Removal of maintenance templates[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from Thomas Jefferson High School (Rockford, Illinois). When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Information icon Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Thomas Jefferson High School (Rockford, Illinois), without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. The Banner talk 09:47, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Please, do not remove the maintenance templates without solving the issues. The whole article reads as a big advertisement to show how great and superb the school is. Unfortunately, you don't use any reliable sources for it. Conform Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources you should try to find independent third party sources. The website of the "Illinois High School Association" is definitely not independent nor a third party source. Try to find articles in the local citywide newspaper. Or a state-wide newspaper. Other reliable websites can do too, as long as they meet the requirements of reliability. Note: Linkedin, Facebook, YouTube, (most) personal blogs and other social media are seldom regarded as reliable sources. The Banner talk 09:59, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Are you alive?[edit]

Please stop removing the maintenance templates without solving the issues. You are making one hell of an advertisement out of the article, based on sources that are unacceptable. What the article needs are reliable, independent sources. Websites from the school, the alumni association or the Illinois High School Association are NOT independent sources. Please replace them by other sources, like newspaper articles.

And please respond to this request, so I know your are taking this serious. Your removal of maintenance templates is bringing you close to a block/suspension of editing rights. The Banner talk 09:57, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please, please, please, stop removing those maintenance templates. The Banner talk 10:30, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please, please, don't be so stubborn. Refrain from removing those maintenance templates. The issues mentioned are not solved at all. And please, respond to my begging here! To be true, I am very unhappy with the necessity to request a block for you. I had warned you often enough plus requested and begged you to start a meaningful discussion. But unfortunately, not a word. Please, let us engage in a discussion to make clear what you did wrong and what has to be done with the article. The Banner talk 15:11, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As is obvious from looking at this page, you are getting yourself in trouble over your editing at the above named article. FYI, there are guidelines for content on school articles. You will find them at WP:WPSCHOOLS/AG. Some of the referencing you did on August 6 was helpful. Thank you for that. What was not in any way helpful was all the wikilinks you inserted in the article. See WP:OVERLINK. Also, I had reverted an earlier addition of less than state championship achievement from the article and changed the accompanying text. When someone removes content from an article, you do not just put it back. To do so is called edit warring and it is a good way to get blocked again. Instead, you start a discussion at the article's talk page and reach a consensus with your fellow editors. Please familiarize yourself with WP:BRD and WP:BURDEN, two policies on this subject. If I can be of any assistance, feel free to drop me a note on my talk page. Gtwfan52 (talk) 06:19, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, I urge you to take advantage of the links you were provided near the top of this page on how to get started editing Wikipedia, and especially the link to the teahouse. The people there will answer your questions in a helpful, and reasonably non-technical, way as so to help you figure this all out. Editing Wikipedia is far far from intuitive. There are many things about the process here that really don't match up with much in real life. I am not going to get into a debate on whether that is good or bad, but you have to know that it is what it is. Almost any process or endeavor you will enter into in life has some sort of a structure of rules and constraints. Wikipedia is no different. I am going to join The Banner talk in begging you to slow down, open up to suggestions and critiques and please please stick around. When you are not butting your head against the wall, you show quite a bit of promise as an editor. Gtwfan52 (talk) 06:28, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:2006-07 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Journalism State Champion.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:2006-07 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Journalism State Champion.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:31, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Sammy Mandell.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. September 2013[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. At least one of your recent edits, such as the edit you made to Thomas Jefferson High School (Rockford, Illinois), did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at the welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make some test edits, please use the sandbox for that. Thank you. Redlinks serve a purpose. They indicate articles that need to be created. Substituting a link to a list that has no details subverts that process. Also please note that the "flagicon" template has been depreciated for use on school articles. If you see it on a school article, please substitute a wikilink to the country instead. Thanks. Gtwfan52 (talk) 21:12, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree File:Sammy Mandell.jpg[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Sammy Mandell.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you object to the listing for any reason. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (tc) 23:29, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please talk to me here, I want to help[edit]

Sanningshalten, I really enjoy helping out new editors, please talk with me here, I'm a nice guy. You have done a lot of great work here, but are also getting yourself into a lot of unnecessary headaches. I want to help you not get more headaches. We can start with all that great research you did on the List of people from Rockford, Illinois. Your work is not gone forever. In fact, it's really easy to add back. All you would need to do is find a citation that says those hockey players lived in Rockford. If not, we can find another article to add that great work to. --Dkriegls (talk to me!) 05:07, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Continuing our conversation[edit]

I'm really glad to see that you enjoy editing Wikipedia. You have contributed some really great edits and you keep coming back! I answered you on my talk personal page, but am continuing our conversation here on your personal talk page. It is true that there is a lot of bureaucracy with Wikipedia that can be intimidating. But this is why we created the concept of WP:BEBOLD. We want you to take chances and learn by making mistakes. No one expects you to know all the rules around here. No "person" has authority over your edits. The only authority is who has the best sourcing for their edit or what a group of Wikipedia editors reach a consensus on when the sourcing isn't good enough. So if you make a mistake that doesn't fit one of our guide lines, just ask what it is, read the guideline, and see if you agree with the person who deleted your edit. So for instance, when I deleted all that great research you did on Hockey players from Rockford, I have no special status the means my deletion trumps your edit. When I deleted the materiel, I said the list was only for people who lived or were born in Rockford. You mentioned on my personal talk page that these athletes did live in Rockford. Unfortunately, the sources you found didn't confirm this information. Normally what we would do, is you would go on the talk page for that article at Talk:List of people from Rockford, Illinois and tell me you think they did live in Rockford. We would then work together to find a source the confirms what you believed. Luckily, every edit on Wikipedia is saved, so all we need to do is find a good source for you claim, and I can put the information right back into the article with one simple click. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
