German Railway Society - undeletion please

The German Railway Society page was deleted by you on, 20 May 2014 23:55. I respectfully request that you undelete this page please.

Thank you for your kind assistance.

86.149.179.236 (talk) 14:00, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

You have a choice...
  1. Restore - but the page as it is, will never survive a full deletion system - thus if I undelete, it will last just 7 days and then cannot be restored.
  2. Userfy - I would need a user name to restore it to a draft sub page of the user, so that it can be worked on.
Let me know what you want. We cannot userfy to IP addresses Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:26, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

Dear Ronhjones, Thank you for your message, but I don't understand why it was deleted in the first place, maybe you could explain why you deleted it please. The German Railway Society was formed 33 years ago and is still in existence. I would be very grateful if you could explain what work the page needs before I decide on a suitable course of action. Thank you for your kind assistance. Kind regards, Angie86.149.177.172 (talk) 20:42, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

"It is proposed that this article be deleted because of the following concern: No assertion of group notability, no references or third party source discussion found" - proposed by User:LFaraone. There are only two references - both link to pages on http://www.grs-uk.org/ - which is no good for showing notability. It needs good independent reliable sources Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:07, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

I just declined the draft above (not yours!), I sort of felt it was premature, but as you are clearly familiar with the topic (you created the 2016 article), if you want to accept it or build and accept it, I'd have no concerns. Best, --j⚛e deckertalk 06:24, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Please don't create this article yet - it's way too early. Even the 2016 article is constantly having to be reverted due to the addition of unsourced speculation. I don't see anything in the 2017 draft to warrant the article's creation at this point. DH85868993 (talk) 08:15, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
@Joe Decker and DH85868993: I agree way too early - yes I have created such pages in the past (the 2015 page as well, and some MotoGP season pages) - I wait for some unique new changes for that year to be confirmed - which inevitably tends to be around 18 months before the season starts - thus some rule changes will often come out June/July (if there are major rule changes then they can come out much earlier - as the teams need to know that well in advance). The Draft is noting useful - just mainly a list of contacts expiring, or reiterating the status quo - we don't make a page with what is going to expire (otherwise we could do pages for the next 15 years, until Silverstone contact's expires!), unless we know and can verify what is replaced / has been renewed. Personally, I think it should be deleted as WP:CRYSTAL - can we do that with Drafts?...WP:MfD? Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:53, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
Cool, I just know this isn't my subject matter area, and sometimes y'all have better sources. Anyway, right now the draft is declined, and it isn't going into main space. As it sits it'll probably be G13'd in 6 months. While it's technically eligible to be considered at MfD, since it's in not in main space (and therefore isn't really causing much trouble), I wouldn't worry too much about it. --j⚛e deckertalk 20:21, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Template:Vote delete, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. I already tagged this image as being in the public domain, the rationale being that combinations of public domain artwork and simple text cannot be copyrighted in the United States (where the author of this logo is based). – Minh Nguyễn 💬 03:55, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

The PD-logo you have added is just fine - it nicely separates it from the text element. It had a "move to commons" banner - I like to ensure that it's not going to get moved to commons (in say 6 months - never quick) and deleted one days later! Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:52, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

Understanding the use of photos

Hi Ron,

I saw that you had left me a few messages regarding the photos I had uploaded and I am a little confused in how to properly label them. I am acting as an administrator for the company on the files in question and am hoping you can help me with these legal definitions.

Both of these photos were taken by me on behalf of the company. Although not copyrighted I would consider them the property of the comapny. With the file: Lakeland Credit Union Cold Lake Branch being as it is a photo of our building should I just transfer that to 'fair use'?

Replaceable fair use File:LCU Friends of Education Award.jpg Replaceable fair use File:Lakeland Credit Union Cold Lake Branch.jpg

I hope you can help me!

Thank you,

JB

Abstraction87 (talk) 16:40, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

Just rudely butting in here, but does the company feel like freely licensing the photographs which you took for it? If so, fair use is the wrong approach, and instead you should look at Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries. (And given the circumstances involved, you might be a sufficient representative of the company to say that it wants to do so.)
Ron may have more detailed advice, especially if I'm misunderstanding the situation. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:36, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
@Abstraction87: OK, everyone thinks copyright does not apply to them - all wrong. Copyright is automatic as soon as the picture is taken - it defaults to "All Rights Reserved" - all down to the Berne Convention, which the US finally joined in 1989. Copyright length will depend of where it got published first - if US will last for 70 years past the death of the copyright holder. If taking the photos was part of your job at Lakeland Credit Union, then I would expect Lakeland Credit Union to hold the copyright - depends on your contract of work. Since Companies don't die then the copyright term is 95 years from publication or 120 years from creation whichever is shorter. See List_of_countries'_copyright_lengths for other countries.
Fair use won't work as it's "replaceable" by a free image - anyone can take a picture.
Your main choices are either...
  1. Take a photo as a private person and upload - use Template:Information (with {{own}} as the source) and something like {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} as a license.
  2. Follow the instructions at WP:DCM to donate the copyright
  3. Put the image on the company's web site with a statement to the fact "This image is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License." Note that the page does not have to be as part of the main site, it can be an orphan page, so long as it has a url we can check.
Hope that gives you a better explanation. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:22, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
P.S. Also remember that if your ever use fair use, the image has to be less than 100,000 pixels and low resolution - you don't get a good image when it's that small. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:29, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

Dear Sir:

At this moment in time, I am very upset that you have deleted my photo of my father that was beautifully placed on the Alonzo Conant Wikipedia page. Could you please take a moment to look into this...

