About what happened

I was called a liar not once, but twice by one of the other editors (Cambalachero). MarshalN20 tried to maintain a farse that he was a "neutral" editor while he insulted me by calling me a diva. All that I ignored while not a single editor complained to them about their behavior. I spent days, not minutes, not hours, but days bringing books after books while I saw Cambalachero and MarshalN20 bring nothing but their own personal opinions. For some reason, which I do not know why, Go Phightins! saw both views as equals. It was probably the first time on Wikipedia's history that reliable sources are given the same weight as personal opinions when writing an article. But that's fine, I respect his decision.

I said I felt dumber when I talked with MarshalN20 for a good reason. I showed dozens of books that backed my claims. MarshalN20's arguments were these:

"The fact that 'revisionists' found other, more pleasant, sides to this man does not make them incorrect or 'whitewashers' (as you like to call them). Rosas was not a hero, nor a savior. Rosas was not the Spawn of Satan. Rosas was human. That's what the article needs to reflect."

For some reason his personal opinion has the same weight as experienced and respected historians. Maybe I was out and I didn't know that things had changed. Here I wonder: if the message posted by MarshalN20 to me was supposedly a reply to what I said, then I did he did it only after the thread was asked to be closed with my "defeat"? You want to believe him? Then fine. It's your choice. If there is one person in this place who knows what he is talking about it's me. I wrote eleven featured articles, of which most are directly related to Juan Manuel de Rosas. I know the subject, I studied it. I brought sources. They brought nothing. They kept insulting me over and over and no else did nothing. And now you come to my talk page to complain about my behavior? How would you react in your workplace if you were the guy who works hard and has to hear your boss take your opinion and the opinion of two other colleagues who do nothing? Would it be fair? Anyway, as long as neither MarshalN20 nor Cambalachero writes anything in my talkpage, I'm fine. --Lecen (talk) 22:01, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Amazon.com as an external link

I don't know whom I should ask since the person that I asked about the other movie-related article have gone out of site, and I am lazy to look through the contributions and find the tiny link to him, I decided to ask you... My main question is whether its encyclopedic to use Amazon.com as an external link in this article: Big Top Scooby-Doo!? Not to mention that in such amount as having 3 links that are related to the same site, possibly even referring to the same movie! Your thoughts? Hi Mishae. First, I want to make a small semantic distinction. An external link is a link that provides more information but does not directly reference anything in the article. Amazon.com would not be appropriate as an external link in most situations. In this case, it is directly referencing something. It is appropriate to use Amazon.com to directly reference something; however, you should replace it with another source if a new source could be found. As for the three links, I combined two of them and left the last one since it was necessary as a reference. Kremlin Armory

Hi Ryan, I read your post on my talkpage but I decided to answer it on yours, since it probably will be convinient for you. I'm not going to Russia till I am 27 or older, however my parents go there every so often, like late spring... Unfortunately, they will be busy visiting their friends and family, so they wont have time for museums and such. However, if you want to you can also find the image of a throne here by searching for red stamps on this page. Its a bit tricky though, first you need to click on "Last updates", then you need to click on "Russia (8)" (thats the number oif updates), then you need to click on number 8 in the row on top. There is one downside though, I don't know how to copy and paste it, since the link isn't provided when enlarging the image (plus, I don't have permission or the license for that matter). You've done a good thing in facilitating AL's unblock. Please let it be now -- it's been 8 days since you opened the thread and haven't gotten sufficient traction to get the ban flipped and there's been lots of ongoing friction. Will do, I only reverted your close in it's entirety because Floq had expressed that he was going to close just a portion and when I initiated the unblock discussion I didn't intend for ban modification questions to be dropped. I requested pending changes level 2 since a lot of the trouble is coming from registered users who are invested in the subject and don't really want to hear the why of what we have in there now. It's a black hole and we're both trapped. I wish I had never watchlisted the article. I only watchlisted it because I noticed it was blatantly POV. Frankly, I don't support the death penalty, but people need to stop treating the girl like a martyr. She either killed a kid or allowed one to die in her care. Paussinae or Platyninae

While looking for info for this article, I have stumbled upon a question of whether this species is Platyninae as Wikipedian stub indicates... As this source indicates it is Paussinae, now I am cofused which one should I trust?--Mishae (talk) 04:03, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

