Comparison with current version, and some proposals[edit]

I added a third column above with some changes that I would suggest. — Sebastian 18:16, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I readded the section "Workers' rights", because these are covered in the UDHR (Article 23). I also readded "Minority languages" because I believe at least its text should be somewhere under Ethnic rights. — Sebastian 18:37, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your suggestions are fine overall. My general problem with the page is the fact that it is very long. A solution could be to have certain sections presented in detail on separate pages, some of which exist already. However, most of the existing ones would need a thorough editing. Examples are Human rights of Kurdish people in Turkey and Freedom of religion in Turkey. For the latter I drafted a new version under User:Sc.helm/Freedom of religion in Turkey, but find it hard to do that on all possible subjects ("Torture in Turkey" could become a separate page for instance).
The passage on "Minority languages" mainly concerns the Kurdish languages and as such is mentioned in a different form on Human rights of Kurdish people in Turkey. The section is incomplete on the current page Human rights in Turkey. "Workers' right" could be part of a page on "Trade Unions in Turkey" (a category but no such page exists). The page on Economy of Turkey has no such section either. In short, I agree on inclusion, even though this makes the article longer again.
To my mind, "torture" should remain a separate issue and no subsection of "treatment of prisoners" (the ban of torture is a specific provision in international conventions). The deaths in prisons can be moved to the "deaths in custody" section. "Hate crimes" are not only related to "ethnic rights" and should be a subsection of "discrimination". The move of the judgments of the ECtHR is ok. Thanks again. Let's see for how long you remain the only one spending visible thoughts on the subject. Sc.helm (talk) 10:20, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
