Paul Sather birthdate and birthplace[edit]

Hi - Thanks for adding to this article. I was just curious where Sather’s birthdate and birthplace are coming from? I created the article and could not find this information. This info can be somewhat sensitive in biographies of living persons if not publicly available and must be verifiable. Is this info published somewhere publicly-available like a news article or a media guide? Thanks and happy editing. Rikster2 (talk) 23:15, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. You should probably just check in with him and make sure he is Ok with this info out on the web. Some folks worry that it can be used for identity theft and such. Thanks. Rikster2 (talk) 12:07, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Paul Sather.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. College basketball articles / navboxes for Division II and lower[edit]

SS2027, just wanted to let you know that it's a WP:CBBALL guideline to not create any team seasons or general team navboxes for schools that are Division II or lower, unless specific notability can be established on a case-by-case basis.

Examples: {{Northern State Wolves men's basketball navbox}}, 1902-03 Northern Normal and Industrial School men's basketball team, 2020–21 Northern State Wolves men's basketball team, and {{2020–21 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men's basketball standings}}.

Can you please provide references here that show me these aren't worth putting up for deletion discussions? I'll give you a day or two to get those third party reliable sources found, but if no clear notability can be established, I plan to submit all of them for deletion. Wanted to give you a fair heads up. Thank you. SportsGuy789 (talk) 05:55, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you respond here I will see it. The reason that DII and lower are not created unless specific notability is established is a consensus among the college sports' WikiProjects (football, basketball, baseball) due to the overwhelming likelihood that DII and lower doesn't receive enough coverage to pass general notability guidelines; our WikiProjects have battled for over a decade in AfDs against nominators who nominated DII and lower. Far more often than not, the articles get deleted, so our WikiProjects came to a consensus to not create those articles/templates unless absolutely certain they're an exception and can be proven to be notable. For example, any Division II, III, or NAIA men's basketball team season who won their respective national championship is notable. But, in the instance like the 1902–03 or 2020–21 Northern State teams, rule of thumb dictates that they aren't meaningful / notable in and of themselves. It's also why 'Template:Northern State Wolves men's basketball navbox' shouldn't be created, because 99% of the links on it will always remain redlinks due to unestablished notability. SportsGuy789 (talk) 15:52, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense, I can understand that if there isn't enough coverage on a team then the page shouldn't exist. I personally think there is some room for at least DII eventually, but is that's not the standard now then I completely understand. (SS2027 (talk) 05:42, 12 January 2021 (UTC))[reply]
Like I said though, DII and lower it's case-by-case. If any of those season articles can be properly sourced to show notability, they're worth keeping. If not, they don't pass GNG standards. Do you want to attempt finding substantive, third party references to beef them up? Or go straight to deletion discussions? SportsGuy789 (talk) 02:17, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, I'm confused because I can't understand tone over text of course. Do you actually want me to find sources for the articles? If so I would only do the 2020-21 season and not the first year of existence. I was originally planning on doing 2017-18 and on because Northern State has been dominant and won three straight conference championships and three straight tournament championships and are probably on the road to make it four in a row. They're ranked #2 in the nation right now, so they'll probably end up pretty high. We can delete the (I believe it is) 1902-03 season, but if you do want me to find good sources for the last four seasons I will gladly do so, because I'm sure there's plenty (Northern State is pretty well covered by the local media). (SS2027 (talk) 06:45, 13 January 2021 (UTC))[reply]
Sorry about that - yes I was encouraging you to look for sources. I was unaware that Northern State has three-peated as regular season and conference tournament champions and are currently ranked #2 in Division II. That streak of success in itself means there's likely to be enough coverage on each of those seasons individually to warrant articles (coverage meaning, it has to be written articles about the success of the season, not just routine box scores and game recap coverage). Please do look for those sources for the recent seasons! The 1902–03 season will need to be deleted though. SportsGuy789 (talk) 16:23, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sound good, I'll get right to that (SS2027 (talk) 18:41, 13 January 2021 (UTC))[reply]
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article 1902–03 Northern Normal and Industrial School men's basketball team is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/1902–03 Northern Normal and Industrial School men's basketball team until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Template:Northern State Wolves men's basketball navbox[edit]

SS2027 – I can tell you're a new and eager editor, so I didn't want to delete {{Northern State Wolves men's basketball navbox}} because I think you'll be very active in making articles to turn those red links into blue links. I went ahead and removed all of the seasons which aren't notable (diff), and left hidden comments next to each of the remaining seasons as to why they probably deserve stand-alone articles. I used the Northern State 2020–21 media guide's Records & History section.

If you'd like to start focusing on NSU season articles, the ones remaining on the team navbox would be the ones to target. Thanks! SportsGuy789 (talk) 05:54, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
