GOCE copy-edit review[edit]

Hi Satkara, as you requested, I've reviewed your copy-edit of the article Thai Pongal; the review is available here. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 00:15, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your copyeding there. For info, the article is a former FA candidate and the nomination features some objections and advice :) --Earthh (talk) 21:43, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Earthh: I took a look at it! I'll go back over the article to make some more prose edits. The most confusing sentence for me was ""City of Angels" was first performed at special concerts, dubbed as Church of Mars, in May 2013, shortly before the release of the album." It mentions multiple concerts, but calls it the singular "Church of Mars". Should it be "Churches of Mars", or was it a tour, or was it something else? karatalk 19:08, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It was a series of intimate concerts dubbed "Church of Mars".--Earthh (talk) 20:32, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've nominated (again) the article for the FA status. If you want to leave a comment, your help would be very much appreciated :) --Earthh (talk) 18:21, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

November 2014[edit]

Information icon Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit of yours to the page Thai Pongal has an edit summary that appears to be inaccurate or inappropriate. Please use edit summaries that accurately tell other editors what you did, and feel free to use the sandbox for any tests you may want to do. "Malaria is a one-day celebration" isn't helpful and appeared to be spam until I analysed the diff; please use more helpful edit summaries as your edit appears to be constructive. Ogress smash! 20:17, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Ogress, I meant to type "Makara is a one day celebration" because the text I was fixing described Makara as both the festival "Thai Pongal" and the one day celebration "Pongal", when it should really have been just the one day celebration. Unfortunately I was editing on an iPad and hit "submit" before seeing that I had been autocorrected to "Malaria". I was hoping no one would notice that particular unfortunate summary :/ Hope that explains it! karatalk 20:28, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Satkara:, Okay, I was just checking and you did a few edits I had questions on. (Happens to me more often than I'd like.) Is there a reason you changed Tibetan Empire > Tibet on Emperor Taizong's campaign against Tufan? The Empire was a discrete and specific thing in Tibetan history and quite notable and I added a cite demonstrating it was a political entity with embassies in the Chinese capital starting in the Sui, if that helps? Feel free to reply on the Talk page of that article if you wish to discuss it or any other changes as that's the best place for it.
Speaking of which, you can flag people's attention so you don't have to repeat your replies by using the template {{yo}} - just write the user's name after a | or "pipe". You can even flag multiple people as, for example, {{yo|Ogress|Satkara}}. If you want a shortcut to just linking their user name, use {{u}} the same way, e.g. {{u|satkara}}. So you can go to Talk:Taizong BlahBlahBlah Tufan and make a new section and if you want to include me, just use {{yo|ogress}} when you are trying to talk to me. Ogress smash! 20:38, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Ogress: Thanks for telling me about the template! But I don't know what you are talking about, to my knowledge I've never edited a page on anything related to Tibet. I looked at the Tufan page history and I'm not on there—maybe you meant to talk to someone else? karatalk 20:57, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Satkara: I did indeed, I'm so sorry, I'm very sleepy and caffeine is kicking in slowly. Apologies. Ogress smash! 21:05, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Ogress: No problem! karatalk 23:37, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE requests tagging[edit]

Hi. I accepted Madhukar Dattatraya Deoras for copyediting because it was the oldest unclaimed article on the GOCE requests page, but when I checked its history (to see if really was stable :-)) I noticed that you had already begun copyediting it. When you start copyediting a request article, please use the {{Working}} tag under the request. Thanks for your help and all the best, Miniapolis 18:29, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that, Miniapolis! I wasn't confident about completing the article when I saw it, but decided to edit it a little anyway; when I realized I would be fine, I finished it within 30 minutes and didn't think anyone would claim it in that time! :) karatalk 18:52, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Copyedit looks okay and you tagged it as {{Done}}, so I'll archive it. However, there were some inconsistencies in the dates; Indian articles generally use day-month-year format, and I fixed the lead and the infobox. Frankly, though, a GAN copyedit should take more than half an hour; the prose bar is higher for GANs than it is for backlog articles and non-review (non-FAC, GAN or A-Class) request articles. It's best to gain copyediting experience with backlog articles and request articles not awaiting a review, and you really have to do the others with a fine-tooth comb; the nominator is counting on you. All the best, Miniapolis 21:07, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Forgot to mention using the {{GOCE}} tag on the request article's talk page (I did this one); it helps at review time. Miniapolis 21:10, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Magadheera[edit]

