New route map for Podilsko-Vyhurivska Line‎[edit]

I saw you changed the style of the route map to WP:RDT. I'm not against it. Quite the contrary, I was one of the contributor to the RDT project. The only problem with {{Podilsko-Vyhurivska Line}} is that you use the CPIC icons   to represent the interchanges, this set of icon is supposed to indicate the interchange which provides cross-platform interchange layout, or to a lesser extent, all platforms of different lines are on the same level. Which is clearly not the case for all the interchanges in Kiev Metro. So I would suggest you apply the HUB set    like Russian and Ukrainian versions do. You can retain the current color (the u-set icons  ) because the alternative color icons do have some accessibility issue. Or another option for you is to display the   (TRAM) beside   (uINT) like {{Beijing Subway/4‎}} does. I will leave the judgment to you. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 10:00, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, yeah, I had a lot of trouble with trying to figure out how I was going to lay out the template. It's definitely not set in stone at this point. I did a lot of experimenting to try and figure out how I would do it, and I'm still not 100% satisfied with the result, which is why I decided to test-run it on a line that's still not finished.
The way that Ukrainan transfer stations work is there is a tunnel that leads from one station on one line to another station in another line. Since you were one of the contributors to the RDT project, your feedback would be greatly appreciated, since you know a lot more about what those icons were intended for. Any ideas on what would work best for that type of transfer? HUB set? Feel free to edit the template on that line to change it to whatever you think is best, and I'll just mirror it on all other stations later.
P. S., I do know about including TRAM and Railroad icons (as you can tell from my Sandbox), but I decided to work all of the other kinks out first. And nobody has a clue yet on how the Vokzalna transfer station is going to work. — Alex Khristov 12:54, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sokolnicheskaya line route diagram changes[edit]

Hey there Sameboat, or, if you prefer, ni hao. Yesterday, after about an hour, a querey I had about Sokolnicheskaya Line route diagram was answered, and fixed, by User:Monty845. This was because it was giving me trouble at User:buggie111/List of Moscow metro stations (v2.0). However, you reverted Monty's edits because what he changed made the Sokolnicheskaya Line article look bad. Could it be possible for me to make another template that transcludes the route diagram in the way my userspace page needs it, while keeping the older one for use on the Line article? Buggie111 (talk) 13:29, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries[edit]

Hi Sameboat, your recent edit to Trans-Mongolian Railway is a great improvement, but I notice that you did not leave an edit summary (I have added this page to my watchlist for the time being, should you wish to reply here). Tim PF (talk) 22:03, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry my edit confused you. But edit summaries isn't obligatory unless someone starts questioning and reverting. The change is to improve the usability of WP:ROUTE which previously frequently required 3 separate templates to form 1 single header of the route map table. Now {{BS-map}} groups these templates together to reduce the burden of knowledge. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 01:05, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Whilst it is true that edit summaries are not obligatory, they are recommended, and It is considered good practice to provide a summary for every edit. Since you are making the same sets of changes to many pages, the edit summary should be the same for each. That should make it easier for both you and others to quickly check which pages have already had that change. Tim PF (talk) 19:38, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

Hi Sameboat, I (think I) understand the whole disputed borders in asia debate fairly well, and I've got no particular bias either way. And it's very nice of you to give me a heads up on which way you stand, but I'm trying really hard to avoid any long political debate. If we can get a consensus on the 'guidelines to apply' then any edit wars should finally subside (or at least have a guideline to fall back to - that might not be set in stone, but at least is generally agreed for now). I'm no admin, but it appears (fairly reasonably) that wikiproject maps has become the spot for the debate on borders and how they are portrayed, so I'm dragged in, and do hope a consensus does occur between the disputing 'factions' but I don't know if I feel quite responsible enough to be the final arbitrator of what is consensus. Hi, thanks for telling me about your being pro PRC (it does not affect the weight of your argument for me), I am happy to listen to both sides, and will try to find a compromise. But in the end it will not be my decision, it will need consensus from the people who are currently disagreeing. I will try to help EdwardLane (talk) 11:46, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Accusation[edit]

I definitely never called "Jimbo a tyrant". You are well over the line. Drop the stick.--andreasegde (talk) 20:33, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not a fan of euphemism, so in my view what you've said in your Free Speech topic clearly indicates your POV on Jimbo's policy on his own talk page. "they are not going to allow anyone to disagree with them;" "It's about CONTROL." Tyrant likes controlling everyone, limiting free speech, if it's not enough to compare one with such behavior a "tyrant", what else could do? But believe it or not, the "tyrant" claim was intended to describe those from Wikipediocracy. Again, their accusation of Jimbo's relationship with some Kazakhstan's official is clearly ill-willed. That's why such topic is now removed on sight and they're banned from Jimbo's talk page. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 23:27, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sameboat, I come here to notify you about my request to delete the mentioned template. While I am waiting for the changes to BS-overlap and BSpx to be executed, I am planning to clean up the series of {{BS-table}}s (2, 3, 4, 5), which confused me a lot and are largely redundant.

