, potassium perchlorate can be referred to as "peroidin". I realize these names might seem "absurd" or "unknown" to various readers who are not experts in the area. Seems kinda strange to me too, but Wikipedia strives to be inclusive, not just to chemical specialists but to a wide spectrum of folks. KClO₄

Oh, I see what you're saying. OK. Perhaps a comma between the acid and the salt would make that clearer? Or perhaps some other linguistic/syntactic jiggery-pokery? It looks like my edit was more along the lines of a misunderstanding than anything else. I'll admit that KClO4 is definitely a salt of HClO4.

I was unaware that the pharmaceutical world called it peroidin. I did a web search on that and came up more confused than anything else. Perhaps my google-foo was off this morning.

Thanks for the info.

Side note: I really need to knock off the war of words words. 'Absurd' wasn't necessary, especially when 'confusing' would have been much more accurate. "Potassium Salt of Perchloric Acid" would have made a world of difference.

Problem with your custom signature

You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your preferences are set to interpret your custom signature as wikitext. However, your current custom signature does not contain any wikitext.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:

1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box. (It might already be empty.)
4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)

Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:

1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
3. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page.
