A barnstar for you, for your many Magic: The Gathering contributions

The Games Barnstar
Thank you very much for your copious contributions to multiple Magic: The Gathering articles, including Throne of Eldraine, Zendikar Rising,

War of the Spark, Ravnica Allegiance, Guilds of Ravnica, Kaldheim, Strixhaven: School of Mages. And thank you for using and citing numerous references, and from them, making substantive contributions. Al83tito (talk) 23:47, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

If you are taking requests (2021)

January 2021

One leftover from last year, I think that Heroes of the Feywild is in decent shape but could always benefit from anything you can find for it. :) BOZ (talk) 02:59, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

I couldn't find anything more for it outside of primary sources. Is there anything in Appelcline's Designers & Dragons that could be used in Editions of Dungeons & Dragons? I updated some info on the 4E essentials line based on what Appelcline wrote for product histories but the book is always a stronger source. Thanks! Sariel Xilo (talk) 18:58, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
I don't doubt that there is a ton of stuff in that book that could be used... it's more like, which specific points you would want to look for.  :) BOZ (talk) 19:00, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
I should probably pick the book up for myself at some point! Currently, there's a discussion on the talk page about essentially what it means to be a core book and what it means to be a revision vs a new edition (Unearthed Arcana 1985, 3.5, 4e Essentials, Tasha's etc). So I guess stuff that focuses on what rulebooks are considered core and how the editions are differentiated. Thanks! Sariel Xilo (talk) 19:09, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

I don't know what you might have for Gord the Rogue, but a couple of other more significant D&D characters were just nominated for AFD and could use your source-finding skills. BOZ (talk) 22:32, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

I added what I could to Tiamat. I'll take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons/Article alerts tomorrow and see what else I can help with. Thanks! Sariel Xilo (talk) 04:30, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

BOZ Here's an article on Candlekeep: https://screenrant.com/dungeons-dragons-candlekeep-setting-forgotten-realms-characters-history/ I think you keep track of sources for articles that have been deleted but could be brought back if better sourced. Sariel Xilo (talk) 04:34, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

Yes and no! I have done one thing, like I did with the character articles from those novel reviews you found, which was restore the previous content and add the new source, and then restore the redirect so that we have the content preserved for possible future use. :) I did have this page in part to keep track of D&D articles that may have potential for eventual restoration. I will add your source to Candlekeep tomorrow, for example. BOZ (talk) 05:39, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

And now another major Forgotten Realms character is facing the axe... BOZ (talk) 13:50, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Nice work on the Eberron article; since you focused in part on the creatures, do you think anything could be (re)built out of Changeling, Shifter, Kalashtar, or possibly the best candidate Warforged? BOZ (talk) 02:23, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

I added back in Warforged & Kalashtar. Would you be able to update the redirects? Right now both are redirecting to Eberron#World. Thanks! Sariel Xilo (talk) 20:01, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
OK cool! I will try to split and restore those two in the near future and see where we can get with that. :) BOZ (talk) 21:12, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
I brought back Warforged, and I moved Kalashtar to draft space since it was merged due to AFD, but when it is well-sourced enough then it can be submitted to AFC for review. :) BOZ (talk) 19:49, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

February 2021

Hey BOZ! I just closed the merge discussion for Weave (Forgotten Realms), copied over all relevant info to either Mystra (Forgotten Realms)#Weave or Magic in Dungeons & Dragons#Forgotten Realms and updated the templates. I'm less confident in getting the redirects correct to keep page history. Do you have time to help me with this? Thanks! Sariel Xilo (talk) 20:00, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

No problem - page history is preserved. :) BOZ (talk) 20:49, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
There isn't much left in Category:Forgotten Realms deities anymore, just Bahamut (Dungeons & Dragons), Corellon Larethian, Eilistraee, Moradin, Mystra (Forgotten Realms), and Tiamat (Dungeons & Dragons). Of those, you worked on Mystra today and Tiamat previously, but if you see any sources for the others that would help them survive future deletion attempts. BOZ (talk) 21:57, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Took a stab at Bahamut but didn't have much luck. I could only see snippets of the two sources I found so I limited where I used them. There might be more there to use in a reception section if copies can be tracked down. Also put strikethrough text in to remind myself later. :) Sariel Xilo (talk) 21:04, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