Hi. i observed your copy edit in the plot section of Magadheera. First of all, thank you for your contribution. But we cant afford more than 700 words for a film's plot in ideal conditions as per WP:FILMPLOT. Moreover, a clarify tag was placed which if clarified would make the narrative complex. The note also specifies that the plot summary does not follow the film's screenplay exactly. So, to ensures prevention of complications and summary within limits of WP:FILMPLOT, i reverted your edit. Please don't mind otherwise. Thank you. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 03:26, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Pavanjandhyala, thanks for letting me know! I think you may have miscounted—my edit (without counting the "clarification needed" tags) actually did not change the word count at all, although it did fix some grammar issues. Of the clarification tags, the first could be fixed by removing "standing there" (which raises questions about where "there" is), and the second simply needs to replace "he" with a name (it is not clear from the sentence if Indu hates Harsha or Rughuveer). Were there any further issues with my edit, or should I continue? karatalk 03:48, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. You may continue. Replace the name if you watched the film. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 03:54, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Pavanjandhyala: Thank you! Unfortunately I have not watched the film and do not know who Indu hates, which is why I added the tag instead. Have you? If so, will you replace the name? Thanks, karatalk 03:56, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I replaced the name as per your suggestion for which i would love to thank you. Well, one question. Can we expect the requests at GOCE of November 2014 be replied soon, as i nominated this film's article for a GA. Please do reply. Thank you, Pavanjandhyala (talk) 17:54, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Pavanjandhyala: I made the edits while initially looking over the article, but have not personally claimed the article on the request page. This means that it is currently open for any editor to accept and copy-edit, but I do not know when that will be because copy-editors work both chronologically and by interest. I expect the edit to get done within a month, and might look over it again myself after I finish the article I am working on. karatalk 18:15, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for your help. Almost all the concerns were met and explanation regarding the adjustment in the plot is written in the Talk page. Hope you go through it. On suggestion of Ssven2, i submitted a GAN. Rectify if i was wrong anywhere in my work regarding addressing your concerns and nominating it, as i see you kept it on hold at GOCE. Thank you, Pavanjandhyala (talk) 15:14, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Thank you for doing the copy-edit on Dennis Rader. Could you please add the GOCE tag on the articles talk page. Thanks.--BabbaQ (talk) 14:58, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Let me know if there any issues with my edit! karatalk 16:21, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

GoCE edit[edit]

Hi Satkara, I noticed you just made this edit to GamersGate which I gather from your edit history is connected to the GoCE request I'd made a few weeks ago. First of all thank you very much! Secondly I have never gone through a GoCE cleanup before and I am wondering what would be best for me to do. I'm tempted to jump in and start addressing tags such as the "clarify" tag you placed just now, but perhaps it would be better to wait until you have finished. Please let me know what you would prefer and thanks again! -Thibbs (talk) 17:18, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @Thibbs:! I made the edits while glancing over the article before accepting it, but have not yet claimed it off the request page. I may claim it later, or another editor may do so instead. Please feel free to edit whatever you like, as you like! If a major edit is going on, you'll probably see the {{in use}} template. Let me know if there are any issues with my edits. Thanks, karatalk 19:05, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK sounds good. -Thibbs (talk) 04:20, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oops. I just noticed this edit and your copy-edits. The ping never came through. An admin explained it to me when I tried to do the same thing actually. Apparently it doesn't ping the person unless you create the pinging template simultaneously with signing the post. So if you edit a post you already signed to ping someone then it doesn't work. Kind of counter-intuitive if you ask me. Anyway thanks for the edits! I'll take a look at them when I get a bit more free time tonight. -Thibbs (talk) 19:12, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Thibbs: Interesting, I had no idea! Thanks for letting me know :) karatalk 02:45, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

R U Professional - featured article candidate[edit]

Notifying you, as you were the copy editor for the article:

I've nominated the article about the song "R U Professional" for Featured Article consideration.

It's a satirical song and a form of parody music using sampling.

Comments would be appreciated, at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/R U Professional/archive1.

Thank you for your time,

Ways to improve Grapevine Red Blotch disease[edit]

Hi, I'm Elmidae. Satkara, thanks for creating Grapevine Red Blotch disease!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Nice job! :) - Please note that it is generally not recommended to use "naked URLs" as references, because the reference gives no indication to the reader about its location and content. Using the citation template is better. I have tagged the article for cleanup, and likely someone will be along shortly and sort those out; please do go over the result once more and polish them up. Cheers! --

Also, please add some categories!

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.
