Thank you very much for signing up for the July Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two and a half years, all the way back to the beginning of 2008! We're really going to need all the help we can muster to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. Reviewer rights

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

Thank you, I appreciate the invitation. Among university, a 110-mile relocation, and an extended visit from my family, it's likely that I will have little time for copyediting and my contribution would be paltry at best. However, may I ask if the Guild of Copyeditors places a high priority on not converting to US spellings inappropriately? I have noticed well-meaning (and experienced) copyeditors converting entire articles to North American orthography based on a word or two, and regardless of the article's scope or provenance. I hope that "familiarity with the MoS" includes recognition of and appropriate implementation of regional variations of English. For example, would an American copyeditor skip a British spelling-article if they are unfamiliar with British usage? In my experience, "drives" of this sort with awards at the end encourage editors to leave off such considerations. Good luck with all that! Yes, that's a good suggestion. Personally, I do not do these types of conversion. I can spell British, US and a combination of both (e.g. Australian), and all are acceptable to me. However, you do raise a good point and I will put together a guide that will be placed on GOCE's main page as a general policy for spelling. - S Masters (talk) 09:03, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
Ooooh, thank you! That will be great! I don't think we should be shy about regional variations of English and should embrace them, instead of suppressing them through ignorance. (Although I have to admit that allowing SI units to be spelled in an American way (metres comes to mind) is a disgrace!) What I added to the article RuneScape is in fact what many RuneScape players and others feel about the game.