March 2021

I restored Catti-brie since she appeared in a couple of novels reviewed in that io9 column, and will be one of the main characters in an upcoming video game so she may get additional attention in sources. :) I would do the same with Bruenor, but he was redirected after AFD so I will not mess with him yet. BOZ (talk) 20:59, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Also, someone else restored Kenku. :) BOZ (talk) 19:31, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
BOZ just finished up Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. I plan on starting Draft:Candlekeep Mysteries today but I don't expect that to be a similar done in a day article. If you could do a quick skim of Frostmaiden for typos, that would be awesome. Thanks! Sariel Xilo (talk) 22:40, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
Sounds good. :) I had made a list of 5E books that I had wanted to make articles for, but I left it at my office... and there it has sat until I can finally get back in next week to pick it up. ;) I couldn't tell you anymore what books are on it, but we will see! BOZ (talk) 23:07, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
I just took a look at what was redlinked in List of Dungeons & Dragons rulebooks#Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition. I might also make Draft:Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft but hold off on moving it to mainspace until closer to the release date since sometimes editors get persnickety if you publish too soon. Sariel Xilo (talk) 23:15, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Hey, Sariel, I thought I'd take you up on your offer for requests. I have a draft page about a webcomic named ZooPhobia in one of my sandboxes. If you could look at it, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. Historyday01 (talk) 20:46, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

April 2021

Good work on the Scott Fischer article - do you see anything for Draft:Scott Fitzgerald Gray so that we can get it moved back to article space? BOZ (talk) 20:46, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

OK, like I mentioned last week... over a year ago when I was at my FLGS playing RPGs with my friends (wow, what a weird statement), in a moment of distraction I decided to make a list of all the 5E books on the shelf. There were 10 of them on my list, 5 of which had articles at that time. I left it on my desk in my office thinking I would be back to it before long (wow, how naive I was) and we could then start articles on the remaining books. Well, in that time you did start articles for 4 out of those 5! The only remaining one was Acquisitions Incorporated, and I am not sure if you wanted to work on that one or not, but if you wanted to skip it that would be OK. :) BOZ (talk) 19:07, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

Good work on Robin Wood. :) Do you see anything for David O. Miller? BOZ (talk) 21:13, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

May 2021

Hey BOZ - sorry I couldn't find anything on Miller. When you get a chance, could you do a quick one over on Draft:Critical Role: Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting? I think the coverage is enough (although not as strong as most of the 5E books I've worked on) but I wanted a second opinion before I moved it into mainspace. In terms of other drafts, I think Draft:Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft will be ready to go as soon as reviews drop which should be in the next 2 weeks. Sariel Xilo (talk) 19:42, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

No worries - I am currently working on Draft:Richard Halliwell (game designer) and Draft:Kim Eastland as they have passed away. I will do a quick copyedit on your drafts. BOZ (talk) 19:52, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks! I'll take a look to see what I can find source wise. Sariel Xilo (talk) 20:04, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Good update on those Ravenloft domains; did you see anything for anyone on the List of Ravenloft characters aside from Strahd himself? BOZ (talk) 14:58, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

I'll take a look. Do you have access to any of the 2nd edition books which describe the Vistani (like the Van Richten's Guide To The Vistani)? I'm looking for a primary source that describes their control of the mists and how they help players navigate. I think primary sources are fine in the "fictional setting" bit of Ravenloft because that's essentially a plot summary. Thoughts? Sariel Xilo (talk) 19:37, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
I'm sure I do have a few, although I will not have access to them for at least a few days. I split Vistani back out using the material you added to Ravenloft; it was a bit overdetailed for that article anyway, but if I took too much feel free to put some back in. BOZ (talk) 19:44, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

