Spamlinking the See also sections

While I appreciate your zeal, spamlinking osteopathy in so many See also sections (sometimes even when irrelevant!) is just not right. Wikilinking the terms IF they appear in a relevant manner in the text is okay. -- Brangifer (talk) 15:29, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Editing Help Question

Hey Rytyho, I have a question for you. I see that you are very experienced when it comes to properly formatting/fixing the formatting of citations. I'm working on the Touro University California article right now and I have been receiving comments when I ask the community how to further improve the article on the references. They say the references are bare references and something is wrong with the dating/dash formatting but I don't know how to fix it further than I already have. I have already put them through reflinks/the linkrot template tool and I don't know what the next step is. Would you be willing to help me? Thanks in advance. Sincerely, TylerDurden8823 (talk) 17:40, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

P.S. I also don't know how to merge citations and could use help doing that as well. Thanks again! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 17:52, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Rytyho, thank you very much! Your explanation was precisely what I needed to fix the article. I had other editors review the article and tell me the references needed fixing but they did not say in what respect except that some of them were bare URLs. That cite:web template really came in handy and was quite easy to use. I'm sure there's still more work to be done on the article but it's taken a nice big step forward because of your help. Thanks again and if you ever need help from me, know that you've got it! Sincerely, TylerDurden8823 (talk) 02:24, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
That's great! I'm glad it was helpful for you - the touro article's looking really good (nice work!). Cheers, Rytyho usa (talk) 18:03, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks man, the pages you've been working on look terrific as well. I have another question I would like to ask you. Are there any pitfalls or things to be aware of when creating a new wikipedia article? I ask because at some point I would like to work with you to create the rest of the American Osteopathic board pages that are red linked and need to be made. I'm slammed at the moment but find a little bit of time here and there to edit but won't have time for a project like that for a few more weeks. Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 05:40, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
There's a few things to keep in mind. I think the biggest thing to try to keep the article is establishing notability, which is not always easy, but most articles that really need to be created will have somewhat obvious notability. That's probably the one that is most likely to get an article deleted. Otherwise, just building it to be strong article is helpful (plenty of reliable citations, with at least some from 3rd party sources, etc). I'd definitely be happy to work together on the board articles; I might write some more here and there over the next few weeks.Rytyho usa (talk) 17:09, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
Also, I have another question for you. On the AOBOS article it mentions that there are a thousand+ physicians with active certification in the AOBIM. I went to the reference and didn't see that and don't know if you meant the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine or something else. Can you clarify for me? Thanks! Sincerely,TylerDurden8823 (talk) 06:07, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Sure thing - that was a typo, I meant to indicate the osteopathic board (AOBS). The number is a summation of the different numbers of osteopathic surgeons in each specialty. I looked in the article for a less indirect source of the total number, but didn't find any. Does that make sense? Does that seem reasonable, or do you think we should pull the citation? Rytyho usa (talk) 07:04, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

I think it can remain for the time being as long as it is understandable how that number was calculated. If someone else should ask and you tell them that I think that's reasonable. That being said, I think we should continue to look for more direct sources that have this figure to improve the citation further. We can always improve citations but I think it's fine to leave it for the moment. I was just confused about it is all. The typo was what threw me. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 17:31, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
Also, would you be willing to help me out with the dermatology page? It's the first page I've created so I want to make sure it's done right but I don't know exactly how you calculated the figure for how many physicians with active certification there are from that source we discussed (if CAQ counts or not, etc). Thanks! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 23:01, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
Absolutely - I went ahead and added the number of board certified D.O.s to the dermatology board page, using only the primary certifications, since I believe you need primary certification in order to be eligible for a CAQ. I added the coordinates for the AOBD headquarters, too. I'm definitely glad to help in any way that I can! Rytyho usa (talk) 23:45, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
Wonderful, I'm glad you're willing to help me out and your edits so far have been very helpful, so I'd like to thank you. If you can help me on the Otolarynology/ophthalmology page that would be great, I think it needs more (coordinates and I can't seem to find the establishment year, categories, and anything else you can think of to make it better). Thanks Rytyho! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 04:30, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
Sure thing - I just made those changes. These pages are coming right along! You're welcome, I've definitely appreciated your contributions as well. Rytyho usa (talk) 05:17, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
So, the board pages are pretty much done although I'm sure some of them could use brushing up here and there and get more specific, add more information, etc. The only one I couldn't find much information on was the proctology board which doesn't seem to have an independent website from the AOA list. Also, I wanted to thank you for adding the coordinates and the other fixes (I had no idea about no redlinks in the see also section and I then corrected that in a few other articles that I did that in) the only other one that looks like it needs coordinates is the Neurology/Psychiatry one. If you have any thoughts on how to approach the Board of Proctology article, I'm all ears. If there are any other pages or projects you would like to work on let me know. I think this went very well and was a big step in the right direction. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 17:47, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
The board pages look great! Thanks for putting the time into getting those articles started. Definitely, if I come across any additional sources, I'll be sure to update them. Also, I've just added the coordinates on the Neurology/Psychiatry article. I'll definitely be in touch if I need some help on future projects. Feel free let me know you have any other pages that you'd like some help on. Rytyho usa (talk) 21:22, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
Very cool, hit me up anytime! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 00:34, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
P.S. Any ideas about the Board of Proctology article? TylerDurden8823 (talk) 02:02, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