I'll make it clear that I'm not an expert on bugs so if you want a more concrete answer, you'll need to go to a Wikiproject; however, it appears that the version saying Paussinae is using user contributed content and the version saying Platyninae is not. While looking for some users to make friends with, I stumbled upon this one Shawnee Smith. Considering that we both speak the same language, which is both Russian and English, I was wondering if I should suggest her to seek Adoption? That editor would need to email ArbCom in order to get unblocked. It's unlikely to happen anytime soon, because of their sockpuppetry issues. I've got something I could use your help on though. I just wrote Botik of Peter the Great. I don't really want to add information directly from the Russian version because there aren't inline citations; however, I'd really like information from the Russian sources. This one looks like it could add a lot to the article, but I can't figure out exactly what it is [1]. In addition, I don't know if you've gotten a DYK before, but if you translate Ботик Петра I (музей-усадьба), I can help you nominate it for DYK (I think a good title would be Museum of the Boat of Peter the Great, but you might think of a better translation than that). Have you created an article in your userspace before? Outside of Wikipedia. From as far as I know she wanted to upload an unfree image from that site, got warned numerous of times, but due to her language berrier, didn't understood what the other editors wanted from her... For some unkhown to me reason, she wants to upload that image, just because she likes that character... From what I can tell is that the article Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) is pretty much complete, but is probably in need of more illustrations. Russian Wikipedia for example have the same ammount of text with 3 illustrations!--Mishae (talk) 05:55, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
It will probably take some time for me to figure this one out. It appears that the image in question had a large effect on her being blocked. I'm going to talk to the blocking administrator and see what he thinks. It seems like the primary reason for the block was that she was uploading new images over old ones so just preliminarily, I would assume that an unblock would have requirements that she doesn't upload any images without seeking permission first, she agrees to mentorship under an administrator (her mentor would need to be someone who could block her if she does not appear to be improving), and she agrees to seek assistance from you any time she has trouble understanding something. Finally, I think it is appropriate to upload the image in question under a completely new file name (Shawnee kept uploading it over old images) and include it in the Ultimate section of the article. If you are confident in uploading images with fair use tags you can add it, otherwise I'll upload it by the end of the day. Ryan Vesey 15:16, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
Well, I can follow her actions, she is obssesed with only one article as far as I know. I can suggest her to put her unfree image instead of the old one, while moving the old one to the middle of the page, since the article is in need of images! Tea Host Bot

Hi Ryan. I'm just pointing out a kind of bot 'false positive': I was about to procedurally block an account when I saw this bot message. IMO this is just as unconstructive as those overzealous newbs at the WP:Welcoming Committee who believe that every new account should be thanked for their contributions whether they have actually edited or not. Hmm, I haven't been watching the discussions at the Teahouse for the last couple months, but I believe that the bot is still set to invite anyone who gets 10 edits within 24 hours. I also got them to not invite editors with level 4 or final warnings I think. I really don't know what to do about the edit you referred to, I'd like to say that the Teahouse invite might actually help a person like that, but I think it's unlikely since he, she, or they probably have no other goal than to create an article for their band. Ryan Vesey 15:02, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Per the name, Farty is certainly a vandal (although I agree with him that the general concept on Carrot Lord's user page is clearly incorrect). If I see Carrot Lord attempt to use the template somewhere again, I'll bring him to ANI immediately. I've actually got half a mind that this might be a good cop bad cop thing on Carrot Lord's side (i.e. Farty is his sockpuppet) and I was just heading over to Dennis so that he can tell me that no matter how much I want to check, a checkuser isn't going to look into it just based on my hunch. The real reason I'd want a CU though is due to the possibility of a sockfarm being created by an editor who is attempting to test the limits of Wikipedia and see how far he can go with mild (to major) disruption, I can't find the link, but somewhere on the internet is a vandalism experiment records of someone who created a huge sockfarm to see how quickly we'd remove his vandalism. Ryan Vesey 18:14, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

I am very unhappy with various aspects of this editor's actions. (And I say "this", not "these", because there is not the remotest doubt in my mind that they are the same person.) However, I really don't see enough grounds yet for a CU. However, Dennis said something to the effect "too much trouble for me to be willing to look into it" rather than "no", so you could try consulting another clerk or checkuser, or file an SPI. Help

Its me again, I have an issue with deleting the articles that I created 3 months ago. I don't really understand why I can't delete them even though that I gave quite a good reason. You see, I wrote those Nebria aetolica subspecies articles, which are all described by the same author in the same year, and are endemic to only one location: Greece. Now, I thought that in a long run I will find more info on those subspecies, but as it turns out, nothing new popped up. I redirected them to the species article, which is the best decision in this case. In the future, if you write an article and nobody else edits it, and redirecting is the best option, add {{db-G7}} to the top of the article. Ryan Vesey 03:45, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Undue tag on Coast Guard One

I tagged it as such because it gives undue weight to an incident, namely, the one flight where the CG2 tag was used pbp 19:19, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Then you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the various "One" and "Two" flights. Air Force One and Marine One are used to the extent that it would be inappropriate to list all of their uses; however, Coast Guard One, Coast Guard Two, Navy One, etc. become the plane they are based on the incident of use. The article "Coast Guard One" is about incidents where "Coast Guard One" and "Coast Guard Two" could exist or existed due to the presence of the President or Vice President. Ryan Vesey 19:23, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Notability of Coast Guard Two vs. Notability of Chili burger

