Please do not make controversial changes without consensus

Hello Jimmy. I have reverted some of your changes to articles regarding the name of the Rwandan genocide. There was a discussion amongst editors regarding the most common name for that event which you can read here, and the consensus was to use the name "Rwandan genocide" instead of "Genocide against the Tutsi". -Indy beetle (talk) 00:24, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Firstly, that is not an event as you’re saying. The name you and other editors have given it, is not appropriate but instead it is Genocide denial. Cause you’re renaming it yet the actual name is 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi as per UN Rutagengwajimmy (talk) 06:17, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

• Well, if you read the discussion, you will see that the academic community would beg to differ on that one. WP:COMMONNAME is the relevant principle with regards for how we have decided to name the event; most academic sources for the time being refer to this event (yes, genocide is an event, one of the worst kinds of events known to humankind) as the "Rwandan genocide", not "the Genocide against the Tutsi". You're welcome to your personal opinions on the matter, but you can not just blow past the WP:consensus that has already been reached. You can open a new discussion on the article talk page if you would like in an attempt to reach a new consensus in favor of your view on the name, though I personally doubt that this will change things. I'd also advise you in the future not to accuse WP:GOODFAITH editors of engaging in "genocide denial" as a first resort. Arguably, your removal of mention of the deaths of people of non-Tutsi ethnicity such as here, here, and here could count as genocide denial or atrocity denial by another perspective. I find the accusation of genocide denial as personally offensive (and I presume you would too if you were accused of such a thing) and those types of accusations frankly without much basis will instantly poison a discussion (see our policy on Wikipedia:No personal attacks). I've spent a lot of time here working on articles related to the tragic ethnic violence in the Great Lakes region, including the Bugesera invasion and subsequent massacres of Tutsis in Rwanda, the Ikiza of Burundi in which educated Hutus and moderate Tutsi-Banyaruguru were slaughtered, and the 1993 ethnic violence in Burundi. I recognize that these are contentious events well-within the living memory of hundreds of thousands of people and that they have engendered both political and academic disagreements. However, when the WP:Reliable Sources on a subject seem to point in a particular direction or reach a certain conclusion, I do my best to ensure that that is what is represented on Wikipedia.