I also will probably request {{BS-table2}} and {{BS-table4}} for deletion, since they are used quite infrequently and the their codes are pretty similar. I guess their distinctions from other BS-tables has pretty much faded. — Peterwhy 06:56, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

BS-map changes[edit]

Hi) I don't know what were your intentions with recent edits to {{BS-map}}, but I certainly prefer the way it looked before in the following aspects: 1) The brackets around [hide] in the header are always (?) black now, and not e.g. white as the rest of the header text. 2) The title isn't centered vertically in the header row. 3) Quite puzzlingly, in Chrome at 125% zoom (but only then) info3 & info4 now look substantially smaller than before, as if they were 80% size instead of 90%. Info2 didn't change in size. How could that be, especially that no changes to {{BSrow}} were made?.. YLSS (talk) 19:04, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, I did a live test of the inline parameter at Orange Line (MBTA)#Historical routes. YLSS (talk) 21:18, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  1. This is an old issue of MW-collapsible, changing it back to the traditional collapsible will allow the button always inherits the font color of the header row. (Edit: moved {{#if:{{{title-color|}}}|color:{{{title-color}}};|color:black;}}}} to the master div element so the collapsible brackets are now at least governed by title-color.)
  2. I add the pad against the collapsible button to prevent overlapping of title text with the button, similar to you did in Routemap module collapsible section.
  3. Possibly because Chrome's zoom is not technically a "magnifier" but simply multiplying the font-size. AFAIC, numbers after decimal point is truncated rounded in font-size definition. I changed the font-size in {{BS-map/map}} to 121% which is previously defined as 110% twice separately (1.1*1.1=1.21). But this should need more trial and error until the right font-size is met.
  4. Orange Line (MBTA)#Historical routes appears broken in many rows for soft return. I guess you need to define the width of each cell to avoid that. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 01:47, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

URGENT! Would you mind undoing whichever change you made that now colors ALL the text (not just in the header bar)?! Useddenim (talk) 02:02, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I overlooked the consequence because the text in the map is usually linked and overrides the color change. I added color:#000 in {{BS-map/map}}. Does that fix it? -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 02:09, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It actually seems to be the editor’s fault: he included an extra Template: in the |navbar= parameter. Useddenim (talk) 02:13, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

After some more experience with the inline parameter, I want to ask: maybe it should also suppress the header? Otherwise, one always has to noinclude the title text. And I think it's unlikely that anybody would need an inline version with a header (or is it?). YLSS (talk) 11:41, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think although it makes sense, at the same time the map template using the inline parameter would better use {{rdt intro}} instead of using the title parameter to tell what article/system the map serves. But you can proceed with your proposal. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 14:34, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

discussion about the figures of Nanking Massacre[edit]

Snorri offered a new table which I can see many western historian who support the death figure range from 200,000 to 300,00. Thus I think current figure 40,000 to 200,000 is not Neutral. Please go to the talk page of Nanking Massacre and leave you passage.I just want to know whether you agree my proposal. Thank you. Miracle dream (talk)

Route Maps - tw (template width????)[edit]

On a different, but very real problem.... Experimenting with theSouth Line route map, I think its safe to say I messed it up bad.... Where did I go wrong? the tw? (I don't consider myself stupid, so If you have the time to explain it to me or refer me (instead of fixing it without explaining), the chances of me doing this in the future will be far less.I've tried reading up on "tw" but all I can find is on This page and I don't feel it was very informative. Last time I had this problem you changed from BS3 to simply BS - if this is what has to happen, how do I align a bs template? Wiki ian 17:14, 21 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Layout disaster"[edit]

There are no testcases and it would've made no difference if I tested it in the sandbox; I'd have simply had to check every transclusion. As for why it is better to use the infobox's title field, see here. It would've also helped if you pointed me to this "layout disaster" -- rather than offering rubbish advice. — lfdder 22:26, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Help, please! I'm obviously doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. Thank you. Useddenim (talk) 00:34, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Useddenim: I modified the structure but it still need to be used via substitution because {{BS-overlap}} need to check the file name of the base icon. The raw parser of {{BSdist}} (and the similar template) confuses the file embedding syntax, resulting x20px. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 01:41, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Trackers[edit]