I'm sure your reason for devoting so much time and effort to Wiki is the same as mine. Hopefully you can help me. I'm frustrated trying to deal with an editor and my attempts to get help haven't worked. If you have a moment please look at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dragonrap2. Many of us have put a lot of work into the Mississippi and Louisiana articles, and this editor has been difficult. I'm not sure if it's vandalism or competence. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 16:51, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

I've not played around with sorting out socks - yet another learning curve and never enough time. You need to use the correct warnings, then after level 4 you can go to AIV - warnings are at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace or better still enable Twinkle, which will revert and give you a choice of warnings to add. I've added level 3, so that should make it a bit easier for you. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:16, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
Hi there. I figured I'd skip the warning if it's a sock. Plenty of warning on the old account. I'll see where the sockpuppet investigation gets me. Thanks for looking into this and have a great weekend. Magnolia677 (talk) 20:38, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

Dear Ronhjones.

I don’t understand how Wikipedia finds time to investigate and delete images, and not find the time to connect the dots. This is an article about Mart Sander. I am Mart Sander. I have painted my self-portrait, of me. I have taken a photo, with my camera, of my self-portrait, which is copyrighted to me, Mart Sander, and have added this picture to the Wikipedia article about Mart Sander, myself. I, as an author, gave myself full permission to use this self-portrait of me, which I, Mart Sander, have painted of myself and have photographed personally, as an illustration about the art of Mart Sander on the article about Mart Sander, which is myself.

The above is true about the other pictures illustrating the article and showing my paintings – the paintings which I, Mart Sander, have painted, hold the copyright of, and have photographed, thus holding the copyright of the photos and having my own permission to use these pictures, as authorized by the author, Mart Sander, i.e. me.

I sincerely hope this settles the problem once and for all.

Best, Mart Sander, the author and the copyright holder.

@Zanderz: As I said on your talk page - the only way you will be able to get these images up is to use WP:DCM to clearly show you have permission to upload them - there is no way within these pages alone to do that. If I don't tag them then someone else will - that's just the way if works here. Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:05, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

Ron, I now understand better your block of User:Peacemaker67. However, he has made an unblock request that I think should be accepted. I've put the request on hold while I await your input. I think the most serious thing he did wrong were the personal attacks. The edit warring was more understandable, especially given the fact that Parsecboy was also edit warring and was not blocked for it because of the issues with the hopping IP. That means that to the extent you added extra time for the edit warring, I think in all fairness that should no longer be included. Peacemaker's other statements sound sincere, and I'd like to commute the block to time served. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:29, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
@Bbb23: I'm happy to go with whatever you want. I saw the edit warring (I was led there from a post at AIV). The easiest way to deal with edit warring (my view) is to lock the page and let them start to discuss properly on the talk page - if they are all blocked then there's no discussion! However there were the personal attacks by Peacemaker67 in the edit summaries, and I do take a dim view of editors harassing other editors, so (s)he was the one that got blocked.
Thanks, Ron, I understand. I will unblock the editor with the caveat that future personal attacks may be met with lengthier blocks. Hopefully, they will not repeat the behavior, even when provoked by block-evading-hopping IPs.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:41, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

HI Ron- Sorry to bother you, but I recently noticed a page that was very detailed and good on my life story was removed. It was this one; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Carotta

I found the page online after about 4 years of working. I then used it on my site, adventureaaron.com

I am not familiar with how it was up and looks as if it was with the help of one contributor who worked on a few tv programs.

Done Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:21, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

You removed the deletion tag with the edit summary "user draft blanked". What about the other problem? There is still no fair use rationale which specifies a single, unique article. The fair use rationale mentions two articles, so it is not possible to tell which of them the fair use rationale refers to. --Stefan2 (talk) 16:45, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

  • Also, what about File:Chuck Kung Fu.jpg? There is a section entitled "Non-free media information and use rationale for Chuck Bartowski", but that section does not contain a fair use rationale. --Stefan2 (talk) 16:46, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
  1. File:Battlestarpegasus.jpg is a very old image (yes, the history failed to show it, as the old versions were deleted - well before we had revdel) - thus the wrong editor would have got the speedy notice, and chances are they are long gone anyway. Therefore speedy is not very helpful or nice - the editor used the correct FUR format at the time. If you insist on it being changed to two FURs then it needs to go to WP:NFCC where others editors can see the problem and might be willing to sort it out, rather than just delete on sight. There was a third page using the image - a user page, so I removed that image and left the image page with the two images linked as designed. Since then I have now sorted out the history in the modern way to show the uploader's original upload summary and the dates.
  2. File:Chuck Kung Fu.jpg - there is a {{Non-free use rationale}} on the page - you might not like the content, but you cannot claim there is not a FUR when the template is there. If you wish to dispute the FUR then you need a {{Di-disputed fair use rationale}} rather than a {{di-no fair use rationale}}

Image deletion

Dear Ron, Thanks for taking the time to go through the uploaded images. I understand that you recently deleted File:Gehry Model of Pierre Boulez Saal.jpg, which is part of the Barenboim-Said Academy article. After you had marked the image for deletion, the holders of the rights, the Barenboim-Said Akademie gGmbH, over this image and the other images of the article (File:Edward Said and Daniel Barenboim in Sevilla, 2002.jpg - I undid your deletion; File:Exterior_View_of_the_Barenboim-Said_Academy_on_Französische_Straße.jpg) have since sent their consent to the mentioned email-address. Please, let me know how to proceed. Best, User:baumwipfel

@Baumwipfel: Well, I've found the messages for 1 and 2 - but the third image I do not see a mention. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:46, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Albert Ellis

Ron, i added the link to www.ellisrebt.com on the cognitive behaviour therapy page as it is a vast source of information for cognitive therapy. Dr Albert Ellis is accredited as laying down the intellectual foundations of cognitive therapy and developing his pioneering approach: rational emotive behaviour therapy, I therefore think the link to be relevant. On a separate issue, on the Wiki Albert Ellis page I have had to on at least 5 occasions put back in the part about Dr Ellis entrusting REBT to his wife Dr Debbie Joffe Ellis (this is under the Final Years entry). Obviously someone does not like this and keeps deleting this, anything you can do please? pinkhill95

See how they - there appears to be quite a bit of vandals on the second page - also different IPs removing stuff. If you get it removed - drop a note and maybe we'll semi-protect it for a while. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:54, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Re: this

