Welcome![edit]

Hello, SPCian Health Scientist, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Information icon Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. --VVikingTalkEdits 14:13, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, SPCian Health Scientist. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you.--VVikingTalkEdits 14:13, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem icon Your addition to San Pedro College has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. /wiae /tlk 10:43, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

SPCian Health Scientist I recognize that you are new to Wikipedia and that some of our processes may seem arcane, so I thought I would leave you a more detailed explanation. There are two problems with your additions to San Pedro College thus far: copyright concerns and conflict-of-interest editing.

  • The vast majority of text you find online is actually protected by copyright. This means that it can't simply be cut and pasted into Wikipedia as is. Rather, what you should do is paraphrase: rewrite the text in your own words, summarizing the key points so that the essence of the source is retained but without copying the wording. This also holds true for some of your additions to San Pedro College. For example, the text of the school song is original creative content that would most likely be protected by copyright, and so we wouldn't include it in a Wikipedia article. Another example is the section that I have removed on San Pedro College's logo, as the text comes directly from the school's website. As for the school history section, I have removed this text presumptively; in its place, you will see a blue and white template mentioning copyright concerns. This is a placeholder that we use to indicate a pending copyright investigation. Some of our experienced volunteers will have a closer look in the coming days or weeks to assess whether it is a copyright violation. In the meantime, please do not reinsert the text.
Now, if you are an agent of the school, you may be wondering how you can authorize Wikipedia to use that text in an article. There is indeed a process for licensing text for use on Wikipedia. It is discussed and covered, along with a helpful tutorial, at WP:DCM. However, I usually do not recommend trying to license this kind of text for use on Wikipedia: the text on San Pedro College's website is written in a rather promotional tone. That's fine (and expected) for the school's own website, but it doesn't align with the encyclopedic, neutral tone and point of view that are required on Wikipedia. As such, I think you would be better off simply rewriting the content in your own words after the copyright investigation is closed.
  • This leads to my second concern: conflict-of-interest editing. Judging from your choice of username and from the subjects you have been editing on Wikipedia, it seems likely that you may have a conflict of interest. Further, if you are being paid to edit Wikipedia (if part of your job description is maintaining a Wikipedia page, for example) then you must disclose this in accordance with Wikipedia's terms of use. Having a conflict of interest means that you really shouldn't edit articles like San Pedro College. It's not technically prohibited, but the reality is that the vast majority of COI editors find it incredibly difficult to write neutrally and objectively about their COI. This is, for example, reflected in some of the promotional text that you have added to San Pedro College and to Catholic school.

I hope this clarifies the two major issues I have raised. My suggestion would be to propose changes to articles relating to San Pedro College on the talk pages of those articles, and to generally avoid posting any material on Wikipedia that you have copied and pasted from another website. You are welcome to reply here or to leave me a message on my talk page if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you, /wiae /tlk 12:17, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add soapboxing, promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. Mean as custard (talk) 11:27, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