I just put together a start for the proctology article. It is somewhat difficult to find sources on it, and the lack of a website is another challenge, but I think we've got enough to support an article right now. At this point, we can add to it as we discover more information about the board. How does that sound? Thoughts on the page? Rytyho usa (talk) 05:07, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Looks good so far. I guess I just had trouble imagining how to get it started but since you've done that I think it's a good start. I'll join you in adding sources to it to solidify the article.TylerDurden8823 (talk) 05:28, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
Also, I had another idea for an article that doesn't seem to currently exist. I think there is currently no National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) page to parallel the National Board of Medical Examiners page. What do you think? I don't think it would be too difficult to make that page. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 08:01, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
One more question, do you know how to upload logos to wikipedia pages? I don't know how. I was looking through some pages and I thought that it would be a good addition to the osteopathic board pages to add their respective logos. Let me know when you get a chance. Thanks! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 07:25, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
I just uploaded all of the logos for the osteopathic boards that I could find; there are a few left without logos (dermatology, family, OBGYN proctology, neuro/psych, and preventative). For image uploading, I use the upload wizard. There are a lot of different types of images that you can upload, but I usually upload logos. As I understand it, it counts as "fair use" as long as the copyrighted logo is only used to identify the organization.
That'd be good to have a page on the NBOME, especially since a page already exists on the NBME. I agree - I don't think it would be a difficult page to write. It wouldn't need to be very long either. Rytyho usa (talk) 03:18, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
Awesome job on the logos. Any ideas how we can find the other ones? I see the ones up are off of their websites. Also, is there a way to sharpen an image in terms of resolution or is that dependent on the website image itself? I'm sure it'll be fine to use the logo that way and if not I'm sure they would be willing to give permission if asked. I think I'll get an NBOME page started soon if I figure out how. If not, I'll let you know I need help. I couldn't find much more for the proctology board page but I added one reference that I could find.
Also, I made the NBOME page but I could only find so many resources. I'm sure there's more that can be added to it. If you think of anything else to add to it feel free to contribute to it. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 04:57, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks - I'm not sure where to find the other logos; it's even possible that some of the boards don't have logos, but it's hard to say. Contacting them might be a good route to take.
I don't know of any way to sharpen the contrast of the images; I know some of them are fairly blurry, especially the internal medicine board logo. If at any point we discover a better quality version, then we can very easily replace the existing version. The NBOME page looks good, I ran a few quick searches and we produced pretty the same sources. I might look for a few more sources in a bit. Rytyho usa (talk) 10:55, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
I found a picture that looks like it would be good for the logo for the American Osteopathic College of Occupational & Prevention Medicine. I'd upload it if I knew how but since you're the expert on these matters, I'll leave you with this (feel free to delete it after you use it, I realize the link is a large one and takes up a considerable amount of room): http://www.google.com/imgres?q=American+Osteopathic+Board+of+Internal+Medicine+logo&start=943&um=1&hl=en&safe=off&authuser=0&biw=1440&bih=660&tbm=isch&tbnid=wO1Ca4nttdm_sM:&imgrefurl=http://www.aocopm.org/&docid=PgCEWoBQhti90M&imgurl=http://www.aocopm.org/templates/mc01-jt/images/AOCOPM_logo.jpg&w=745&h=743&ei=V5luUK_xEM7xigLZyYHACQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=327&vpy=263&dur=1518&hovh=224&hovw=225&tx=112&ty=92&sig=116344796256424883122&page=29&tbnh=147&tbnw=147&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:13,s:943,i:222
Looks good - I just uploaded the image to that page. Thanks! Rytyho usa (talk) 01:08, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
Next project I had in mind is creating the rest of the American Osteopathic Colleges/Medical Specialty colleges. So far I've only made one (American Osteopathic College of Radiology) but I'm going to do the surgeons one next. Let me know if you have any interest in working on that with me. I'm continuing to look around to see if I can snag bigger/higher def logo pictures for the board pages. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 21:58, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