Thanks for the message. I forwarded the email permission to wikimedia's email address as one of the instructions in your message but got no response as of yet.--Nadirali نادرالی (talk) 21:44, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

@Nadirali: The e-mails are handled by volunteers - it could be up to a week before it even gets read. I've changed the banner to "OTRS pending" - gives you 30 days. I did note The owners allowed me to use it provided it's not for profit on the image - that won't be the case, all free images can be used for any purpose, including commercial. Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:50, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Well that is not exactly their message. Their message as i forwarded to wikimedia's address simply said I can use them, but when I requested use of them I told them it would not be for profit, just educational purposes.--Nadirali نادرالی (talk) 23:16, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

@Nadirali: Sadly that will not be enough permission for Wikipedia - the minimum requirement is CC-BY-SA (see http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/), we also allow CC-BY, CC-zero, and PD. All these licenses allow full commercial use - as used for most of Wikipedia (text and images). Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:44, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

OK I'll check them soon. But meanwhile please have a look at their forwarded email so we can establish 100% if they can be used. Thanks.--Nadirali نادرالی (talk) 20:04, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

YOU ARE SYMPTOMATIC ON WHY WIKIPEDIA EDITING HAS GONE DOWN

I wrote one sentence on Walmartsucks.com. And added ten well refernced sources to the talk page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walmartsucks.com You deleted all of them. People don't want to edit here if people like you abuse your deletion authority and delete their work. I have no respect for you at all, you don't deserve it. You treat other peoples contributions to this website like garbage. That is rude and nasty, and worst of all, it hurts the project. This is true no matter how many liked minded, narrow minded people established editors and admins support you here and on my talk page. So many articles and scientific peer-reviewed articles support the fact that deleting other peoples edits hurt wikipedia editing.

I may just recreate that article, but this time, put all the many magazine articles you deleted into the article itself. Then you will look like you abused your authority in deleting this article. Because you did, it was shortsighted and ignorant.

Do you treat people like this in real life? Start treating people with respect and you will be happier in life. Thewhitebox (talk) 15:48, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

I am not going to argue sources with an abusive editor(s) that clearly does not respect sources. I am posting this to warn other editors of your behavior today. When they come here with complaints about your reckless behavior, my comments will be here. Hopefully this can be used as evidence in a future RFC or arbitration case against your editing.
I dearly wish there was a system in which if admins speed delete potentially good articles negligently, they could lose their adminship. This desperately needs to happen. Your recklessness is a wonderful case in point.
Thewhitebox (talk) 15:54, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
@Thewhitebox: I did not tag it for deletion - I just examine the article. References have no place on the talk page - the same as references just tabled at the bottom, they need to be proper in-line references backing up each item of data to give good verifiability - that's not my view, it's Wikipedia policy.. Declined AIV report

Hello.

I had reported the specified user given that it was another IP address of an already blocked user, who used a new IP address to evade the block. Can you please give a few details about the declined report? Thanks. 2602:304:59B8:1F19:65C6:59E1:C52B:9B3A (talk) 19:05, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

WP:AIV is for is for obvious vandals and spammers only, who usually have received 4 warnings (level 1 through to level 4) and have vandalised again - as the header at the top says "The user must have been given enough warnings to stop their disruptive behavior.". If you think you have found some socks then consider taking it to WP:SPI, where other more experienced in that field will examine the report. Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:32, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks For Deleting Ash Rust Eating Tree

Sorry I was unable to assist in the discussion regarding the Ash Rusht file, this year I spent the holiday traveling abroad and out of the country. The image was given to me by a close friend and fellow Wikipedian who said he took the image himself and wanted me to publish it as my own work so that he could use it for a Wikipedia page he was working on regarding the Ash Rust family/class. He was a little caught up in his work and wanted me to post it so that he would not need to waste the time himself. After reading the discussion and seeing the site that so clearly depicted the image I realized that it was indeed not his own work. I also wished to ask if an EDU file is useable without the need of copyright approval. Thanking you for your help and wishing you a great rest of your weekend, STJMLCC (talk) 23:02, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Image copyright is one of the most difficult things here. Grab a camera, take a picture, and the copyright is yours (well the photo copyright is yours, so long as there are not copyrightable items in the photo!). For web images you need to look for CC-BY-SA or CC-BY or CC-zero or PD (Public Domain) somewhere on the site ("terms and conditions", "site usage", etc.), also check the foot of the page you are reading. Copyright in most of the world usually lasts to about 70 years past the death of the creator. If you are in the US, then since 1989 (U.S. Berne Convention Implementation Act of 1988 was enacted in March 1989) there has not been a need to slap "copyright by XXXX" on everything any more - full "All Rights Reserved" copyright is automatic, and thus for any web image to be used here, the web site has to show one of the licenses I mentioned. Suitable images are therefore hard to find - there are some images on Flickr and Panoramio that have a suitable license (but there is also a lot of Flickrwashing, which can give one a headache). The advanced image search on Google can also be set to only show "Free to use, share or modify, even commercially" which is useful. Images on university sites will be "All rights reserved" unless explicitly stated. The main exceptions for web sites are central USgov (not state) including NASA, and (I think) Florida and California official state (don't quote me on those two - I know there are two states - hey I'm in the UK, nothing is free here, even the Gov is Crown Copyright. Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:35, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Great! I will keep that in mind! Also regarding Toyota's page, I wanted to ask if it would be possible for the page to obtain semi-protection as it is constant target for vandalism. My friend[s] and I have been reverting vandalism on the site a multitude of times, it is more-so for my friend as I seldomly visit the site, and it has been sugested before but never taken into consideration. Thank you again for your time and help, (Forgot To Sign In On My Last Comment [IP Adress]) STJMLCC (talk) 00:10, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

98.229.208.214

You blocked this IP a few weeks ago for disruptive editing. They're back, making a series of nonsense edits to MBTA-related pages. Many of them are repeats of edits that I and others have specifically told them not to make. Do you think another block would be appropriate at this point? Thanks, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 03:13, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