I just found out this week that Martin McKenna died last year, although his article only claims that he died sometime in September. I don't know if there is a RS to verify what his actual death date is. BOZ (talk) 01:50, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Not sure what the best practice is for that. Maybe Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography would have an idea on how to tackle it. I also think I've taken the Ravenloft character list as far as I can. Parts of it need a trim (Azalin) & large parts need sources (even if it is just citing primary). But I also don't have it in me to figure out which Darklord has appeared in which 2E/3E supplement to source the lore properly. Sariel Xilo (talk) 21:57, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
You've done rather well so far on the list, so that is great. Later this evening I hope to find the time to see who first appeared in "Realm of Terror" and who appeared elsewhere. BOZ (talk) 22:13, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Source #19 on List of Ravenloft characters appears to go to an article about Game of Thrones instead; I tried to find the right link but did not see it so far. BOZ (talk) 18:43, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
Weird. I only re-found it by using the website's search engine: https://www.tomshw.it/culturapop/dottor-van-ritchen-curiosita/ . Just saved it in the web archive. Sariel Xilo (talk) 18:48, 18 May 2021 (UTC)

How are your translation skills? Daranios found a Spanish source which may be useful for List of Ravenloft characters, Darklord (Ravenloft), and possibly Ravenloft domains and other pieces: [1] :) BOZ (talk) 15:27, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

Not great if I can't copy and paste it into google translate. I tend to make too many typos when hand copying; it's something I have to be super careful with when pulling quotes from google books. Sariel Xilo (talk) 16:27, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
Hey BOZ - this CBR article would probably be a useful source for Ravenloft domains. Sariel Xilo (talk) 15:24, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
Don't have time right now to look at these in depth but here are a few new articles that could probably be used as sources in Illithid: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Sariel Xilo (talk) 00:27, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

June 2021

Another monster, Yuan-ti, got deleted at AFD, but there might just be enough sources to rescue it so I moved it to draft space; do you see anything else that could be of help? BOZ (talk) 10:10, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

It's an ambitious project that I've barely started and it's already huge, but if you spot anything that stands out as potentially salvageable at User:BOZ/Games deletions, just let me know and I will draft it. :) BOZ (talk) 12:17, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
Hey BOZ! If I see anything, I'll flag it for you. Sariel Xilo (talk) 21:27, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
Sounds good. Some work was put into Yuan-ti, so hopefully that one will pass AFC. I also moved Bruenor Battlehammer to draft space in hopes of bringing that one back since he is one of the four PCs in a brand-new video game; Catti-brie is one of the others, and could use anything you could find as well. :) BOZ (talk) 14:14, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

July 2021

Do you see anything that can help with The Gamers: Hands of Fate (or the other films in the series)? BOZ (talk) 17:53, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

Just took a look and the only sources I could find were already added to the reception section. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful! Sariel Xilo (talk) 19:38, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks to those additions, I'd say this one is safe - the next person to vote went Keep based on them, and two Deleters switched to Keep. :) BOZ (talk) 19:43, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

September 2021

I noticed you tried to salvage Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. As you noted at [[User talk:Phlounder#Copyright concerns with Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms]], there are copyright concerns, given that the MTG Wiki is licenced as CC BY-NC-SA 2.5, not the more liberal CC-BY-SA-3.0 used sitewide at fandom.com, so it is incompatible with Wikipedia. I've left this message on the chance that you may want to salvage what you can, or rewrite the original while retaining some of your subsequent changes. Mindmatrix 15:55, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

