Welcome![edit]

Hello, Runeseeker357, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Ian and I work with Wiki Education; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Your draft[edit]

Hi. I returned your draft to your sandbox because it isn't ready to go "live" in Wikipedia's mainspace yet.

For starters, you can't use Wikipedia articles as sources in Wikipedia articles. It's very helpful if you link to them, so that readers can learn more about a topic, but the aren't considered reliable sources. You need to base all your work on reliable sources that readers can use to verify the information in your article. For example, you say [Nishida was] a member of the Canadian Energy Geoscience Association since 1980 but the source you site only goes to the Canadian Energy Geoscience Association's website, and says nothing about Nishida being a member, or since when they've been one.

Secondly, information about Nishida should be based primarily on reliable secondary sources. A person's own publications may help with details in certain sections of the article, but they the main sources of information should be secondary sources that are independent from the person you're writing about. I've linked to the Biographies handout that has a lot of details on how to write biographies, including many of normal typical sections used.

Finally, you should refer to people by their surnames or full names, not just by their first names. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:14, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your input. This is my first attempt at making a Wikipedia page for an assignment and could use all the help I can get. Runeseeker357 (talk) 21:51, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