I too am wondering what to do about this IP editor. They have a ton of warning messages at their Talk page, they do not leave edit summaries with the vast majority of their edits, and their edits to appear to be "disruptive" on balance. --IJBall (talk) 05:24, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
@IJBall and Pi.1415926535:  Done - also protected a few of their "favourite" pages - it's a dynamic IP - I can easily see a router re-boot to get a new IP address and avoid the block. Hopefully a combination of both will show them that they are wasting their time. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:56, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. Unfortunately, it may get worse. User:Monster_boy1's edits look incredibly similar, right down to identical edits on Template:MBTA Orange Line. 100.0.125.66 has a smaller pool of edits but they look to be another version on the same, including the obsessiveness over Boston geography and edits to Foxborough, Massachusetts. At this point, do I need to open an SPI case? Pi.1415926535 (talk) 21:07, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
@Pi.1415926535: Looking at those edits (and I'm not an SPI expert), I would say that's a big yes. SPI can run an edit comparison - I think that will show some results. At least the IP editing will be reduced, while the pages are protected. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:11, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
Here is the page if you'd like to add to it. Thanks for your help! Pi.1415926535 (talk) 18:34, 29 November 2014 (UTC)
The user compare report on that page looks interesting. Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:26, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

New York City Scouts

Werieth stripped the images out of this page and I didn't see it at the time. So, the images all got deleted as orphans. I'd like to add them back in.

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Greater_New_York_Councils&diff=prev&oldid=614364534

Can you work with me on this? Please restore the images and let me know. I'll add them back in.

Thank you, --evrik (talk) 20:41, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

@Evrik: Well I could restore them, and he will take them out again! You have best discuss it with him first - Fair use has to be minimal - often one in the main infobox, any more can only be used if they have a critical commentary about each of the images. Ronhjones  (Talk) 02:10, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the response. This was argued to a draw over the Scouting in California article on the Non-free content review page. The end result was that more than twenty smaller articles were created for each of the councils. Werieth complained about that as well, but he drove that change. For similar reasoning these were already split off from the main Scouting in New York article. Would you please reconsider? If so, please restore the images and restore this version of the article. I'll argue it out with Werieth if it come to that again. Thanks! --evrik (talk) 20:51, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
@Evrik: Just undo your last edit on that page and all will be revealed. :-) Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:40, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of FIDES Bank Namibia

Hello, I found out the article FIDES Bank Namibia was proposed for deletion and subsequently deleted on the basis it was wholly acquired by separate business entity and no longer existed. This does not look like a proper reason for deletion to me, because:

  • the bank existed and as such, deserves an article in Wikipedia as much as it deserved it during its existence as FIDES Bank (e.g. was the article on Pan Am ever proposed for deletion?);
  • So far as I know, the activities of the bank are still going on but under the name of 'Trustco Bank Namibia' (cf. this reference).

Would that sound good enough to you to restore the article so that I can update it thereafter?

Thanks for your feedback, looking forward to hearing you on this.

Your state library, what it is, what it does (1977).png

Hi Ron,

Thanks for catching my error in the rights information on the image File:Your state library, what it is, what it does (1977).png. The image depicts the cover of a pamphlet considered to be in the public domain by its creator and online distributor, the State Library of North Carolina. The official rights statement for the full publication is found at http://digital.ncdcr.gov/cdm/ref/collection/p249901coll22/id/63754, which is linked from the pamphlet's page in the online collections of the State Library of North Carolina: http://digital.ncdcr.gov/cdm/compoundobject/collection/p249901coll22/id/131864. Materials from the State Library's online collections have been uploaded to Wikimedia under the {{PD-SLNC}} license (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:PD-SLNC).

Because this image is only the cover image rather than the full pamphlet, it was uploaded to Wikipedia, where I'm a little less familiar with how to establish a unique rights statement for the State Library. Is it possible to reinstate the image?

Thank you, User:NCandbeyond

@NCandbeyond:. As you have noticed Wikipedia does not have the rich diversity of templates that commons has. Partly, I suspect, that we expect free images to be on commons, and therefore there's no point in making unnecessary templates.
The links look OK. You have a choice...
  1. I can undelete and just add a standard PD license, with the links
  2. You can upload direct to commons and use the correct template - if the whole leaflet is PD - then so is the cover.
Even if I did the first option, it's likely that someone would move it to commons anyway - editors patrol round adding {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}} to anything that looks like it should be there. Let me know what you want to do. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:52, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

That makes sense, we can add it to Commons if that's the thing to do. As an aside, is there ever a circumstance under which a file should be uploaded to Wikipedia instead of Commons? - NCandBeyond — Preceding undated comment added 21:37, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Yes...
  1. Images on commons must be free in both USA and country of origin. Thus an image of a new building, in say the Philippines cannot be free in home country, and will only be on Wikipedia. See c:Commons:Freedom of panorama
  2. Fair use images can only be on a local wiki, and they must satisfy WP:NFCC and be <100,000 pixels in size - for images that cannot be obtained free - CD/DVD covers; posters; deceased people; etc.
See also {{Template:Do not move to Commons}} and that templates use - Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Do_not_move_to_Commons Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:17, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Draft:Rainbow skirt and feather coat dance: Revision history

Dear Ronhjones. We are a group of friends and we created the Wikipedia page of Rainbow Skirt and Feather Coat Dance (draft submitted by the user Larryai3290). He submitted the page without asking us and the draft wasn't ready at all. Now, we cannot edit the page anymore, and we don't know how to delete the submitting and re-submit it after changing things. We are really struggling with Wikipedia right now and we are 19 years old, it's the first time we're using Wikipedia and we're really really lost... I've seen you edited the page the 28th November 2014 and that you're an administrator so maybe you could help us... We need to do it fast because it's a project for presenting the dance for a local event and we didn't know we would have these kinds of problems... Thank you in advance and I apologize for my poor english (we're french). Thank you if you help us, that would really, really mean a lot to us. Sincerely, JulieHSCL — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliehscl (talkcontribs) 17:39, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