@Mindmatrix: Thanks for doubling checking the Fandom license! I've never attempted to salvage something like this. The Reception section I created from scratch and I think I've cleaned up the Set details section enough to have something to start with. I do have a question about "Simply modifying copyrighted text is not sufficient to avoid copyright infringement" - I determined that the original MTG Wiki was violating copyright so I added quotation marks and sourced that bit. Is it still a copyright violation to keep that sentence? I had also attributed bits from Forgotten Realms & Faerûn because I'm fairly sure the background on the setting was copied from there to MTG Wiki. Sariel Xilo (talk) 16:15, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
The problem with MTG Wiki is that it's a fansite, so it wouldn't qualify as a reliable source. You're better off rephrasing, using the sources cited at MTG Wiki as a basis for your work. I rarely deal with copyright issues on WP; you may want to check Wikipedia:Copyright problems#Rewriting content and Wikipedia:Copyright problems/Advice for admins, the latter of which lists the process admins use to review an article tagged as copyvio. You may also consider submitting questions at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, as you'll likely get better answers than I could provide. I hope this helps! Mindmatrix 16:40, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
Note also that I've added a message at Talk:Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms to indicate you are attempting a rewrite. Mindmatrix 16:40, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
Right that MTG Wiki isn't reliable - I meant I determined that the MTG Wiki had copied & pasted a sentence from a reliable source without quotation marks that I then attributed here. I'll follow up at the copyright questions project. Thanks for the resources! Sariel Xilo (talk) 16:52, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi Sariel Xilo, hope you are well. I notice that you are fairly active on topics for the Critical Role/Darrington Press' topic area. I am just wondering if an article for their first published game Uk'otoa is on your to-do list for the near future? Haleth (talk) 14:44, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

@Haleth: Not at the moment because I don't think every Critical Role product needs its own article. I did drop one review of the game here: Critical Role–related products#Darrington Press. If you're interested in that vein, I would suggest instead creating an article on the imprint Darrington Press which would include the games it publishes (like Uk'otoa). When I created Critical Role–related products, I didn't think Darrington Press had enough sources for a standalone article but that might have changed since. Sariel Xilo (talk) 16:05, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for finding something for Catti-brie; if you spot anything for my Bruenor draft go ahead and add it. :) BOZ (talk) 16:59, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

October 2021

Do you see anything useful for Player's Guide to Eberron? BOZ (talk) 12:38, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

Unfortunately, its DMs Guild entry doesn't have a product history. For the 4E one, Shannon Appelcline wrote "A player's book and a GM's book had already been published for Eberron in its previous incarnation: Player's Guide to Eberron (2006) and Eberron Campaign Setting (2004) for 3.5e. However the designers of 4e Eberron were adamant that the new 4e books were not just translations. The previous books had included a fair amount of duplication because they weren't planned as a coherent set. The new books were, which allowed the designers to create a complementary pair of releases, with the player's book including material intended for the player or both the GM and player". (1) There's a RPG Net review but I don't think that meets RS. Per RPGGeek, there's a print review in The Geek Gazette (Issue 5 - Feb 2007) so that might help if you can track it down. It might be best to merge this article into Eberron Campaign Setting in the meantime. Sariel Xilo (talk) 17:54, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

@BOZ: Would you take a look at my explanation over at File talk:Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, 2020 alternate print cover.png? It got tagged with not meeting Criterion 10c & I want to see if my explanation meets that. If so, I can write up a cleaner version and add it to the image. Thanks! Sariel Xilo (talk) 17:58, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

I'm not too knowledgeable about the rules for image uses, what is the issue in this case? BOZ (talk) 20:29, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
Not sure what happened there. I asked for clarification from the nominator, made changes and then another editor went ahead and deleted it anyway. No idea if they reviewed it or not. Sariel Xilo (talk) 03:46, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Do you see anything for Miguel Coimbra?

I can take a look. Would you review some of the recent edits on Dungeons & Dragons campaign settings? An editor is doing what I think is a bunch of OR which may or may not be correct. Thanks! Sariel Xilo (talk) 03:46, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
In this series of edits, it looks like a bunch of new quasi-campaign settings were added, although I agree that they may be WP:OR constructions rather than legitimate D&D campaign settings. BOZ (talk) 04:33, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
With Coimbra, I found a few sources to back up games he's illustrated but nothing in depth on his art. I have a feeling that there are probably more sources out there but not in English. Sariel Xilo (talk) 04:03, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

November 2021

If you have a general interest in actual play, the article DC Universe All Star Games was moved to draft and ultimately abandoned, but another user found some sources in an attempt to rebuild it. The draft has been at AFC for a while, in case you have anything else to help it pass. I have listed a number of other deleted podcast and actual play articles at Talk:Actual play, if you see anything there that could be rescued. BOZ (talk) 13:23, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

