Proposed deletion of Phil Jones (songwriter)[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Phil Jones (songwriter), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. AfD nomination of Phil Jones (songwriter)[edit]

I have nominated Phil Jones (songwriter), an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Phil Jones (songwriter). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Amalthea (talk) 18:42, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi
For a person to have an article in Wikipedia, he needs to be notable. For a musician, the notability guidelines are listed in Wikipedia:Notability (music). As far as I can say nothing in the article is enough by those guidelines, and I couldn't find any reliable sources via google that could establish notability for him either. In paticular, his cooperation with notable musicians doesn't make him notable, neither does a performance in the CBGB.
If you have or can find any *reliable sources* that can establish notability, please add them to the article, then go to the article's deletion discussion and say so there.
HTH and Cheers, Amalthea (talk) 19:23, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The deletion discussion will remain open for usually five days though, so no hurry - if you can improve the current article right away then it's even better.
Should it get deleted before you had a chance to copy the page somewhere to keep working on it you can still ask an administrator to get you the deleted page content.

July 2008[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Phil Jones (songwriter) has been reverted. Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): rule: '\bmyspace\.com' (link(s): http://www.myspace.com/philjones) . If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, or similar site, then please check the information on the external site thorougly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creators copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).

If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! • Hi
Myspace pages are usually not considered reliable sources, which is why there is a bot that automatically reverts if a link is added to one. I reverted him again, *but*: This particular myspace page is really far from a reliable source.
I suggest you go through the list of inclusion criteria at Wikipedia:MUSIC#Criteria for musicians and ensembles, and if you can find one that applies to Phil Jones, find a source for it (if possible somewhere in the internet), and add the link to it in the references section. To really establish notability it should be a reliable source, i.e. not a self published source like a myspace or facebook page.
You don't have to try to mimic the Robynn Ragland article: it's not particularly great, she is simply notable due to her awards, #1 singles and soundtrack contributions.

  • Oh and one other thing: People might very well still give Delete comments on the articles deletion page. It is not a vote though. If, when an admin is about to close, there is one comment claiming that notability had been established in the meantime, the admin will check it out and leave the article be, if he agrees. So don't let that bother you.