@JulieHSCL: The page was submitted for review on the 27th November. I would guess that it won't be reviewed until 27th December or later. You can edit the page - there is nothing to stop you editing it, right up to the review day. Even if it fails the review, it can be worked on and re-submitted later. There are three editors currently working on the page user:Larryai3290 (who created the page), User:Ekuaa 95, and User:Liu159130 - if you want to edit it, then you will have to work with them to improve that page. My edit was an automatic one, after deletion of a poorly uploaded image. Why don't you also create the article at http://fr.wikipedia.org as you are French - the other language wikis need more pages Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:49, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I made some edits to the page titled Sycamore School in 2008 and I logged on to view them in the page history, but the page had been deleted. I don't contest the deletion in any way, but the edits from 2007 and 2008 do hold sentimental value to me. Is there any way I can have a copy of the old page to see what used to exist? Dear Mr. Jones,

This summer you deleted a wiki page for Tsogo Sun as expired PROD due to lack of good references showing notability of the subject (the deletion discussion page).

I have made an extensive search for information in order to restore the page. Here you can see my corrected and expanded version of the old userfied pageTsogo Sun in my sandbox.

Please let me know whether I can restore the page using this text. I need your (second) opinion, because you was previously involved in that matter. Moreover, JamesBWatson (a wiki admin) was and is still sure that the subject does not satisfy Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Our discussion of this topic has proved inconclusive, so I decided to ask for your help. —Alexandra Goncharik -sms- 12:50, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

What you really need is an independent review where there is no history known to possibly add bias. Therefore, you have the userpage banner on the page - just click the green link to add it to the WP:AfC review queue, even if it doesn't pass - you will be told what is wrong and (so long as you keep improving it) it won't be deleted. This is what I do now, it's a good way of getting an article into mainsapce, without the worry of someone immediately coming along and asking for deletion - I'm waiting for my 3rd review of Draft:Robbie Glover. NB:You need to make that first "Tsogo Sun" at the start of the article in bold. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:28, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your help! I didn't know that even Wikipedia administrators submit articles via WP:AfC. I will follow your advice. —Alexandra Goncharik -sms- 17:28, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
And even we lose articles as well - spot the red links... User:Ronhjones#English_Wikipedia Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:49, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
Draft:Tsogo_Sun is online. I hope it will be accepted. Thanks again for your kind explanations. Good luck with your 3rd review of Draft:Robbie Glover. —Alexandra Goncharik -sms- 10:52, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Hello, Ronhjones, I'm translating Henry IV of England's life, and I can't get what does "tiret" mean. Could you please help me. Good contributions and thank you very much.Claudio Pistilli (talk) 14:51, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Ha, history and French - my two worse subjects! English aristocracy used French for a long time, I therefore assume it's a French word. Strictly means "dash" - as in long hyphen. http://www.cnrtl.fr/definition/tiret says could also mean small piece of parchment cut into long, twisted, used to put on and fasten papers ensemble (Google Translate). But, then I thought it could be a heraldic description - http://archive.org/stream/heraldryforcraft00hope/heraldryforcraft00hope_djvu.txt also http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=dmdsAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA1063&lpg=PA1063&dq=tiret+heraldry&source=bl&ots=THxmRL8uan&sig=kuOqu16kU1DDrR77e5uBxqnXwxM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=AUmDVIaaHomsUfqogAg&ved=0CEYQ6AEwCQ#v=onepage&q=tiret%20heraldry&f=false. My guess therefore is looking at the context of the article, is some sore of coronet - maybe based on "tiara", but for a man. Good Luck. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:33, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of Foiwe

Hello,

Hope you are doing well. There was a page created by me on "Foiwe" (Company name: Foiwe Info Global Solutions). This is a legitimate and registered company as per Govt of India and this page was created for informative purpose only. I had provided various links to reputed magazines and other online portals to show that the company is genuine and legitimate. To ensure that the guidelines of Wikipedia is followed, we have referred wiki pages of reputed companies like Accenture and oracle. However, today when I was looking out for the page, I became aware that the page was deleted by you. I would request you to review your decision and restore the pages. If there are any issues, please let me know and I will do my best to get those fixed.

This page is very important, as any prospective employee who comes for interview is aware about the company and gather information about us. This enables them to take informative decision.

I hope you understand our position and would request you to help us to get it back. Please let me know if you need any additional information or references and I will be happy to assist you. Please do the needful.

The url to the page was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foiwe The company URL: http://www.foiwe.com

If you could mark a copy of your response to suman.howlader@foiwe.com it will be of great help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Renovez (talkcontribs) 14:54, 5 December 2014 (UTC) Cheers, Suman — Preceding unsigned comment added by Renovez (talkcontribs) 14:53, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Restored as "Contested PROD", don't be surprised if if ends up in a deletion process though. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:26, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks Ron, It was very helpful. I have added one external link from 'Entrepreneur Year Book 2012' (http://www.siliconindia.com/yearbook/company/FoiweeInfoGlobalSolutionsLLP-catid-8-cid-84.html/2012) and will be able to provide few more soon. Please advise how can I stabilize the article so that it remains safe and does not go for deletion. Do I need to do anything to remove the article from 'contested PROD' and put under any other category or is it fine for the article to stay there? Please advise. Cheers, Suman — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.166.237.224 (talk) 06:42, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

While it remains in mainspace, then other editors will find it and maybe make a decision if it is worthy of staying. So the more improvements the better. The alternative route is to move it to draft space as Draft:Foiwe, and then use the WP:AfC reviewing process to get it approved - then if the review fails it does not get deleted - just left for more improvement. It can then only be deleted if not approved and unedited for 6 months. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:10, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks Ron. I have added a reference from 'The Telegraph' Newspaper. Hope this helps. I will keep an eye on the article and if it gets highlighted again, I will add that for AFC. Cheers, Suman — Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.12.36.66 (talk) 08:58, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Mike Toshack undelete