I was mostly motivated to get a non-D&D show onto the actual play list. There's not a lot of great coverage on genre in general but I can take a look. Sariel Xilo (talk) 16:32, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

Advanced d20 Magic was PRODded - I added links to both RPGnet and RPGGeek for more info but neither of them listed any reviews. BOZ (talk) 13:03, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

I'm waiting on my laptop to be repaired so I'm limited to mobile edits right now. I'll take a look for sources & drop them here if I find them. Sariel Xilo (talk) 17:31, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

@BOZ: Not sure if this will be useful for you but I think you were collecting sources on the various D&D novels. This one is on the HeartQuest series: https://www.tor.com/2021/11/18/roll-for-romance-the-forgotten-dd-romance-novels-of-1983/ Sariel Xilo (talk) 17:13, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

OK thanks, I will take a look. :) BOZ (talk) 18:25, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

It might be a bit of a stretch, but do you see any additional sources for Draft:Phoenix (wargaming magazine)? BOZ (talk) 05:55, 28 November 2021 (UTC)

We got that one greatly improved and published.:) BOZ (talk) 14:15, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

December 2021

Do you see anything for Grind (board game)? BOZ (talk) 14:15, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

Do you see anything to help Draft:City of Mist get through AFC? BOZ (talk) 13:17, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

Done Between the 3 ENnie Awards & the additional industry reviews it should meet WP:BOOKCRIT. I mean it technically met that before I edited the article but it did need a bit of clean up. Is there a specific reason to leave the draft in AfC? I would be totally willing to move it into mainspace at this point. I've pretty much stopped using AfC between the backlog and the fact that the process doesn't seem to help prevent future AfD challenges. I think the main bit that needs work is the Books and supplements section but that should just be adding ISBNs and primary sources. Sariel Xilo (talk) 18:58, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
Awesome, sir, thank you kindly. :) I don't believe there is any specific reason why it could not be moved to article space without using the AFC process. User:McDaire created the original version as a draft in 2019, but it was declined at AFC and the draft was eventually deleted. User:Zahonzik created a second draft a couple of months ago and it was declined the same day it was created; I copied some of the sources there from the prior draft and it was worked on some more and resubmitted to AFD. But if you are confident then I have no objection to just publishing it. :) BOZ (talk) 19:29, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
And done Did a few finishing touches and moved it into mainspace if you want to do a copy-edit. I also left a note addressing the AfC history. Sariel Xilo (talk) 22:00, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

@BOZ: What is the best way to move this out of drafts? While I've edited a bunch of templates, I've never made one from scratch. I think PbtA has enough games at this point to use a navbar. Thanks! Sariel Xilo (talk) 22:57, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

I'm not clear on what you're trying to do, I don't know if you can even put a template in draft space to be honest. BOZ (talk) 23:05, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
OK, I took another look and saw the template way at the bottom, LOL. :) OK, yeah, that one looks fine. There are lots of other little navbars like that for other RPGs so I don't see why you can't just copy and paste that into a new page. BOZ (talk) 23:44, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

I probably mentioned to you before that I have been compiling an enormous list of deleted and redirected tabletop games articles. It is truly epic, but by carving out more specific sets of articles it could be manageable; I have gotten help getting one or two restored here and there, and even done a few on my own. I think you are probably most comfortable with RPGs published in the 2010s because you have a skill at finding reviews published online. Would you like to take a look at this list below and see if there is anything with potential to be restored/rebuilt?:

Of course, I can restore anything that has been deleted, so if you see anything here worth working on let me know! BOZ (talk) 17:02, 31 December 2021 (UTC)

Jester and the Traveller

If you are going to argue that Jester's relationship with the Traveller is "temporarily strained", then I think you have to take the time to consider what their relationship actually is. I'm going to post this here because it might be lengthy and could verge into WP:OR.

