Great idea!

Welcome!

Hello, Jonathan Groß, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  --Bhadani 08:23, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Took you guys a lot of time to recognize me. No problem, I'm not quite active. Anyway, I would prefer not to receive ^ that automatic message. I know nobody typed it himself for me, exspecially for me, for if you, Bhadani, had read my User Page, you'd seen my German account and could have checked my edits there and found that I'm quite settled in WP. There may be some differences (like the Categorization or the Criteria for pertinence (de) but I think I didn't screw up anything yet, did I?
But thanks anyway for recognizing me. --Sarazyn 08:45, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Berlin meeting[edit]

To make this a little more personal: of course you're free to come around if you can make it at such short notice...but I think it is nothing like the Berliner Stammtisch of the German wikipedia :)) Lectonar 13:14, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Guess not. Have you already defined the differences? :) -- SarazynTALKDE 13:31, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
We'll see...how much people will really turn up; no one has had much interaction with the other up to now; I made the invitations according to the category Wikipedians in Berlin. BTW, how did you get to the meeting page (just being curious here :)) And would you be so nice as to answer on my talk-page? Lectonar 13:39, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why on your talk page? I hate splitting discussions... there was some promotion on de:WP:T/B and I got curious... -- SarazynTALKDE 13:47, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's why: please respond on my talk-page so that my new message box lights up, as I will notice your message sooner. Thank you. And that's some kind of promotion. Hope you don't think I'm the devil incarnate. :)))) Lectonar 14:46, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For your efforts translating English articles about Chinese history to German, you are awarded the Rosetta Barnstar. (It would have been awarded on the German Wikipedia except I can't seem to find any barnstars there...) --Nlu (talk) 15:09, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

fair use image on your userpage[edit]

I am concerned that you are using a fair use image on your userpage. The terms of the use of Image:Doctor Zoidberg.png prevent it from being used anywhere except the article in question, and particularly not on userpages. Please see Wikipedia:Fair use#Policy and Wikipedia:Removal of fair use images for more information. I'd ask that you please remove this yourself, as I do not wish to disturb your userpage/userboxes. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 00:45, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wonderful user boxes[edit]

Saw your comment regarding permission to photograph Amish people. I left a comment there, It seems to be more an issue of politeness than legality. Not that manners can be over emphasized. But it is a much milder issue for the Amish, than several Oceania and Amazon peoples who believe their life, or their soul is being diminished or taken away when photographed.

But my primary reason for writing is to compliment you on your great user boxes. And herewith, a couple of mine. CApitol3

Thank you so much! As I recall, the Amish don't believe their souls can be captured by depiction, so you're right. SarazynTALKDE 01:03, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sarazyn

I'm also a German, but I translate from German wiki to English wiki. Somehow ended up here and less in the German wiki. I don't know enough about the subject to be able to say whether these comments are "crap" or not, but I do know that whether stuff on a talk page is valid or correct is not a basis for deleting the talk page. Help with a translation[edit]

I translated this from german to English in the article Punic military forces, but I'm not sure whether this is the best possible translation, so I'm open to suggestions.

Deutsch version of Wang Mang[edit]

Hi, I don't know whether you or someone else created the family tree image file in de:Wang Mang, but it is not correct to the extent that it stated that the Princess Huanghuang was Emperor Gengshi of Han's wife. Hey Sarazyn... you left the comment "Undecided" about Battle of Red Cliffs on WP:GAC. As long as that comment is there, no one else will review the article. They will assume that you have taken responsibility for it... Thanks! Ling.Nut 00:43, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OMG! What do I do? I just wanted to point out my concern. Can you take care of that? Sarazyn丁ALKDE 22:54, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(undent) Don't Panic. :-) I put it in WP:GA/R. That isn't standard procedure, but this isn't a standard case. Thanks! Ling.Nut 23:02, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not use "undecided" as a GA review result. Pass/Fail/Hold are your options. Undecided would fall under Hold. These last for no less than two and no more than seven days (extensions can be granted under certain circumstances). Seven days is the typical hold period, however. A detailed list of issues found needs to be listed as well. Periodically check progress. Once issues have been addressed, promote the article. If they are not met within the hold period, fail the article. If you only have concerns that you want to point out without actually doing a review, just leave a message on the article talk page and leave the GA/N page alone so that another editor can take the review.

I declined your speedy deletion request for Image:Werjae.jpg because it is not clear that the image is not PD. It would be better to request deletion in WP:IFD, where you can explain in detail why it is not PD. (Many sysops, like me, are not familiar with German copyright laws.) Pegasus «C¦ 03:30, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's quite simple: The picture was clearly taken in the 50s or 60s. This means that its author can't be dead long enough to be in the public domain. Therefore, the picture still is copyrighted and should be deleted. Sarazyn丁人LKDE 16:50, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your note about the Friedrich Solmsen article was much appreciated. How nice of you to take the time to leave it. Cynwolfe (talk) 21:40, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I seem to remember not being sure about Solmsen's year of birth based on whatever info I had, so yes, it's best to go with your source. I've written a very few articles on classical scholars, and most of them are quite insubstantial, but when I rely on a scholar frequently in writing other kinds of articles, I like to have a link to lend some substance to their authority. My user page has a list of articles that are mainly my work; the only one on a scholar that's anywhere near as developed as Solmsen's is Pieter Willem van der Horst, because after I wrote my usual bland stub, someone left a note pointing me to an extremely interesting controversy he was involved in. The only modern scholar I plan to develop a "real" article on at present is Elizabeth Rawson; I've now got the goods to do so, but must finish up a few other things I'm working on first. Cynwolfe (talk) 20:52, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I don't know if you saw my message the last time, but a blog is not a reliable source, so it cannot be used as a citation for Emmanuel Kriaras's date of birth. Furthermore, this particular blog proves itself to be an unreliable source by contradicting itself: How can he be in his 104th year if that article is from July 22, 2009 and he was born in November? That only works with the April date of birth, which was sourced to a news article about his birthday that has now gone offline. If you have a better source for the November birthdate, then I'll gladly accept the change, since the old source for April has disappeared, but a blog won't do, sorry. Cheers, CP 15:43, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm... interesting. Perhaps the best idea would be to put "November 1906" and add a footnote saying essentially what you wrote on my talk page? Cheers, CP 20:57, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings[edit]

Thanks, Jonathan, for your kind message on my talk page -- I'm sorry I was slow to reply, but I'm working hard on a conference paper right now (about the luxuries of King Solomon: not too far, in fact, from my usual subject area). Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)[edit]

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:21, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