I am perplexed as to why Mike Toshack's page was deleted. He seems to be the only member of the Portland Timbers' coaching staff to not have a page. He is the keeper coach for the Timbers, which is a legitimately professional team. To say otherwise is fighting words! Vagabundus (talk) 19:58, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

@Rgathercoal: The Proposed deletion was uncontested. The reason given was "Fails WP:GNG and hasn't managed a fully pro team which means he also fails WP:NFOOTBALL". You can still contest it - see User:Ronhjones/DeletedPROD Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:21, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

picture deletion

Hello, You deleted a picture that was waiting for approval. I sent the necessary email giving permission to use on November 28th and then updated wikipedia with the necessary stamp on the image. Any insight/help on this? I thought I had done everything necessary. It was for the page of "Brent Poppen".

Thank you, Team 77Team 77 (talk) 18:38, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

@Team 77: You have to tag the image with {{OTRS pending}} when you send in the permission, as OTRS can take a month. I've restored it and added the banner - so there are now 30 days before that banner will flag up as overdue. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:17, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

I did that on December 1st. But thank you for restoring it. :) much appreciated.

Hatta Fort Hotel - Image for Deletion

Hi Ron - Not quite sure what's happened here. Emailed permissions-en@wikimedia.org with confirmation from hotel's PR agency that the image was confirmed for CC BY-SA 4.0 on 30th November... Alexandermcnabb (talk) 08:15, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

{{OTRS pending}} was applied to the image on 7 October 2014, we then allow at least a month for OTRS to process the e-mail (which we have to assume is sent when the OTRS pending template is applied). We waited until the 29 November 2014, and no e-mail was found, and thus was set for deletion. If the e-mail is subsequently sent, then OTRS will undelete the image when the permission has been approved. I just looked - it is in the queue for processing - ticket 2014113010002644 Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:35, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

Just checked, FWIW, the original mail to permissions-en@wikimedia.org was sent 7th October. Alexandermcnabb (talk) 05:39, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

@Alexandermcnabb: The only e-mail that has "Hatta Fort Hotel" in the text was Created: 30/11/2014 04:44. Maybe the name/url of the image was not in the e-mail of the 7 Oct - it happens all the time...! Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:33, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Image question

McKinsey & Company would like to contribute an image of their Marginal Abatement Cost Curve to the article about them. This is a graph that correlates the costs of different environmental efforts to their overall impact on greenhouse gases. It's the focus of a sub-section of the article. There is no free alternative to the image, the graph itself representing a lot of intellectual property and whatnot. I was wondering if there was a non-free exception for something like this? CorporateM (Talk) 22:47, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Oh, that's a bit of a grey area. Can I assume it's something like http://nigguraths.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/mckinsey_mid_range_abatement_curve.jpg? I can't see anything like that free, it's a bit of an issue about how much copyright there is - some might claim c:template:PD-textlogo. Assuming one can claim some originality, then you are stuck with fair use for that image - that of course makes it a bit small - http://www.ronjones.org.uk/mckinsey_mid_range_abatement_curve.jpg is how the image will need to be at non-free sizing/resolution. However, the main problem is that it is "replaceable" - I could knock up a simple bar graph in Excel, and tart it up in PhotoShop to make something similar (but not exactly the same) in less than an hour or so - or even being very Wikipedia friendly, and just making a drawing of lots of rectangles in Scribus (or Inkscape) and exporting as an svg. So I would have to say that non-free is a non starter. So you either need a proper copyright release for the proper image, or just make something similar - enough to illustrate the function of the graph for the article. You could ask User:Stefan2 for his view - he's very good at shooting down invalid non-free image claims...! Ronhjones  (Talk) 01:21, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
FYI - I also finally uploaded this video of BabyFirst content, which you helped guide me through. I'm going to try to see if I can get the converter to lower the resolution a bit. CorporateM (Talk) 01:19, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
@CorporateM: Do exactly 50% both ways - it will give the best picture and will be close enough to 100,000 pixels. Ronhjones  (Talk) 01:24, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

louis robinson rugby league

I object to the removal of the above page, it would appear you have deleted LOUIS ROBINSONS wikiapedia page, im unsure why that is, under your guidance notes he has played in the last 3 seasons 7 times for Canada in full internationals against USA and Jamacia in both USA and Canada, countries all who fall within the RLEF and RLIF, he would have played around 4 more games but his English club side were unwilling to release him midseason as it clashes with the domestic league season and they pay his wages.

He plays in the championship as a semi professional; he has played in the challenge cup for the last three seasons, another one of your guidelines. He is paid and contracted on a two season contract to the London skolars who play in the div one of the kingstone press championship. Under the 12 super league teams, there are only 3/4 team full time professional teams in the two next divisions, it is a march till october sport. The cooperative championship no longer exists and hasnt for a season so your guidelines are out of date, This season he has turned down 4 new offers to stay in london including two to go full time, and two offers to play in France this winter, he is only one of two semi professional internationals to play for Canada, so is a big part of there rugby league heritage being only one of two overseas semi pros All of history and claims were backed by factual links to trade papers and independent SPORT AND RUGBY websites, the site was updated on a regular basis, with accuarate and factually correct information. should you require any further information please contact me,

Emily Schooley

Hello Ronhjones. Thank you for speaking to the editor on the above mentioned article. There are particular editors that have been troublesome to a lot of previous editors during the previous AfD's and I myself left a message on Sadfatandalones page and explain to them in a very WP:Civil tone on how to go about the re-establishment of the AfD deleted article. It is evident that this previous editor is the subject themselves so it would be recommended that we watch the movements of these edits. Again thanks for chiming in! --Canyouhearmenow 22:16, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