Consider the following: Jester's mother is an agoraphobe, and from what little we know of her childhood, she did not appear to have much interaction with other children. This is important because she regularly displays inappropriate social behaviours—like when she asks Essek if he is on the toilet—which she should have learned by childhood (the party do not even know how old she is to begin with). Jester also displays a lack of judgement or the ability to forsee the consequences of her actions, such as when the party are trying to infiltrate the Tumblecarve manor and she gets distracted by pastries; or when Obann turns Yasha and her immediate response is to rush back into the mountain and Fjord has to practically restrain her because going back in will get them all killed. All of these are things that she should have learned during childhood.

Because she is in this perpetually child-like state, Jester is vulnerable to manipulation by others, and this is what makes her relationship with the Traveller disturbing. She is completely dependent on him, and while part of this is because he is the source of her power, most of her decisions are guided by appeasing him. Early in the campaign she makes pamphlets about him, but when asked why people might worship him, she cannot answer beyond "because he's so cool, you guys". Despite being sent to spread word of the Traveller, most of her interactions with other believers—like the gnoll in Xhorhas and Cecelia—are adversarial, whereby she needs to prove her devotion to him for fear that he will favour someone else.

Finally we get to the revelation that he is not a god. While Jester does show stress at this news, she never questions the state of the relationship. Rather, she stresses over how she can best fix his problems. Even the suggestion that they kill the other followers is considered and the other party members are visibly disturbed by this. Jester never makes any actual decisions about her relationship with the Traveller; it is Fjord and Beau who are most proactive. Even though they get to the point where Jester is powerful enough to kill the Traveller, it is the rest of the party who threaten him into backing down. Jester was totally prepared to suffer the Traveller's punishment if it meant being with him and it took the Traveller breaking character to save her (although kicking her away was an inherently selfish act because it was meant to save him).

Now I know that other characters have unhealthy relationships with others—case in point, Fjord and Uk'otoa or Beau and her father—but they show the self-awareness to recognise this and work on it. In 124 episodes, Jester has grown in power, but she has not grown emotionally. Her relationship with the Traveller is full of red flags that point to manipulation and psychological abuse, so I don't think their relationship is "temporarily strained" at all; her stress upon learning he is not a god is driven by her fear that she cannot appease him and will lose her power. For his part, the Traveller never acknowledges the position that he puts her in except to ask for her help. 1.129.108.69 (talk) 08:45, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

I would prefer to keep this discussion on the talk page of the article. I disagree with your view & I just responded there: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Critical_Role_(campaign_two)&oldid=1005918420 Sariel Xilo (talk) 02:27, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for your edits on the List of fictional asexual characters page (and comments on the talk page)

I was getting really exhausted with it this morning and doing my best to restrain my comments, which is hard when you feel passionate about something. But, on the bright side, at least there is a more developed guideline for sources to be used on the page... So, I suppose that is a positive to come out of the removals, reversions, and whatnot. So thanks for joining in the discussion. Your comments were a big help. --Historyday01 (talk) 17:28, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

@Historyday01: I think the next step to codify the selection guidelines should be a WP:RFC since right now it's just 3 editors who are struggling to find consensus. This way you can tag multiple projects (Wikipedia:WikiProject LGBT studies, Wikipedia:WikiProject Lists, Wikipedia:WikiProject Fictional characters, etc) & hopefully the discussion hits more watchlists because I assume the number of editors watching this specific list is probably small. Also, we want to avoid canvassing & page ownership accusations. On that note, I would suggest in the future that you start a discussion on the article's talk page when having a content disagreement and then notify the specific editors on their user talk pages rather than starting segmented conversations on several different user talk pages. Sariel Xilo (talk) 18:29, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
Also, if you have an article/draft that you're struggling to source, you can always leave me a note in the above section User talk:Sariel Xilo#If you are taking requests (2021) under the appropriate month. No guarantees that I'll have time to help but one of the things I spend my Wiki time on is improving sources before an article hits AfD. Sariel Xilo (talk) 18:32, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
That's good to keep in mind. I'll definitely leave you a note if I have an article or draft I'm struggling to source, for sure, thanks for the offer. I have a bunch of drafts of pages in a bunch of sandboxes right now, so I might share some of those with you. As an added comment, thinking of it now, I'm a bit afraid of the guidelines becoming codified in that it could imperil a lot of entries I have on various pages, which don't have secondary sources but have primary sources. And even with the above-mentioned list, I'm struggling as it is to find additional sources, and I remember having a hard time finding the sources I could find. The only section, so far, that fully complies with the 2 links (one primary and one secondary) proposed guideline is the Animation and anime section... The problem I could see, theoretically, are cases where the creators say "yeah this character is pan" (like with OK KO) or something like that, then that NEVER gets mentioned in the show, at least not directly. I almost think it would a better rule to follow is to let editors use their best judgment. Anyway, if we use WP:PSTS, it says "Wikipedia articles should be based on reliable, published secondary sources and, to a lesser extent, on tertiary sources and primary sources," so I don't think we, always, need, primary sources... if a secondary source (like a review on Tor.com) says it, falling under what is explained on WP:P&P, and definitely fulfills what is outlined on WP:SOURCE, that's good enough for me. Even tweets themselves are acceptable in specific instances, per WP:Twitter-EL, which says "a specific tweet may be useful as a self-published, primary source" and self-published sources are fine as long as "the article is not based primarily on such sources," per WP:TWEET. 07/2021