That sounds great - I'd definitely be interested in working with you on those pages. Rytyho usa (talk) 22:22, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Found a logo picture (a small one) for the AOBFP and the COSGP (let me know if the links don't work or you have any problems with them): http://www.bing.com/images/searchq=American+Osteopathic+College+of+Radiology&view=detail&id=4C2489648CE43C89FFCFEE7D518A99D15CDB59C6 http://www.nycomsga.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/COSGPLogo.jpg
Small picture for the American Osteopathic College of Radiology: http://rays.net/NightRays/media/RaysImageLibrary/Accreditation/img_AOCR.gif a possible sharper AOBIM picture:

http://www.pearsonvue.com/pvueImages/clients/aobim/AOBIM_logo.gif TylerDurden8823 (talk) 05:25, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

One of these might work better for the AOCR page, I think one of these pictures will be better resolution: http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-prn1/162060_162120013833703_1631493708_n.jpg http://www.nycomsga.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/aocr.gif http://www.eventshealth.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Logo_AOCR_q3.jpeg I think the first or second one is the best bet since those are larger pictures. Let me know if these are any better. I'll continue to look for other ones. I did find a good one for the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine for when we make that one in the future. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 16:04, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
I also thought this might be good on WVSOM's page: http://careers.insidehighered.com/files/styles/medium/public/images/institution_profile/logos/west_virginia_school_of_osteopathic_medicine.gif and perhaps this for "The DO" magazine: http://www.osteopathic.org/inside-aoa/events/omed-2012/PublishingImages/the-do.jpg I hope I'm not overwhelming you with all of these images. If I am let me know and I'll slow it down haha. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 00:45, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
No worries, I've got everything updated, from what you've posted to me so far. It's good that the WVSOM page finally has a logo - I think it was the last D.O. school article without an image/logo. I think the current logo on the AOCR page is the best one - after all, it is the one that's on their home page, and the resolution is pretty good. Keep 'em coming! Thanks for the help. Rytyho usa (talk) 02:17, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Did the COSGP link not work? If not, I can find it again. Thanks for getting the logos up so fast! I'll keep trying to find more. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 02:25, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Here's a logo (and I think it will be a good resolution) for the AACOM page which I noticed didn't have a logo picture: http://aacomas.aacom.org/images/logo_aacom.gif ,this one should work for the AAO: http://www.hsc.unt.edu/orc/CustomContent/AAO-Logo.gif and this one might work for AOBFP: http://www.vue.com/pvueImages/clients/aobfp/aobfp_logo.gif TylerDurden8823 (talk) 03:05, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Last one for today-a good one for the NBOME: http://i2.nbome.org/registration/Images/NBOMELogo.png TylerDurden8823 (talk) 03:17, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
So, I found a pretty good picture for the AOA page which might be better than the one that's already on there (I think it's got better resolution even though the current one is pretty good in that respect). Have a look: https://si0.twimg.com/profile_images/855478544/AOA_281_vertR.jpg TylerDurden8823 (talk) 22:45, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
I also found a logo picture for the AOBOG and they still use this one today: http://www.acoog.org/Libraries/Miscellaneous_items/aoboglogo.sflb.ashx TylerDurden8823 (talk) 22:53, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Hey Rytyho, just wanted to say thanks for putting up the logos (they look great by the way). I wanted to ask you if the AACOM and COSGP logo links I sent you work. If they don't, I can resend them to you or find different links that actually work. Maybe I messed up on the copy & paste if they don't work. Thanks! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 17:20, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the reminder - I must have overlooked those two images. I think we are all caught up now - everything I have should be uploaded and added to the appropriate pages. Thanks! Rytyho usa (talk) 22:47, 15 October 2012 (UTC) The logos look terrific Rytyho, thanks for putting those up. I found a much better picture for the Alabama COM for its page: http://67.222.51.75/samcfoundation/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/ACOMLogo.jpg TylerDurden8823 (talk) 07:36, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

