Orphaned fair use image (Image:Thecatch.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Thecatch.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Image:Brad Childress.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Brad Childress.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. AWA

Hi. First let me thank you for the link you added to Sports in Minnesota, a great help to the Minneapolis article. Second are you sure the American Wrestling Association really needed to be removed? I looked at their Web site and the infobox and information in their Wikipedia article and easily could have made a mistake...-Susanlesch 07:07, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

The AWA is part of Minnesota and was a contributer to the growth of wrestling in the 1980's. The statement that the WWF bought the AWA is false. The AWA disbanded in the early 1990's (1991?). RyguyMN 21:43, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I am willing to bet AWA in some form is alive under another name and probably another city, likely Rochester MN, but a phone call could say for sure. I have restored it to the Minneapolis article from 1960 until the 1990s. Its history is more than I have time to research at the moment over and above the new citation which seems fine. This timeline for example puts another AWA in Boston, then Ohio. Anyway it's good the WWE error has been corrected in two places. Thanks and best wishes. -Susanlesch 22:53, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
You're right Suanlesch, the AWA based in Rochester is under the same name, but is loosely based on the original AWA. Today's AWA is broken up into different territories across the country. I have a general knowledge of the history of the AWA and restling in general, but what you have looks good so far. RyguyMN 22:58, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Staubach The Hail Mary.jpg

1967 tornadoes

Nice job on that! Has that NWS page even really been relased yet? I hadn't seen it. I'll see what else I can find about it but I've found that finding information on stuff that old can be tough (except for the 1965 ones in the Twin Cities area). Also FYI in case you're interested, I actually emailed the NWS and asked if they have any images of the Comfrey - St. Peter outbreak. They don't have any online. I can't believe how few pictures there are of that considering it was just a few years ago. They do have some non-digital prints of the damage that they will eventually scan to the web when they make a 10 year anniversary page though. Gopher backer 03:49, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Minneapolis

Hello. Does Minneapolis, Minnesota look all right to you? Please pardon this form letter that is going to about a dozen people whose user name I recognize from some Wikipedia edit (could have been recent or in the past year). I expect to close peer review by nominating Minneapolis to featured article candidate in a day or two unless other editors have more work they'd like to do. In case the links help, places to make a difference are to edit in place, comment in the peer review, comment on the talk page, support or oppose when and if it gets to featured article candidate, or work on a child article linked from the following template. -Susanlesch 23:54, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Hulk Hogan

Hi. Hulk Hogan would be a great addition to Famous Minneapolitans but we would need a citation (I could only find a blogger who saw him once in a gym in Minneapolis). If you have a reference that places him in the city, how about something like: "State supreme court justice Alan Page is a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Elgin Baylor is a basketball great and Hulk Hogan is one of the most recognizable pro wrestlers." Or what you think makes sense. -Susanlesch 15:13, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Re:Minnesota Vikings Colors

If you look just below that, Template talk:Infobox_NFL_player#Offical team hex colors DO exist, why fake 'em?, the correct case is made. Why use generic "purple" or "indigo" colors when you can just (A) Get the official team hex colors from the team's color guide or (B) extract them from a logo, as in those from ChrisCreamer.com? I have done the later for each team, and those colors have been implemented for almost a month in roster, team, coach, and other templates. The last template left are coach/administrator and player templates. Pats1 00:11, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, RyguyMN. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. Numbers in NFL infoboxes

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Numbers can play a big part of players in the eyes of fans as far as identifying them, and I think it should be included in every active player article rather than just some. Hopefully people won't have any problems with it. I know it's not the way the template intended it, but it's very similar to the way it's represented in MLB infoboxes, and I don't think anyone can say it's a bad addition. Right now, I'm going through and adding it to guys I have on my watch list so at least it's out there in a lot of places.Chris Nelson 03:26, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Alan Page 1971 AP MVP

