Assessment from an article page[edit]

Thank you for helping out with the Biography assessment drive. Good news. Outriggr recently designed a script that will cut your biography assessment time down by about ten fold (what took ten hours now may only take one hour with Outriggr's script). For more information, please see the 'assessment from article page' discussion. -- Jreferee 20:22, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

John Osborne[edit]

Please create a comments page explaining your rating of this article. Thanks. El Ingles 00:22, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you haven't responded by the end of Monday 12th March I will remove the tag. El Ingles 19:39, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I created a comments page that explained my rating, shortly after you contacted me. I'm sorry, was I supposed to post them someplace else as well? I haven't been a reviewer for very long, I've just been rating articles as part of the WikiProject Biography assessment drive, to help clear out their huge (130,000+ article) backlog. So please excuse me if I've made some error in following the proper procedure. --Sapphic 08:25, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, that didn't pop up on my watchlist. I see it now and I'll add an infobox. No chance of copyright-free photos, however. The guy's dead and I can't run over with my little digicam. El Ingles 15:59, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The work is now done, but I'm looking for an infobox style that allows bgcolor definition. El Ingles 20:04, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anna Wintour[edit]

While, as the editor who's held himself out as a maintainer of that article, I'm flattered and pleased by the A rating, hwo did you justify it given the two statements flagged as needing citations? I know people who would fail a GA nom on those grounds (I have, for one).

I think I can source one and perhaps take out the other. Hope that won't be fatal to the rating. Daniel Case 02:58, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Am I right in assuming that you've assessed the article as a Good Article? And what is that article assessment script beta version something? Berserkerz Crit 16:39, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gheorghe Tătărescu[edit]

Hi, Sapphic, and nice to meet you. I happened to notice that you recently tagged Gheorghe Tătărescu as a B-class article, and, as the main contributor to the article, I would like to ask you if you could perhaps point out what you see as its major weaknesses (aside from the lack of pictures, which I plan to work on in the future). I only spoke about it with a fellow Romanian, and it would help me if, as an outsider, you could perhaps comment on what the article is lacking. Rest assured, I know it is far from FA and even GA status, but it would help if you would point out if the current version is confusing and what you think ought to be expanded. Unfortunately, sources on the man are unusually scarce (it took me a careful search to find out if he was imprisoned or just a suspect in his later years, and it was through sheer serendipity that I could dig up anything about the Tătărescu's education); mostly, I would like to know if the problems you see are with the way in which the current version is written or with what needs to be added. It's an ongoing work, and your input would be appreciated. Thank you. Dahn 22:46, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for rating the article Kelsang Gyatso maybe you can help by leaving a short comment? --regards, --Kt66 14:31, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rudolf Duala Manga Bell[edit]

Hello, Sapphic. There already seem to be several such requests on your talk page, but would you mind explaining why you rated Rudolf Duala Manga Bell as B-class? That designation implies that there are significant problems with the article, and as such, I'd like to know what they are so I can improve the piece. Thanks, — Brian (talk) 06:46, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment without comments - Faye Wong[edit]

I note that you have assessed the article Faye Wong as B class. The guidance on classes indicates for B class, "Considerable editing is still needed, including filling in some important gaps or correcting significant policy errors". The article could do with more references; is that its only weakness? Several editors have done a good deal of work already and have all tailed off, presumably out of a consensus that it is pretty good now. - Fayenatic london (talk) 17:45, 14 March 2007 (UTC) (interest disclosed in user name!)[reply]

Thanks for nominating it for GA assessment! Fayenatic london (talk) 22:00, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Jackie Robinson[edit]

The article Jackie Robinson you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold. It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Jackie Robinson for things needed to be addressed. King of 19:45, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article Jackie Robinson you nominated as a good article has failed , see Talk:Jackie Robinson for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of said article. If you oppose this decision, you may ask for a review. The fail is because you have not addressed the issues listed on the talk page for 7 days. King of 05:21, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry. Apparently I don't understand the GA process well enough, because I didn't realize I was the one who was supposed to improve the article. I just came across it while rating articles for WP:BIO and thought it qualified. I'll limit my nominations to articles that I actively edit (or am willing to begin editing) in the future. Thank you, and sorry to have wasted your time. --Sapphic 23:25, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Links to Wiktionary[edit]

Hi,
I noticed that you disambiguated a link to precursor by piping it to Wiktionary. I can't find a relevant policy page right now, but I'm pretty sure that we're not supposed to link outside the project like that. I think we have two ways to deal with non-dabbable links like that one: remove it (and hope that the topic isn't too interesting anyway), or let it be (and hope that readers find the {{Wiktionary}} template). I've placed your talk page on my watchlist, so you may reply right here, to keep the discussion all in one place. --Smack (talk) 03:12, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I think point #6 of the "How to help" section of Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links addresses your point:
... when the link refers to a general meaning of the word, for which there is no relevant article, removing may be the most sensible option.
I had naïvely thought that leaving the link in place was preferable for being less disruptive to the article. I'll follow the advice and remove the link instead. --Sapphic 03:27, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've noticed the same thing with the High Priest and High Priestess links that you changed to wiktionary links using popups. They previously pointed to disambig pages which at least gave rudimentary information — whether there was any point in having them linked at all I'm not sure of - but that was far better than linking them to nonexistent wiktionary entries, which isn't helpful to the reader at all. When using these automated tools you really should check that what you're doing makes sense... Fuzzypeg 22:48, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I discover that the wiktionary:High Priest link does redirect after a few seconds to an entry for "high priest" (lower case), but that entry still has nothing of relevance to Wicca, the entry being entirely Christian-centric... Fuzzypeg 22:56, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

discrete probability distribution[edit]

Hello. May I suggest that when writing about a discrete probability distribution, you link directly to that rather than to discrete random variable, which redirects to the former title? Michael Hardy 18:49, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was replacing a link to a disambiguation page with one to a more specific page, and didn't notice that the more specific link was a redirect. Since the popups tool I use bases its choices on the contents of the disambiguation page (at Discrete) I'll update that page so that others won't make the same mistake. Thanks for the notice. --Sapphic 20:46, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Last push for the Biography Assessment Drive[edit]

We've done great work so far on the WikiProject Biography Spring 2007 Assessment Drive, reducing the 135,345 backlog by 38,626 to 96,719 as of March 20, 2007. We have only 6,720 more to go to get below 90,000. That would be outstanding and any extra effort that you can offer in these last few days of the drive (which ends March 24, 2007) would be much appreciated. If you haven't already, you may want to load Outriggr's assessment script in your monobook.js. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them on my talk page. -- Jreferee 23:19, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow[edit]

You are practically the only person, besides myself, who has done anything regarding the Transwiki log in the past year and a half or more. When I first came by the transwiki log, six months ago, there was a backlog stretching back to early 2005. Various bots will upload entries into the log, but no one else ever does anything with it from there. If you should ever want to drop by it again and do some more, please do, it's a bit much having to handle the entire thing myself. --Xyzzyplugh 10:39, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've passed this article for Good article status. Notes on talk page -KingPenguin 03:13, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