  • Hang on a second Canyouhearmenow... there is no evidence whatsoever that Sadfatandalone is Schooley, at least, not on-wiki. I think there's little doubt that they're a fan of Schooley, and maybe a personal friend... but it's a stretch to say categorically that they are Schooley. Also, I wouldn't agree that they've been troublesome to many people, and I'm one of the legitimate editors whom they've directly disagreed with! Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 22:54, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
I'm not worried either way. If they want it userfied, then that's fine with me - but I think the only way for it to stay is to then go through WP:AfC. Yes there is always the possibility that it will be skipped and moved direct to article space - it was done before and lasted... not very long (1.5 days to be exact!). With so much history, many editors will have it on their watch page, and as soon as it hits main article space, they will all know, and will be along PDQ to review it. Hence the need to go through WP:AfC - that is the only way it will ever get approved and stay (assuming enough data can be found). Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:24, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
Lukeno94 I wasn't speaking of Sadfatandalone as being Schooley. I was talking about the editor in the original AfD. I was saying that we need to watch that we do not run into a problem with the whoever was the original editor as it was brought up in the AfD that it was suspected that the originator was actually the subject. I put on Sadfatandalone's page a message as to how to go about re-establishing the article with a better chance of getting it through if they found better sources. I do see where part of my original message is missing so I must have accidentally moved my cursor and deleted my text. I have clarified what I was meaning to say.--Canyouhearmenow 03:44, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Marco Tiggelaar, the owner of the photo, sent an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org on November 30, 2014 giving express permission to use his photo. This was his message:
"This is to certify that I have given permission to publish the following photograph files on Creative Commons/Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license: (1) Marco Tiggelaar - Shenzhen, China.jpg; (2) Marco Tiggelaar - Shenzhen, China cropped01.jpg; (3) Marco Tiggelaar - Shenzhen, China cropped02.jpg."
That was before the deadline expired. Why was it deleted? What should be done to put it back? Kaguchi (talk) 13:47, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

No crystal balls! We don't know when or if you decide to send in permission to OTRS, so if we do not see the special {{OTRS pending}} banner, then as far as most editors know, it's not been done. Thus the editor added the no-permission banner, and since nothing altered in 7 days, it got deleted. I've restored it and added the important banner (as well as the standard INFO template), so you now have 30 days - that's usually enough time for OTRS. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:29, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi Ronhjones, I have since gotten permission and sent to the permissions-en email address for wikimedia for the image, but haven't heard anything back. Can I undo the delete of the image and try again? I have all the permissions, a raw image with the copyright exif data, written permission, and permission on the image itself from the original author, and Alex Brewer. Should I keep waiting for it to undelete, or should I do it myself. Thanks for your help. Seebq (talk) 21:08, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Image Deletion

Hi Ron,

An image I uploaded was deleted. I had the content owner provide a licence and proof of ownership to the email address specified in the post your left on my Talk page. Please can you reverse the action.

Thank you.

Ghyde1992 (talk) 08:50, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

The {{OTRS pending}} was added at 14:38, 28 October 2014, that's when the e-mail was supposed to have been sent. So the image was displayed for 6 weeks with no permission. We cannot give another large chunk of time, but OTRS will undelete the image if they approve the permission, so no need to upload again. Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:40, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Can I put these Ancient Egyptian words on Wikipedia?

Am I permitted to put Ancient Egyptian words from free Ancient Egyptian dictionary Dickson (Creative commons license) and out of copyright dictionary by Wallis Budge vol 1 and 2 on Archive org.

Also about Mark Vygus Egyptian dictionary there is no sign of copyright in it but the PDF is secured and cannot copy text and Vygus didn't respond to my email?

Edit:I have found Vygus dictionary uploaded on some Wiki so perhaps it is OK to use?

Also user Chris Troutman reported me as vandal because he given me enough warnings that is not true you can see my contributions that after 15:23 UTC is my last edit on Hathor page rest is on my talk page and Chris talk page.If you look at my talk page where Chris posted last three warnings it is in:15:47, 15:48, 15:49 UTC at that time I was mostly on Croatian Wikipedia and didn't see it.My Egyptian words are mostly from free Dickson dictionary which is creative commons license. You can look at Croatian Wikipedia Xand2 contributions and will see that after 15:48 I have only edited Croatian Wikipedia articles till 17:44 and on English Wikipedia only talk pages since then and he posted three warnings after 15:47 which I didn't see most in short time ranging from one to three minutes in which I didn't edit any English Wikipedia articles.I noticed after seeing that he have reported me as vandal that in his edit summary was warnings which I also didn't see.

From the top...
  1. is dated 2006 and is CC-BY-NC-SA - no good for Wikipedia use (the NC is not allowed)
  2. is published in 1920, and the images of those page are therefore {{PD-US-1923-abroad}} and usuable
  3. is GNU Free Documentation License 1.2 - not suitable on it's own, we need CC, see GNU Free Documentation License and Wikipedia:GFDL
Hope that helps you a bit. How you use them in the article that looks good is more difficult - you really need to discus with the other authors for that answer. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:07, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
OK although I don't understand why if it is out of copyright, if I understand correctly Budge's dictionaries can be used on Wikipedia in three years, how about these:

A Dictionary of Egyptian language McCauley 1883:

https://archive.org/details/jstor-1005403

OpenGlyph on Sourceforge probably GPL:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/openglyph/

JSesh for writing hieroglyphs also on Sourceforge:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/jsesh/?source=navbar

Also there is some problem in editing Wikipedia for example if I put new sentence in new row but when saved it is in same row this is a problem in writing more words for example this two sentences are each in new row but are displayed as in one but when there is empty row between it displays correctly:

This is example This is example

Also do you know if there is Wikipedia template for actual number of edits so far I could find only manually updated? Thanks.