Here's a miscellaneous message: please see Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Projects, and rethink your warning on User talk:Ferien. Thanks. Drmies (talk) 16:51, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

@Drmies: I'm not familiar with WP:LTA/GRP and from reading it, I'm not sure how you identify an IP editor is that banned user (but the ban on sight makes sense). Is the assumption that once an editor adds that flag to an edit summary, that all IP accounts after that for a short period time fall under that? I only did a brief skim of the back and forth on mobile this morning, so I missed the link to LTA/GRP. Without that flag, it just looks like an overly aggressive IP account challenging unsourced content (which is why I was going to Wikipedia:Requests for page protection next to request both protection & RevDel). My other follow up question, is https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Steward_requests/Global where I report an account emailing me about this? LTA/GRP just says "report the account sending the email to stewards". Sariel Xilo (talk) 17:38, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
I'm not saying you should have made that identification, but it seems clear from this and other edit summaries that Ferien had made that identification. You warned Ferien hours later, and a couple of reverts later, and the warning was for edit warring--so I assume you looked at the history of the article and perused the edit summaries, because that is the proper thing to do. If you can't do that from a mobile--well, that's, eh, not great. So rather than slap a templated warning for edit warring on their page, you could have asked what was going on. Ferien has been here for a while (you can see that from a mobile), and we should assume they know what they're doing. BTW "IP account"--there really is no such thing, and there were four or five different IPs by the time you got to it, so IP-hopping vandalism is really more likely than an established editor edit warring, even without seeing the edit summaries (and I can see those summaries on my phone). As for reporting, they emailed you? Yes, report it to the stewards. I'm not a steward, BTW, but you're welcome to email me and send me the email, if it came from an account--I can do certain things with an account name. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 21:33, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

Sam Riegel and Taliesin Jaffe Birthday Source

actually twitter is not an unreliable source to be honest because sam riegel's birth date information is not wrong. because it is a reliable source. If it were unreliable, it would be false information. but unfortunately this information seems correct. There is no wrong information in this. sam riegel's brandy is right and there is nothing wrong with that. Taliesin Jaffe information source effort is right, not wrong.

Taliesin Jaffe information is correct.: https://twitter.com/critrolenews/status/1351544076949102594

Sam Riegel information is correct.: https://twitter.com/critrolenews/status/1314677839396892672

I'm not sure this information is false information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.182.155.131 (talk) 14:15, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

I'm not the editor who reverted you and while there are cases where you can cite primary sources on facts, that also depends on reliability. An un-verified fan account on Twitter (as you've linked above) is not a reliable source. You should review the following guidance on primary sources: WP:RS/SPS & WP:TWEET. If you have any questions, I would suggest heading over to Wikipedia:Teahouse. It is a great resource for new editors so if you have any questions on the sources you've found, the Teahouse is a good sounding board if you're not sure your sources are reliable.