Hey just wanted to clear this up a bit. Most sources have listed the Colts's DE Marcetti (sp) as the 1958 AP MVP. Someone has provided information (a newspaper article) showing Jim Brown won the AP MVP award that year. In 1960 The Assoc Press had co MVPs Van Brocklin and Joe Schmidt Lineback for Detroit. So it would be incorrect to state Page was the first Defensive player to win the award. For some reason the Vikings always print that line that he did. I even wrote to them last year to see if they would correct it. I guess if Marcetti did not win the award in 58. It would be possible to write that Page was the first defense lineman to win the award as Schmidt was a LB. Or that Page was the first defensive player to win the award "outright" as opposed to being co MVP. But it would be incorrect to just state he was the first defensive player to win the award. Fair use rationale for Image:Al_Jury.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Al_Jury.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I see you've done the bulk of the editing on the Donaghy page. Good work, nice sourcing of references and such. And thanks for re-sizing my freakishly large image. I was frantically doing everything I could to make it smaller, but that. :P. So, the question is, what backlash do you expect from all of this? FamicomJL 06:18, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Yowza. Never knew a HOUSE of his was up for sale. And I've been following this as much as I can, reading every article on this out there. Even got my RSS feed for ESPN.com ready. :P Got a source for that? Would be a great addition to the article, but might fail the NPOV in some people's eyes...
Donaghy's guilty, plain and simple. I've been following the NBA for 20 years now...2 more as a causal fan early on, and this is making me fear that the NBA is in deep trouble. Michael Vick is probably thanking god right now that this can divert everyone's attention for a while. The fact that the investigation was going on for a year and a half is chilling, too. Imagine if any of the playoff games he officiated were HUGE games? Like Game Five of the Suns vs. Spurs huge?
Yeah, I'm here frantically looking for that info on his children myself. During before the news was leaked that it was Donaghy, Stephen A. Smith said on his radio show that he knew who it was, and that he found it sad considering that Donaghy (Still not mentioned by name) had 3 (Or was it 4?) kids. Smith's show ended at 1 P.M., BEFORE the 4 P.M. leakage, so Tim's name was never revealed. I mean, I know it's Stephen A. Smith (:P), but when it comes to the NBA I consider him to be a very good source. So right now I'm looking around the internet trying to find another source. I hope ESPN.com still has the podcast of the show up...it was about 6 minutes in to the 28 minute podcast that it was mentioned.
The above really should've went to Donaghy's talkpage. :P Oh well. FamicomJL 06:34, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, good point. Plus, I'm sure more information will come into light in the coming weeks.
Hoo boy, I HATE the conspiracy theorists...EXCEPT when it comes to some games with bad calls (Lakers vs. Timberwolves in the First Round in 2003...which everyone seems to forget. I think the calls in there were WORSE than the infamous "Mike Bibby's nose fouled Kobe Bryant's elbow" call.). This is no exception.
FINALLY, someone else who points that out besides me! The ultimate in scary: the late Earl Strom. He came from Philly too. I am very sure a guy like him would NEVER get caught up in that stuff, but who even knows? Joey Crawford is the only guy that I find suspicious in this whole thing. That guy is a hack, and I've been calling for people to pay attention to what he's been doing for years now. Javie's problem is that he's very technical foul happy, and he's a little..."blind"? Either way, my personal opinion is that if anyone else were involved in this huge embarassing mess, it'd be Crawford.
Good catch on the Rudolph thing. I forgot all about that. Hell, Richie Powers grew up around the area...wouldn't surprise me with the whole "Fuck You Richie Powers" thing in 1976. :P FamicomJL 07:06, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, forgot to keep checking that article. It even has some interesting stats on games Donaghy did, and a note about a Knicks/Heat game which seems notable for inclusion. I re-listened to the portion of Smith's podcast, and cited the children bit. FamicomJL 07:35, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Should the article be protected from I.P. and new account edits due to the vandalism? I asked on the discussion page (Check it out), if you're all for it you may do so if you'd like. Thanks. FamicomJL 17:06, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
That's the problem. I don't know at all if non-admins can protect anything...FamicomJL 18:11, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
I'll add the protection tag anyway. If anything happens, and if I get reprimanded, I'll argue my case. Kudos on reporting the person to an admin. They're obviously being a troll. FamicomJL 18:14, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
I reverted my edit. We have to request to get the page semi-protected. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection
I'll go and request for protection. FamicomJL 18:18, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
(Starting a new break), I've already nominated it for semi-protection anyway, this person wasn't the first, and won't be the last. I've got a feeling that this will get worse as we go on...Good work on getting them blocked. FamicomJL 18:24, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
The New York Daily News reported that Donaghy might even say the names of OTHER referee's and even PLAYERS in the huge gambling ring. And ESPNews reports that Donaghy will turn himself in by Tuesday. FamicomJL 04:19, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Agreed that it's a questionable idea, but my opinion is that there's nothing else we can do. The 2002 Western Conference Finals were tragic in the bad referee calls (especially game six...), and so was the first round Lakers/Timberwolves match-up of the 2003 Western Conference first round. SOMETHING needs to be done, and Stern has shown that he doesn't feel like doing anything when heavily disputed calls are made. I give the NBA MAJOR kudos for doing their best to make sure their referees are fair and don't make bad calls, but I don't think they're working hard enough. FamicomJL 19:54, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Donaghy articles