This might go nicely on the NYCOM page to replace their blurry logo: http://www.nycomsga.org/pulse/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/NYCOM_SGA-Blue-gold2.jpg TylerDurden8823 (talk) 16:23, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
I also found a better one for the Edward Via COM: http://vcomdo.com/acoep/wp-content/uploads/vcomlogonew.jpg TylerDurden8823 (talk) 07:40, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Hey Rytyho, I don't know if this link is going to work for a SOMA logo but give it a shot. I'm working on creating the page now. If it doesn't work, let me know, I picked this one because it was the largest, highest def picture I could find but there were other decent ones too: http://www.google.com/imgres?q=student+osteopathic+medical+association&num=10&um=1&hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&authuser=0&biw=1441&bih=640&tbs=isz:m&tbm=isch&tbnid=A3Fe5gI3eAsmqM:&imgrefurl=http://www.facebook.com/NationalSOMA%3Ffilter%3D2&docid=EBEQTfvI9h8MiM&itg=1&imgurl=http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/c0.8.851.315/p851x315/221448_485151848179814_669683766_o.jpg&w=851&h=314&ei=igODUKbpDeiDiwLamoGACA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=890&vpy=349&dur=432&hovh=136&hovw=370&tx=183&ty=43&sig=116344796256424883122&page=3&tbnh=93&tbnw=220&start=44&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:28,s:20,i:219
Hey Rytyho, the SOMA page is up. Let me know if the link works or when you put the picture up so I can see how it came out. Same thing for the high-resolution AOA logo for the AOA page (I think it'll come out even better than its current logo). Hope you had a good weekend! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 04:01, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Hey, thank you for putting up those two logos, they both look terrific. When you have a chance in the near future, could you replace the logo on the Touro University Nevada page with this high-resolution version? I think that will look considerably better. Thanks again, and I hope you're doing well on your end! https://iwantmytranscript.com/system/institutions/logos/49/original/Touro_University_Nevada.JPG?1292419759 TylerDurden8823 (talk) 05:51, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine page

Hey Rytyho, I saw that you fixed up a lot of the citations on this page after the major changes that happened today. Very much appreciated. I did notice one thing at the bottom-the international licensure portion has a redundant line that is literally repeated twice but has slightly different citations so I didn't want to mess with it. I thought I'd let you know so you can have a look at it and put it the way it's supposed to be. Thanks man, hope all is well. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 09:10, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up: it looks like there was a sentence that was duplicated in the article. Good catch! Rytyho usa (talk) 18:15, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
I reported that guy EmetHodge for vandalism. It might help if others do too. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 19:55, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Apparently what he's doing isn't vandalism (he got blocked 24 hrs for edit warring) but this would be a content dispute. First place to discuss is talk page (which I saw you did already so that's good) and then DRN if this guy keeps it up. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 07:27, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
I suspected that might be the case; I think vandalism has to be really offensive (more than even strong non-NPOV).Rytyho usa (talk) 09:09, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi again, I also found an AODME logo that I think would go nicely on the page (it currently does not have a logo picture). I think it should be sufficient resolution and it's the only one I could find on a google search that fits the bill: http://www.oucom.ohiou.edu/News/stories/aacom08/images/index.3.jpg Let me know if it works and thank you very much (I know I've asked you to do a lot of these images). TylerDurden8823 (talk) 06:20, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for putting up the AODME logo. It looks great. Please be sure to let me know if the TUN logo works. Thank you! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 04:57, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
I got it - the new Touro image is uploaded! Rytyho usa (talk) 08:51, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
Looks terrific, thank you! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 19:33, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Osteopathic medicine in the United States Graph Question