I looked at the HTML source and could find no evidence of trackers. Maybe a third-party browser addon on your PC is adding them? --NeilN talk to me 15:15, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@NeilN: I am not internet security guru, but even Ad Block+ detected adamaihd.net for every single Wikimedia page. I'm using Firefox latest stable version without any mod except for few plugins like NoScript and Ad Block+. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 15:23, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I use Firefox too. Have you checked your list of plugins and extensions for any unfamiliar ones? --NeilN talk to me 15:27, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@NeilN: NoScript, AdBlock Plus and Classic Theme Restorer (because Firefox makes refresh/stop button immovable) are all the extensions I ever installed. I also changed all plugins to "ask to activate" or "never activate". I disabled Classic Theme Restorer, but akamaihd.net still shows in NoScript and AdBlock Plus. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 15:37, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sound as if you have malware. --NeilN talk to me 15:48, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There was the SearchMe Toolbar which looked suspicious. Akamaihd.net no longer loads after I uninstalled it. Thank you. It really tricked me when AdBlock Plus reported the source of that unwanted akamaihd script was from Wikimedia. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 16:05, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re: New London railway map and Re: MTR map[edit]

Hi Sameboat,

  • Thanks for spotting the error in the London tube map! I'm fixing it now (unlinking Bakerloo line Edgware Road from Circle/District/Hammersmith & City lines Edgware Road).
  • Yes, I agree it's a good idea to keep the IDs; this was an artifact of the settings in the compression software, which I unfortunately didn't fix.

File:London Underground Overground DLR Crossrail map.svg[edit]

I'm not sure there should be a National Rail logo within the Woolwich symbol as there is no rail station of this name. Also I think it should say Crossrail is opening FROM 2015. But it's a great map!   JaJaWa |talk  17:08, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@JaJaWa: Thanks. Woolwich is an interchange for NR because it's denoted so in the route map in Crossrail official site[2] (but the new "tube map" is inconsistently silent about this[3]). The actual nature of interchange is not specified, but given the short distance between the three stations (Crossrail, DLR and NR) it's possible single-journey OSI will be designated once the station is open. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 22:19, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The National Rail station is at Woolwich Arsenal so I thought maybe it was just appropriate to have the National Rail logo within the Woolwich Arsenal symbol - it's then connected to Crossrail by the OSI. The Crossrail website does seem confused about this. :)   JaJaWa |talk  01:35, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@JaJaWa: I agree, and I find that I was not consistent in this notation because OSI for NR is also available for Ickenham to West Ruislip (NR) but I used the normal interchange icon for Ickenham. A question from me: I'm not sure about how "Farringdon-Barbaican" and "Liverpool Street-Moorgate" will end up like. Will they be merged into a single "hubs" respectively so passengers can travel through these stations on foot without exiting ticket barrier (like Bank-Monument)? I can't get the answer from Crossrail website. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 02:11, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes that's correct - the Crossrail platforms will be 250 metres long (about the distance between 2 tube stations) with escalators at either end. The Crossrail station will be positioned between Farringdon and Barbican so one set of escalators will rise into Farringdon station and the set at the other end of the platform will come out at Barbican station. Same applies at Liverpool Street and Moorgate.   JaJaWa |talk  02:56, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@JaJaWa: So literally there will be no ticket barrier between Farringdon & Barbican or Liverpool Street & Moorgate (at least through the Crossrail platform)? -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 03:26, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Crossrail may have a separate ticket gateline at Farringdon and Barbican, but yes - you will be able to walk from the Crossrail part of Farringdon station down an escalator, along the Crossrail platform and up an escalator into Barbican station. Same again at Liverpool Street and Moorgate.   JaJaWa |talk  15:23, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Guess we need to wait patiently until the opening of both stations to make sure about the actual strutures of paid area. Sorry for troubling you. --Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 17:40, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Moving articles[edit]

Thank you for contacting me. I don't understand your comments about Wikidata and conflicts. The links you provided don't tell me very much. With respect to my "obligations", like other editors, I am a volunteer. In this case, I was not moving a page in which I am interested. I am trying to clean up the backlog at Wikipedia:Requested moves, and have settled 23 of them so far. But if you explain to me what the "conflicts" were, I can take a look at them as I continue clearing up the backlog. Ground Zero | t 12:20, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for fixing this for me. I am completely unfamiliar with Wikidata, so I am glad you noticed this and took care of it. regards, Ground Zero | t 13:07, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate location maps[edit]

I noticed that you created a lot of new location maps that have the exact same boundaries as existing ones. The AlternativeMap parameter exists specifically so that you don't have to do that. Can you please change all of the articles you recently edited to use that method? Jackmcbarn (talk) 14:58, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Jackmcbarn: I can't. {{infobox station}} lacks the AlternativeMap option and the template is fully protected, leaving me no choice but to create a new location map data. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 15:46, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't know that. Anyway, I just added one, so now you should be able to switch them. Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:15, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Jackmcbarn: OK. I requested bot operation because don't wanna go through that +100 edits again. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 22:53, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I took care of it. By the way, when you converted the SVGs to grayscale, why did you save them as PNGs? Now somebody will have to redo the conversion as proper SVGs and then edit all of the pages again to replace them. Jackmcbarn (talk) 23:23, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Converting maps to Lua[edit]