Hey, I've found a ton of interesting articles that shed more light on the Donaghy case:

If you yourself find any good articles, please share.

And the page is semi-protected! :D FamicomJL 06:17, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Who was it, Bob Costas who said about OJ "This has simply become surreal...". This has truly become a surreal circus. We'll see where this goes.
Psychological test? As in? FamicomJL 06:31, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Considering that the NBA I hear has one of the more stricter referee policies, I'm shocked that this wasn't an idea used by Stern. I'm sure now they'll use it more. I'm off to bed, maybe by tommorow this story won't get more and more strange...what an odd dude. FamicomJL 06:43, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I read that in the paper. Living in New York during times like these means that I get all the good scoop. :). The guy leaked out the info to the mobsters, like about the referees and such...ouch. It's funny how I looked at Stern and his policy with referees MUCH stricter, now my outlook has done a complete 180. HUGE thanks for the heads-up on the Stern press conference. You're a lifesaver. I heard from someone that it was going to happen, but didn't know the time. Thanks for the heads-up dude! FamicomJL 05:38, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
That's interesting. Thanks. :D. It doesn't specifically say WHO in general fills out the bios. Maybe Donaghy himself filled it out? That is quite odd, I'm surprised that no one else picked up on that. Good stuff. The next coming weeks are going to be VERY interesting.
I was actually reading up on how the public so far has reacted to this. So far it's split pretty even: One half thinks this'll be a huge black eye, and the other thinks that it will be forgotten in a year. I don't think it'll be forgotten (See Rose, Pete), but I don't think the league in general will die because of it...My opinion is that the NBA Referee reviews by the league will be HUGE. I remember reading a blog somewhere that suggested that the NBA enforces what the NFL does, two "Challenges" that the coaches can use. If they're right, the ref has to overturn the call. If the challenger is wrong, they lose a time-out, or even lose a technical free-throw. Sounds pretty logical. FamicomJL 21:24, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

NFL infobox template

Thanks for contributing to the template. I totally forgot about that dash, but that was a small but good detail. Also, good edit with the highlights. Do you think you could do the same for the entire NFL debut section, since nothing entered in there for rookies makes it look weird? See Ted Ginn, Jr.Chris Nelson 03:57, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks dude, looks good. I have a similar request, but I don't know if it's possible since I don't know much about templates. Is there way to make that team colored bar that says National Football League Debut conditional on things being entered into the debutyear and debutteam fields? That way if those didn't have things entered into them, that whole section wouldn't be there. It kind of looks odd with just the section bar there.►Chris Nelson 04:07, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:BillCarollo.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 07:09, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Mendy Rudolph

Hey there! It looks great so far. If anyone is going to fail it, it's going to be for it being a little short in some areas. The pictures and references will more than likely lead it to being a Good Article. My opinion? Try it, I'm pretty sure it will be passed. I'll be rooting for ya, because I have nominated two articles myself (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and To Tell the Truth). Both failed once (TTTT and Kareem), and one is currently on hold due to tiny errors (TTTT; Which I have fixed). So yeah, go for it! Would you like me to nominate it? FamicomJL 06:21, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Got your message. I'd take a look within these two days. Great job! Regarding Strom, yeah when you feel fresh enough again to tidy it up I'd be glad to give another opinion, if you so wish. Chensiyuan 12:52, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
I've done some minor cleanup at the Rudolph article (I'm not done combing through yet but it's certainly mostly all-clear). I've also left a couple of comments on the talkpage. Chensiyuan 13:28, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Dick Bavetta--1998 NBA Finals

