Science article[edit]

Very good catch on the article on science. If you can do things like that Wikipedia needs all the time you can give it.

If you make 10 good edits and wait four days, your username will be validated, and then you can make changes to semi-protected articles yourself without making requests. Just start making good edits (even spelling corrections) to non-protected articles. And wait and be patient.

Request reason:

Caught by a web host block but this host or IP is not a web host. it is simply the address of my vpn. I use VyprVPN as the British government is becoming more and more intrusive, and censors a number of communications. I usually use the VyprVPN in Oslo, Norway. If it would help I could also use a VyprVPN outlet in the USA. I hope you would be prepared to unblock me. I am known; have been an editor for a number of years. I have never done anything unpleasant, illegal or spammy. I have several edits I want to make, including putting up a complete article for the first time. i am prepared to give you any information about myself that you require. is it possible to unblock me and allow me to contribute again? Many thanks! SamLinscho (talk) 21:07, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

VPNs are considered anonymizing proxies and are routinely blocked. You will need to find another way to connect to the internet if you want to edit Wikipedia, sorry. Huon (talk) 21:14, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

afaik there are millions of users of vpns; there must be lots of them also who are wikipedia editors. if it's policy that's fine, but given that vpns are really quite common, why not specifically say so on the blocking policy page? That would make it clearer, and avoid you and others wasting their time responding to individual situations. it would also allow perhaps, over time, users to query whether that is a useful policy. It will no doubt stop people contributing from the many really unfree places such as China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, who cannot work other than using vpns. So, to be honest, I won't protest it, I will comply, and find a way to take my vpn down when I communicate with wikipedia. But it lessens my commitment as a wikipedia editor, as it makes it much more cumbersome to make occasional smaller edits. i think it's wikipedia's loss.... Thanks for your prompt answer. Decline reason:

The unblock request is not for asking questions; it's for making a request to be unblocked. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:13, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