Hi Rytyho, I have a question for you regarding one of the graphs in this article-specifically the line graph showing DOs going into AOA residencies or ACGME residencies. I noticed that this graph is now a bit out of date as it only goes up to around 2006 so I wondered if there were newer available versions showing this same data. Do you think we would be able to use the image in Table 1 from this paper here? http://www.jaoa.org/content/112/4/196.full or do you think we would need JAOA or AOA permission first perhaps? Either way, I think it's worth looking into to see if we can update that figure. Let me know what you think. I'll be on wikipedia for a little while but I'll check in now and then and see what's happening. Take it easy. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 06:27, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

Hey Tyler, yeah, I agree - that chart could use some updating, as well the "first year enrollment at DO schools graph." For the DOs in ACGME and AOA residencies graph, I don't think we can upload the table from that JAOA article without requesting permission, and I'm not sure if that needs to come from the authors of the article, or the JAOA. Alternatively, we could try to tinker with the existing table to add on the last 6 years (since the author, Hopping, released it to the Commons), or we could make an entirely new chart. However, for that we would need numbers, ideally in a table format. Unless we find a good table somewhere, it seems like it'd be a hassle. Probably the best bet would be to get permission.
The table on first year enrollment on the osteopathic medicine in the US page could also use some updating. The AACOM data page has pretty good info available here. I've forgotten how to make a table in excel, but I'll work on it at some point, see if I can figure it out again. I recently updated the international practice rights map, and the map of the locations of DO schools in the US. These pages are coming right along - cheers! Rytyho usa (talk) 07:58, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
Also, let me know if this picture works. I think this would be a good replacement for the old NYCOM logo: http://www.nycomsga.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/SGALogo610x3401.png TylerDurden8823 (talk) 05:53, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
One more-one of these two pictures might work for the DOCARE logo. They're small pictures but it's better than nothing. http://www.nycomsga.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/DOCAREInternational-150x150.png http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-ash4/373160_39165251902_821967117_n.jpg TylerDurden8823 (talk) 17:04, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
I uploaded the DOCARE image, and I agree - it does help, though it is small. However, I don't think we can use the new NYCOM image because it looks like that actually represents the NYCOM student government association (SGA), not just the college itself. Rytyho usa (talk) 20:51, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good, I'll see if there are any better logo pictures out there. I haven't seem them yet but it may pop up in the future. Thanks for putting up the DOCARE one, it actually looks better than I expected. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 21:47, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Also, the Charles Sophy page could use a picture. I was thinking perhaps this one but there are many to choose from when viewing the google search: http://www.bonusfamilies.com/uploads/bios/drsophy.jpg TylerDurden8823 (talk) 02:25, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Hey Rytyho, quick question, did you make the osteopathy template thing? Either way I have a suggestion. I think perhaps we should make an osteopathic medicine template if one does not exist or modify the current one if it does exist instead and attach it to the appropriate articles. The reason I say this is because I think there is a great deal of confusion/conflation of non-physician osteopaths and osteopathic physicians and if readers see the "osteopathy" template, I have a feeling they're going to continue to confuse the two. Let me know what you think, it should be a pretty easy thing to fix, don't you think? TylerDurden8823 (talk) 04:42, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
I did create the new template, and I've also thought about that osteopathy vs osteopathic medicine confusion as well, although I'm not sure of the best way to address it in the template. I briefly had the template named "Osteopathy and Osteopathic Medicine," but since that name seemed a bit too long, I shortened it to just "Osteopathic Medicine".
Overall, the template is about osteopathic medicine; the only links that pertain only to non-physician osteopathy are the links to "Osteopathy" and the "international list of osteopathic colleges." Of course there are also the techniques, but those are performed by both D.O.s and non-physician osteopaths. Since the template is primarily about osteopathic medicine, do you think we should eliminate the links to "Osteopathy" and "List of international colleges"? I knew that further adjustments to the template would be necessary, and totally welcome any thoughts or suggestions you might have to offer. Rytyho usa (talk) 07:59, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
Okay, so when I go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Osteopathy it takes me to the template that you made about osteopathic medicine. I think we should rename it to template:osteopathic medicine (I realize one already exists and perhaps rename that to osteopathic template 2 or 3 or osteopathic template A or whatever is easiest but not osteopathy to avoid all confusion). I think the osteopathy article and list of international osteopathic colleges definitely could be on a separate one as well and that the American osteopathic medical schools should probably be on a different list altogether from the "international list of osteopathic colleges" since having them all on one list makes it sound like they are the same thing when they are quite different in the scope of what is taught. The rest I think is okay, I think it is okay to have the various OMM techniques on there since they are common to osteopathy and osteopathic medicine. I think perhaps list of osteopaths should be on a separate template as well since again this might contribute to confusion. AT Still and SS Still, which list they belong on or both...is a bit of a judgment call to be honest since they founded osteopathy and osteopathic medicine. I don't think having them on both would be terrible. Anyway let me know what you think. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 18:19, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
Those sound like reasonable changes. When I described the name of the template as "Osteopathic Medicine," I meant the name shown at the top of the template itself that is visible to all readers when it is included at the bottom of an article (not that it really matters - just clarifying what I meant). I agree though, it could be confusing to wikipedia editors having the name of the template be Template:Osteopathy, so I changed the name of the template's page to Template:Osteopathic medicine3 .
I also removed the links to the list of osteopathic colleges, Osteopathy, and Osteopaths. I think we should leave SS Still and especially AT Still since they were important in the history, founding the two first colleges of osteopathic medicine in the US. Thanks for the feedback. Osteopathic manipulative medicine page