Hey, there! Great work on the Dick Bavetta article. It needed a complete rewrite. I restored some information that was deleted before you rewrote it. It involves the infamous missed shot clock call on the Howard Eisley 3-point shot in the 1998 finals. I really believe this moment should be included in his article. It was one of the defining points of his career, as are the other instances in the article, and it had an impact on a championship. I read a Rocky Mountain News column about a year thereafter that dubbed it one of the worst calls in NBA history. It is totally verifiable (and therefore NPOV) that he missed the call, and he became public enemy #1 in an NBA city because of it. I hope that you will agree with this addition to an article that is essentially your creation. It should stay there, because it really is a pretty major event in Dick Bavetta's officiating career. MahlerFan 11:56, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I am on both sides of the fence on that one. I think it is notable enough to be included in the entry, but the "villified" statement at the end is VERY POV-ish, and if it were to be re-added, it would have to be written in a NPOV way. FamicomJL 00:09, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm still going to press this point because I think I provided ample references for it. It is an extremely significant call because: (1) it is not just a missed call, but a horribly missed call. Replays showed the time not expiring until the ball was halfway to the basket. (2) it happened in the game that ended up deciding the finals. Definitely NOT just "another missed call." (3) it fed into the MANY conspiracy theories that revolved around and still revolve around this particular game. (4) It may be slightly POV-ish, but Bavetta WAS a target for boos in Salt Lake for years. That's why I gave a newspaper article reference on it. Verifiability mitigates POV, and it's verifiable that Salt Lake fans booed him for years. (5) A strong case CAN in fact be made that it was one of the worst missed calls in the history of the NBA, so I maintain that the call should be retained in Bavetta's article. Is there any way to have somebody arbitrate this? It's certainly as significant as the Earl Strom stuff.

MahlerFan 03:11, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Check out this article: http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/sports_columnists/article/0,1299,DRMN_83_5642315,00.html

This is the writer who, in 1999, dubbed the call one of the worst in history. That article is no longer available on the Rocky Mountain News's site. This writer is bringing up the call nine years later in the context of the Donaghy scandal as a notable moment of ineptitude in NBA officiating. Note that the paper is a DENVER paper, not a Salt Lake one. Denver ain't exactly overpopulated with Jazz fans (who are the Nuggets' primary rival). I don't see how you can argue in good faith that the call is not notable. By any standard, it is. If I were arguing "Jordan pushed Russell," I could see your point. This is far less subjective. MahlerFan 03:26, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

The call is notorious, certainly in Utah and beyond. It may have even had something to do with the NBA instituting a review policy on shot clock calls. Sure seems notable enough for the article on the guy who made the call.128.138.42.218 06:14, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Undrafted free agents in NFL infobox

Hi, I'm writing you because you have previously posted on Template talk:Infobox NFLactive and I would like your opinion on an addition I made that is being contested. I have added a field to the infobox called "undraftyear", and when a year is entered it adds a line under a guy's college that says "Undrafted in 1997" or whatever year is appropriate. I did this because I felt there should be something noting a guy went undrafted, similar to the info for drafted players that was already in place. To see how this would look in an article, see here or here. If you would be in favor of this edit, I'd ask you to kindly voice this at Template talk:Infobox NFLactive#Undrafted free agents. It is being contested by one person because they feel the year should not be there. I feel the year is important, just as the year of drafting is important. I also feel that since we have an NFL debut section in the infobox as well as a listed of teams and years played for each, it wouldn't cause any confusion. So if you're okay with this edit or you'd like to get in the discussion, I'd encourage you to do so. Thanks!►Chris Nelson 22:23, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use disputed for Image:Eden Prairie Mall.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Eden Prairie Mall.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:24, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Zidane_Elizondo.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Zidane_Elizondo.jpg.