There's a procedure outlined for converting maps to Lua at Template:Location map/doc/Converting map definition templates to modules. Please don't convert any more maps to Lua unless you follow this procedure. Jackmcbarn (talk) 23:21, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking care of that now. Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:41, 12 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting my edits on RDTs[edit]

Why are you reverting my edits to RDTs, as with this one? --Redrose64 (talk) 01:18, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's intentionally done that way so the editor can access the RDT syntax template page directly. The template page without the name "route diagram" is a container template to be included in the Moscow Metro station articles. Not a fabulous way because some station articles still haven't been updated to avoid the usage of the container templates. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 01:19, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That is bizarre! An RDT transcluded into the {{BS-map}} template? Useddenim (talk) 02:15, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Redrose64 and Useddenim: That's because some Moscow Metro station articles (e.g. Troparyovo) are using the {{Infobox station}} which transcludes the raw "route diagram" template; the others like Fili don't and instead are using the "container" template. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 02:55, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There should be a better way, one that puts it all in one RDT with a parameter to configure whether the headers etc. are displayed or not. --Redrose64 (talk) 10:43, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The best way would be to update all Moscow Metro RDTs to use BS-map with inline=1, and all the articles to use just map={{Template}}. I started doing this in some cases, but... YLSS (talk) 10:58, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Man, hold on, I'm working on that, you just spammed me with edit conflict notices :( YLSS (talk) 14:02, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Humph... I stared for some time at "toward anticlockwise / outer" at Serpukhovskaya and decided that there has to be a special parameter for circular lines at {{S-line}}. Found only blank cells at TemplateData, and browsed to this discussion. So, what's the situation now? Should |circular=1 be added to all stations with a transfer to the Koltsevaya? Or is it possible to add something somewhere so that it is automatically deduced if line=Koltsevaya? Could you please also add that to template documentation? Thanks. YLSS (talk) 21:06, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@YLSS: I almost forgot I've ever made that request in the first place and am surprised to see it has been added by the admin. So the simple answer is just to add |circular=1. I have no clear idea by the moment on how to let the S-line template automatically decide if a line is operated in the circular/spiral manner, but I don't rule out that possibility. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 00:29, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Whew,  Done! BTW: Do you still need {{Mosmetro}}? YLSS (talk) 14:03, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No longer needed. Thx -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 14:25, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
FYI: Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2014 November 25. YLSS (talk) 20:46, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@YLSS: Added the stabby dagger in line 1, 3, 4, 9 RDTs to denote "indirect transfer". I'm aware the dagger earned some notoriety in older London Underground tube map due to overuse but I think it's sort of acceptable here because the usage is very restrained and the popup annotation is immediately available to reader, albeit useless for mobile reader. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 08:53, 25 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I added this to {{MOSMETRO-bull}} via fifth parameter set to indirect. As if I had foreknowledge of this, I had been replacing all usage of fifth parameter to CPIC instead of simply 1, both here and at ru.wp. So now something like that can also be done for OSIs to the Monorail. I only retained the brackets but not the dagger to save space (otherwise, expanding the RDT at Aleksandrovsky Sad made the infobox jump a bit). If you want, feel free to return it. BTW: notoriety? That's interesting. Could you please tell more? ;) YLSS (talk) 21:06, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
GJ. About the dagger notation disaster, read this. I came across this blog post while making my version of the London Underground map, this blog post made me lol and the dagger is not his only complaint. Many criticize modern official alternations to what was known to be the classic and pioneer of a legible schematic map, such as fare zone and wheelchair blob. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 21:49, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@YLSS: Just noticed the topic on ru.wp Moscow Metro talk page about ArtSwan's update of the metro map. I want to bring your attention to their persistence in retaining the old name, Lyublinskaya, of line 10 instead of "Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya" (23 char) as can be seen here ("Проблемы цветовосприятия" section). Not to mention that the full name is in fact shorter than line 9 "Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya" (28 char) so I honestly don't see the rationale behind the decision of using the full name of line 9 but not line 10. Apparently this practice continues in their latest update of the metro map. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 14:54, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thameslink on London_Underground_Overground_DLR_Crossrail_map[edit]

Any reason why Thameslink is omitted from this map? Otherwise it is a great resource I hope to use once all the building is completed in 2018 and I visit my home town again. Also, what is the process you used to create this map, it says you used a text editor? ByteofKnowledge (talk) 18:22, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@ByteofKnowledge: The map is meant to show the complete network of TfL in a much more compact size. If I add Thameslink, it will raise the question/demand of adding more non-TfL services which can be counterproductive. Writing SVG file in text editor (I use Notepad++ and refresh the browser each time I save my SVG for preview) is similar to writing HTML webpage with lot of CSS vector objects. I guess it's much simpler than coding php. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 03:26, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