Hey Rytyho, if you're up to it, I have a new project to work on and I'd like to ask you if you would like to work with me. I'm currently working on the osteopathic manipulative medicine page right now and adding the contraindications for the listed OMT techniques for the sake of completeness, balance, neutrality, etc. However, I've only done HVLA and Counterstrain so far so if you have other ones for other techniques that would be awesome and if you can help me find sources to cite for this (if there are any reliable ones for us to find) then let's do that. Let me know if you're interested! Also, did the link for the Charles Sophy picture I sent to you work out okay? Thanks! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 00:43, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Sure thing, I'd be happy to help out on that page. Looks like the OMT pages in general could use a bit of help. The Charles Sophy picture link worked great, but I'm just not sure about uploading images of people. I don't know much about the copyright issues. I've looked around a bit, but I'm not sure how to tell the copyright status of that sort of image. The image policy on wikipedia is fairly complex, and at this point, I've only uploaded images that are official logos of organizations or pictures that I have taken or created myself. I'll investigate a little bit more, and let you know if I come up with anything useful. Rytyho usa (talk) 07:28, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Idea

Hi Rytyho, I had an idea and it's a quick one. The idea is that perhaps we should work on creating a category for osteopathic hospitals in the United States. Just a thought. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 05:55, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

That might be a good idea. I thought about adding them to the osteopathic medicine category, but there is quite a few AOA-accredited hospitals, and they might deserve their own category. It would be better for anyone trying to use the category system to find additional articles about osteopathic medicine, because the hospital articles wouldn't clutter up the page. I'm not sure what the criteria are for establishing new categories - I made one for physician assistant programs in the United States and it was deleted because it wasn't notable enough, or relevant enough to the universities that offer PA programs. However, looking over the category policy on wikipedia, I don't see any reason why there shouldn't be a category for osteopathic hospitals. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to make the category, and if anyone objects, we could discuss it further. One advantage of creating a list instead of a category is that it could include "missing" articles, or hospitals accredited by the AOA that don't yet have a wiki page. Rytyho usa (talk) 10:04, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
I think I like the list idea better actually.TylerDurden8823 (talk) 16:23, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
on a separate note, I could use your help on the Osteopathic manipulative medicine article. I'm adding a section in right now about lymphatics but I'm struggling with it a bit in terms of deciding what to put in, etc. So far I've just put a very basic description and referenced a recent review article about it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks Rytyho! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 05:18, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
Looks like you've seen it already, but I've expanded the lymphatic pump section on the OMM page. It'd be nice to have a more complete, general list of contraindications - I looked for a resource with that information, but couldn't find one. Most of what I came up with were articles about very specific contraindications for lymphatic techniques, like the traumatic brain injury patients. Perhaps when we find some more broad info on contraindications, the brain injury info should be moved to the lymphatic technique page. I think the history and research info makes a good addition to the OMM article though. Cheers Rytyho usa (talk) 21:48, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
I did see and thank you very much for helping and so quickly at that. I put up a more complete list of contraindications though they are relative contraindications, citing Savarese's OMT 3rd Edition book as a reference. I'll see at some point soon if a different text has anything else to add on that matter. I'm about to add more complete contraindications or descriptions of other techniques from Savarese if anything is really lacking from what is currently there. Regardless, the article has more than traumatic brain injury as a contraindication for lymphatic pump treatments now. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 02:36, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