You ask, how can I argue keeping Chili burger and deleting Coast Guard Two? Well, they're completely different. It's not like Coast Guard One is Marine One covered in chili. And also, because there's more than one chili burger in the history of the world, but only one flight with that callsign. It's probably not a stretch to assume that Joe Biden has eaten more chili burgers than he has taken flights in Coast Guard Two. Also, there is considerably more content at Chili burger than at Coast Guard Two; and there are considerably more hits for "Chili burger" than for "Coast Guard Two", and that includes hits for "Coast Guard two"...years, "Coast Guard two"...days, etc pbp 00:38, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

I consider it poor form to anonymously accuse another user of misconduct (if that's what you're doing) in a new forum where that user is not present. If you think Manning, I, or some other user is acting abusively then you should say so, name us, and then notify us of the discussion so that we might have the opportunity to respond if we do desired. Or, you could simply have requested unprotection on the grounds it wasn't necessary (and it wasn't) without bringing passive-aggressive insinuations into the mix. In that case, while your actions certainly played into my comment, there is a larger concern seen in many administrators who were given the bit before the current process existed. It's fine, I'm not nearly as annoyed as I probably sound. Note that as an old-school administrator who got the bit in 2004 I'm definitely covered in your comment. In my defense, I know the policies quite well, and deliberately ignored the ones that prevented improving the encyclopedia. Wikipedia:Ignore all rules is still good law, though rarely used properly. I believe in IAR, although I'm probably less likely than any other editor to use it. I tend to agree with rules because they exist so I find fewer reasons to ignore rules than most other editors (or people in general). Still, I don't know that invoking IAR was appropriate as that involved overruling the opinions of quite a few others.   • The previous RM procedure exploded way outside Wikipedia, and is now news-for-a-day. Unless you live under a rock, that's Not Good (tm)
  • You then repeat the exact same procedure again.

therefore:

  • We will not do another RM here.

If you continue to reinstate RM, without discussion, the correct action is to get you blocked on the obvious grounds that we do not want another blow-up.

I'm willing to allow that perhaps my analysis is in error, of course. Do you have any reasoning to the contrary?

The funny thing is, the first thing I did was attempt to add a </span> tag without ever looking at the code. That didn't do anything, so I added and </div> tag, it did nothing. I tried adding a |}, which did nothing. Finally I actually looked at the code/markup/whatever you want to call it and figured out what was wrong. It's just like how if you ever find an article that is randomly cut off, you should look for unclosed references, the </span> and </div> tags tend to be frequent culprits whenever there's something wrong with a template like that. Ryan Vesey 01:36, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

Assisted Migration/colonization

Thanks for moving my draft article User:Lambertiana/Assisted Migration for me. I think it is ready to make public, but I have a question. I would like it to replace the existing assisted migration article, and I have already incorporated the important components of the existing article into my draft. However, I think the title should be "Assisted colonization" instead of "Assisted migration", (explained here). Should I first move it to Assisted colonization and then delete Assisted migration? Or should I edit Assisted migration to look like my draft and then move it? By the way, I am not yet autoconfirmed, so if you are willing, feel free to do whatever you think best with it. Hi Lambertiana. I'm certainly not an expert on this subject, so I turned it over to the people who are more familiar with the topic over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Extinction. I did skim the article and I have one concern that it reads a bit more like an academic paper than a normal Wikipedia article, but again, I'm not an expert in the subject and someone there will offer a better opinion than me. If the formatting style needs changing, they should be able to offer advice on how to fix it. After that, an administrator should move your article over top of the older article. I was expecting you to attempt to make your point on the talk page. When you did not, it became clear that you did not intend to support your interpretation. We used to stop there every time going from Madison, WI to Souix Falls, SD for family reunions when I was a kid. I've got a midterm and a paper due in a few days and today was very unproductive due to Wikipedia. I can't have any more unproductive time, so I am using a wikibreak enforcer to keep me logged out until 3:30 UTC on the 12th. I'll probably make a mistake and be unable to log in at 15:30 UTC on the 12th. Botik of Peter the Great GA

I've passed the article now. However, I'm not too sure where to place it. You listed it under Royalty, nobility and heraldry, but all the GAs in that section are about people. It could perhaps have gone in one of the military vessels sections, but that doesn't seem quite right either. I've gone for European history at the moment, although I'm not convinced by that either. Proactiv/YouSendIt

Hi Ryan. I think we're close to the finish line for a draft Proactiv article that will be ready for editor scrutiny and consideration. Personally, celebrity-based advertising is not something I have an appreciation for, but I'm happy to read that Guthy-Renker has a reputation for ethics in their field, so they value my focus on ethics. We're adding their controversy with the Advertising Standards Authority, expanding on price-criticisms, and really just doing our best to be fair and neutral, however a complete and balanced article is still very valuable to them over the current.

If you're interested, I would love your feedback on our draft YouSendIt article as well, which is posted on Talk. I've also asked Wikidemon for feedback[3]. I think it's really valuable that we added content from an analyst report that volunteers would never have access to otherwise, even though the results reflect somewhat poorly on them.