License tagging for Image:Bill Carollo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Bill Carollo.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 06:06, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Irv Gack requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Thomas.macmillan 16:34, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

FL Main page proposal

You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination this year. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual main page will resemble either an excerpted list format or an abbreviated text format. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 18:49, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Yes you do know who did the edit, it was wikidon, not me as it shows it in the edit history. The only reason I left some of that nonsense on the talk page for "AD" and your user talk page was because I drank a little to much last night and to any sane person that should be obvious. If you had any common sense at all you'd have a little laugh and delete it as it was nothing mean spirited nor was it in any way attempting to harm the wikipedia project, but instead... you decide to go commando and declare war on me as if I was somone inserting vandalism into articles left and right and deliberately insulting you or something. Seeing as you are a college grad, at least you claim to be, especially from UW Eau Claire which is a pretty good school I think you would be smart enough to understand that it is not a big deal. --E tac 06:14, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
I don't think I ever touched any articles or ruined anyones hard work, please show me where and when I did that. Also if you don't know me perhaps you should have assumed good faith rather than calling me a vandal. --E tac 06:26, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Please explain in detail how any of my edits were "made in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia". If you can do that, then I will agree with you. --E tac 06:40, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Show me when and where I inserted "nonsense into articles". --E tac 18:16, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Really, because that is not what Wikipedia:What is an article? says. --E tac 18:43, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Ext. Lnks. > Double Check

Are you sure about this: "Per policy, external links that are used within an article as a reference should be removed." Need a double check please. WikiDon 01:48, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Well, I think we should use the link. If we followed that policy, about 90% of the articles on corporations and organizations would be in violation. If you look at most any corporate article, they use the corporation website as the major reference and put it as the most prominent external link (which you should). If you contribute an article about CAT the CAT website will be a very good source for material, and because it is about that company, it should be an external link as well. I would guess that more than half to three-quarters of the articles on Hollywood and TV use IMDb as both a major reference and a very prominent external link. I think we should look at the bulk of the articles on Wikipedia, and if we did that, the totality of the number of articles that use their a main external link, also use that same link as their main source, and the source that the article was most like originated from in the first place. If you contribute an article about Madonna, you would hope that her website would be accurate and you have to put it in as an external link as well. So, since his Vikings page is just about his only page, I think it should be in the article. If there was a adrianpeterson.com that would be good, or even a oklahomafootball.com/adrianpeterson site, but, about the only page that I know of is his Viking page. Civility

Hi, sorry to bother you. Please remember to remain civil in your dealings with other editors. Comments like this are liable to inflame situations and are unlikely to contribute to the betterment of Wikipedia. Just a friendly request to tone it down a little, and I am making no comment on the rights or wrongs of whatever you were annoyed about. If I can help you in any way, just ask. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Walt Coleman.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Walt Coleman.jpg.

Thank you.BetacommandBot 19:35, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Adrian L Peterson

I believe the term would be "overkill" in your approach. I appreciate it appears to be your stylistic approach to editing, but nonetheless it's easier to simply cite what is there - than to remove, then replace within the space of 5 minutes, no? Simply quoting WP:BLP doesn't actually validate what you are doing - particularly as you appear to be picking on extremely weak subjects; like removing him crossing 1000 yards...

Given WP:BLP's reference is to "poorly sourced contentious material"[[1]] I really do think you're taking the letter of the law in exactly the wrong way.Koncorde 00:09, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Hochuli pic

My take on using the autographed picture is that you would have to have been the person who actually took the pic in order to use a GFDL or other such license. However, I would still encourage you to use another fair-use rational and use the pic it for the infobox, because I bet it's a high-quality image that would still be a really great addition for the article. You could also try looking around the Help:Contents/Images_and_media page and see if there's anything helpful. Monowi 04:55, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Featured List of the Day Experiment

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 21:59, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Dawsonkick.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of descrption pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. βcommand 06:22, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Jeff Triplette.jpg)

⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:Jeff Triplette.jpg. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Andy Olemgbe, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