Question for you

Hi Rytyho, I hope you're doing well, I have a quick question for you. Can you tell me how to upload pictures to wikipedia? I would like to add a picture to the cystoscopy page ( I think it's that page if I remember correctly) depicting Hunner's Ulcers but I don't know how to upload pictures to wikipedia nor how to properly screen for images that are okay to put up on here. Any wisdom you have on this will be greatly appreciated. Let me know if there is anything you would like help on or to work on together as well =) Sincerely, TylerDurden8823 (talk) 22:16, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

I'm definitely happy to help, although I'm not quite an expert in image use.
Sometimes you can just use the file upload wizard, and the licensing might be fairly straightforward. It walks you through how to upload images and when "fair use" applies. It's a very user-friendly too. However, if you're not sure whether it's okay to use the image, then you might need to do some research. I'd check out Wikipedia:Uploading images for more info. Of course, if it's your image, then you can just add it, without any issue or copyright concerns. Also, any images that you find published by the U.S. government are free use. It might be worth a bit of searching for free images on wikipedia, and on other websites, just to see if there is an equivalent image available. There are some tools at Free Images Resources.
Once you've successfully uploaded the image to wikipedia, whether it's through the commons or elsewhere, then you can add it to any relevant articles. Wikipedia:Picture tutorial is a good resource for learning how to adjust the formatting, adding captions, etc. In general, the format looks something like this: [[File:Image name|thumb|Caption]] ]
Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions. Cheers! Rytyho usa (talk) 03:26, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

WPMED

Thanks for tagging articles for WikiProject Medicine. Unfortunately, anatomy articles are not within the scope of the project, so some of them will have to be removed.

By the way, you're free to assess articles for Stub, Start, C, and B-class if you want. The instructions are at WP:MEDA. WhatamIdoing (talk) 01:44, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

I noticed that you were starting to pull those ocular anatomy articles from WPMED. My apologies - thanks for the link to the scope section on WPMED. Thanks for the heads-up, I must've overlooked that part of the section explaining the scope. I'll likely be assessing articles soon. Thanks again. Rytyho usa (talk) 03:06, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello there

I'm interested in WP:A4SE and it seems you're affiliated with an assignment originating from Ohio University. Could you fill me in? Do you know how much the professor knows about Wikipedia? Are they an experienced Wikipedian? How are the students graded? Who helps them pick assignments, etc.? Thanks! Biosthmors (talk) 02:13, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Biosthmors, I'd love to help, but I don't know anything about the process, and I'm not affiliated with any assignments in any way, from Ohio University or elsewhere. Sorry! Sounds like an interesting project, though; I hope it goes well for you. Good luck! Rytyho usa (talk) 02:25, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
O well. Well thanks for tagging articles as under WP:MED. Best. Biosthmors (talk) 02:28, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Wiki Med

Hi

I'm contacting you because, as a participant at Wikiproject Medicine, you may be interested in a new non-profit organization we're forming at m:WikiMed. Our purpose is to help improve the range and quality of free online medical content, and we'll be working with like-minded organizations, such as the World Health Organization, professional and scholarly societies, medical schools, governments and NGOs - including Translators Without Borders.

Hope to see you there! Anthonyhcole (talk) 04:44, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll definitely look into this. Sounds like a great project! Rytyho usa (talk) 09:26, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Your edit to Hip

Your recent edit to Hip had a syntax error, which I have fixed. But since I don't have the sources, and probably wouldn't understand them if I did, please check that the "knock-knees" paragraph is referenced to the sources you intended. -- John of Reading (talk) 21:20, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Those citations look appropriately placed. Thank you for the heads-up, and for correcting the syntax error. Rytyho usa (talk) 02:18, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