Xand2 金日光旦照 (talk) 08:19, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Depends when they were published - US copyright on non-US works is a mess, anything post 1923 and pre 1977 is 95 years after publication Wikipedia:Non-U.S. copyrights
  1. 1882 - {{PD-US}}
  2. Open Source software is licensed so you can download and use the software free-of-charge. That's not commercial re-use - I can only see "All Rights Reserved"
  3. GNU Library or Lesser General Public License version 2.0 (LGPLv2) - same as the first (3) - not good
A single line break is regarded as "whitespace" and gets removed. Wikipedia supports HTML tags - so to add a break use the simple closed break tag...
<br /> don't forget the space after the br - <br/> is not correct, neither is <br>, they may work but not always in future.
Hope that helps Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:21, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
So does that mean that I can use Egyptian Dictionary McCauley 1883 because it is before 1923.As for JSesh it is only for writing hieroglyphic text like Windows Wordpad. Xand2 金日光旦照 (talk) 08:02, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
If it's published before 1923 - then it's Public Domain in the USA (where Wikipedia main servers are located). I don't see a copyright issue with it. There may be a content dispute with what other editors want, but copyright is not an issue. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:05, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the information but I found that Wikipedia PD US 1923 abroad article from 2009 and does that mean that if it is after 1923 will never be public domain or in three to four years?I think that I have read somewhere on the internet that public domain is approximately anything older than 75 years? Xand2 金日光旦照 (talk) 19:18, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Made in UK, and copyright...
  • US - Published before 1923 - Public Domain
  • US - Published after 1923 and before 1977 - Date of Publication + 95 years
  • US - Published post 1997 - Date of author's death + 70 years
  • UK - Date of author's death + 70 years
Wallis Budge died in 1934
  • All UK copyright expired 1/1/2005 and is Public Domain in the UK
  • US anything published pre 1923 is Public Domain.
  • US any books published 1923 to 1934 have copyrights restored, and so will not be Public domain until 1/1/2019 to 1/1/2030.
Hope that make some sense - I said it was complicated. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:45, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

@Xand2: Not copyright - there are many reasons - all explained at Wikipedia:Signatures#Images. Blocking of user: Troy Lasley

Hi-- I see that you're the person who blocked the user account "[Troy Lasley]." I'm trying to get a better sense of what's going with that? It says "spam," but I looked through his edits and don't see anything that's spam. Newbie editing, perhaps. I ask because he's a student in one of my history classes and I had given him an assignment of learning to edit history-related pages on Wikipedia. It would seem that he did something wrong, but I can't figure out what. Any help is appreciated. Prof. Mc (talk) 23:08, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

The only edits he did were to add the same book to 6 different articles - and all reverted as Rv refspamming, plugging a non-notable book by a non-notable author. They were warned not to do so, but persisted, and eventually reported at WP:AIV (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism&oldid=633866071) Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:21, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
Well, he was a newbie. He got a single warning that was a final warning. That's unusual. He was trying to add footnotes, but didn't know what he was doing. I'd hardly call that spamming. Too bad he was booted without any effort at education. Prof. Mc (talk) 18:44, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi Ron, can you delete all these articles including the template as I don't think it is a necessary for an article with just a one list content as all the results also has been listed on the main article including in all of this template content. Here the list:

Thank you! :) ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 10:35, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
@Muffin Wizard: We need to follow policy... Add
{{subst:Proposed deletion|concern=reason for proposed deletion}}
tag to the top of the main article page to nominate the article (changing the text "reason for proposed deletion" to your reason).
It will then be deleted 7 days later unless someone objects (unlikely I suspect). Ronhjones  (Talk) 14:42, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the instructions. :) ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 15:55, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

You deleted a photo I uploaded even though I clearly stated why I was allowed to use the photo. The subject of the photo who owns the copyright ASKED ME TO UPLOAD IT FOR HIM FOR USE ON HIS PAGE.

Why did you delete my photo I uploaded of Dr. Michael Lardon? It was given to me by Dr. Michael Lardon and the copyright holder is Dr. Michael Lardon and it is for use on the wikipedia page of Dr. Michael Lardon. Actions taken by Wikimembers like you deter me from contributing in the future because of the unnecessary red tape that destroys the attempted progress of individuals like myself trying to improve articles on this website. Obviously, Wikipedia is not a valuable place for me to put any effort into as whatever I do will simply be deleted by a user with higher authority. Again, the subject of the photo who owns the copyright of the photo ASKED ME TO UPLOAD IT FOR HIM FOR USE ON HIS PAGE. My name is Vissequ. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vissequ (talkcontribs) 23:52, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

@Vissequ: It's very simple - you cannot have a non-free image when the possibility of a free image could possibly be obtained. Thus a non-free image of a living person (unless they are truly 100% locked up) is not allowed. So it fails WP:NFCC#1 There is no facility to upload files "For Wikipedia use only" - if you want to upload an image of a living person then it will have to be released to at least CC-BY-SA by the copyright holder (usually the photographer, unless an explicit written transfer of copyright was given by the photographer - which will need to be seen) - see WP:DCM for more information. Thames class lifeboat photo

Removing instance of File:Thames class lifeboat 50-001 as Treffry, Castletownbere 2014.jpg that has been deleted because "F11: No evidence of permission for more than 7 days"); (TW)

Hello I uploaded my photo but attribute the copyright to that of the organisation I am chairman of rather than me personally. I do not fully understand what is meant by no evidence of permission???

Thanks

Sadly, every day, dozens of images get uploaded that are already on the web, and not by the person who owns the web site! A simple rule is never publish a photo on the web first that you want to upload here. Once it's published on the web site then it gains the copyright status of that site - thus you quoted on the image page Previously published: Website: www.50001.org.uk, Facebook www.facebook.com/exRNLI50001, local and national press. - and what does it say at the bottom of http://www.50001.org.uk/ page - Copyright © All Rights Reserved - thus unusable on Wikipedia. The full description of how to get it on Wikipedia can be found at WP:DCM - personally, if you want a quick way - have a page on the web site that just has the image plus the code at http://creativecommons.org/choose/results-one?license_code=by&jurisdiction=&version=4.0&lang=en (and no All Rights Reserved) - if that was done we could undelete once we know the url of that page.
